Hitman: Absolution Difficulty Modes Revealed (Is the sky falling?)

There is a new preview on CVG, I'm a bit worried about the game after reading that.

Basically they say it's not as open as previous Hitman games but it's not linear either. Ugh just like that I lose most of my faith in them.

Glad this game went from being a trainwreck to sounding pretty decent.

If I get it I'll try either Enhanced Medium or Pro: Hard. Not sure yet but I don't like a frustrating experience. I guess it depends on how well done the A.I is, whether its COD cheap or actual AI.

preordered it from GMG with the 25% off coupon, biggest PC game in November IMO (over both COD BLOPS 2 and Assassin's Creed III)

Can you be a gent and post some quotes from the preview please. Thank you.

If it wasn't for GMG knocking it down to the low $30 range then I'd have to pass until a big steam sale. Where there's smoke there's fire usually.

I would agree if it still appeared to be a PC focused game, which it doesn't.

I'm expecting the game to be good but, kinda like Human Revolution, suffer from compartmentalisation. Like, lots of good Hitmany style puzzle solving and stealth, but compartmentalised into rooms and checkpoints, instead of the grander sandbox scope that past Hitman levels generally played out like.

And that will be kinda sucky, but with expectations in check it should be fun.

I think if you hate instinct as much as me and others do, like borderline offended by it, then there won't be any temptation to use it. That being said I would prefer to have an option to knock it off completely other than play a blisteringly difficult mode on the 1st try since accidentally hitting the button is always a concern.

omg I accidentally hit a button, help me guize!!1! I'm so ashamed V_V

The decision between Hard and Purist for me comes down to weather the game is janky enough that I feel the need to use user-set checkpoints

Clarification ; set checkpoints are set through a level. Up to hard, user must go to checkpoint and activate it if they want to restart there on failure. On Expert and Purist, there is no such thing, and user will have to restart the whole level.

It is not a Start Menu -- Create Checkpoint thing.

I'm not expecting this at all. I hope I'm right. I'm under the idea that it'll be some relatively large levels/places that we haven't been shown or have just been hinted at.

I still don't understand why so many people don't want to use instinct at all when it is literally what the map always was before, but I'm glad they have a purist mode either way.

I'll probably start on Hard or Expert first.

What first-person view?

Instinct has no relevance on your score.

There are some gameplay functionalities that for you purists that want to take purist because of no-instinct...well, I cannot see not using it on purist.

Blood Money had a first person view. I can't remember if the others did as well.

I'm hyped, but I'm also nervous as hell for Absolution, considering
Eidos and Square-Enix have been working on a sequel to Absolution since November of last year. I fear Absolution will end on a Contracts-level cliffhanger, or we'll be waiting a while for more target hunting, as it reportedly is a next-gen title, developed by Eidos Montreal.

I think I'll give Normal run a try, and I hope I can disable the map and Instinct filters.

Your penalty for using the map was taking you out of the action, while at the same time not pausing the game. You had to stare at the map and memorize where everything was and account for the fact that people were still moving and wouldn't necessarily stay where they were when you looked. Or you could keep looking at the map every few seconds and waiting for it to load and bring you back. Not the most fun thing in the world to do.

Now you just press a button and everything is given to you with no penalty at all. Do not want.

Then do not use. Simple as that. Though you've already stated you'll be going at the hardest mode, yeah?

Purist sounds great. Nice of them to include a mode without instinct nonsense.

Honestly, this is exactly what I'm expecting as well. How would you even have checkpoints if it was a giant sandbox?

What no very easy?
I dont even want to have to try, let that shit autoplay.

But seriously this is what we need to see more of in games, and it's not like its that hard to implement. Especially the no hints no cross hair stuff.

Gone and replaced by Instinct was the last I heard of it.

Damn. That's the problem I have with Instinct mode. You can't just not use it like people here have recommended. Hitman games rely on being able to survey the environment, it's a vital mechanic.

Expert sounds about like what the other Hitman games were, outside of the Instinct. I can't remember Contracts or Blood Money having any checkpoints.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but I want to wait for reviews and GAF impressions first before I buy.

since we are posting previews here, I might as well post this:

http://www.stillatspawn.com/2012/10/08/hitman-absolution-preview/

Running on Glacier 2, Hitman: Absolution looks and feels awesome. A lot of the hassle of diving through menus has been taken away and instead streamlined in real-time in-game. Absolution also features a dynamic soundtrack, that changes depending on what the player is doing. When I went postal and decided to shoot anyone who looked at me cock-eyed, the music was thumping and intense. With David Bateson returning as the voice of Agent 47, the sound couldn’t be better.

I just hope that the Purist mode isn't some bullshit with cheating Ai and overly stupid bullet sponge enemies with crazy accuracy killing you in two shots

I am quite sure you can take less bullets in Absolution in order to take you down on harder difficulties. Previous Hitman games allowed one shotgun blast to take you down on their hardest settings.

Theoretically they could use "intelligent" checkpoints as - you killed the xth target and you are outside of any danger -> checkpoint.

I seriously hope that. If most missions really consist of checkpoint A -> checkpoint B -> checkpoint C traversal (== linear), I will be seriously disappointed. If it's just a few missions (like the white house mission in Hitman: Contracts), it's fine.
