Hitman - The Complete First Season Review Thread

It's an SP game. A good one. The disc version should contain all the season 1 content.

As for offline. You can't unlock stuff or use stuff you've unlocked, offline. And that's the sole reason that I'm not going to be buying this game. Won't support that kind of BS, regardless of how good the rest of the game is.

AH OK thanks, what a weird way to handle things. Doesn't sound like the sort of thing I could get behind to be honest. Shame as I'm hearing good things about this game.

I'm really glad this turned out well after the misstep that was Absolution (which was still a decent game, just not as Hitman as I would have liked).

As soon as the physical compilation comes out I'll be buying it - the only reason I don't have this yet is I don't want to download all the content due to Internet restrictions on my end.

I've been ready and waiting but it hasn't gone on sale beyond 10% yet :( If I'm not getting the exclusive timed missions I can hold out for 33% or more.

There is, and there will still be some timed missions you can get too. The sooner you get the game the more you will have access to.

If your internet dies, will you lose your progress? Do you need to always be online to play the game?

Someone else can confirm this, but it used to be that there was an off-line an online mode, and anything online would not transfer to off-line. Like two separate files essentially. I don't know if it's still that way, but I thought the addressed that and changed it in a patch.

They added a way to save progress and reconnect internet in a patch as well IIRC.

My review.
Its probably the best Hitman I have ever played. That would require some more contemplating on my part but this a a fantastic model for them and works well.

Been waiting to see how the game would do with all chapters out. Will definitely be picking this up sometime soon. Kind of torn between PC and PS4 Pro right now. Is it supposed to hit 60fps on PS4 Pro?

Early access done right. Worked super well to keep my interest for longer than almost any other single player experience.

Without their release strategy, I would've played it for a week or two and then stopped.

Better than Blood Money, atonement for Absolution.

It's my GOTY, beating Dark Souls 3 and I'm your typical Demon's Souls/Dark Souls/Bloodborne Miyazaki git gud elitist snob.

This has been a hell of a strong year for games, but Hitman still easily tops it for my GOTY. It's the true Blood Money successor we've always wanted, and even with a few minor missing gameplay elements I think it's still categorically the best in the series.

How does this compare to Blood Money?

A feature I liked of BM is how you could play the game as simple or complex as you wanted. And you could just mess around with janky AI and kill characters in silly ways and it was as serious or as ridiculous as you wanted the game to be.

Is it like that?

General agreement is that it's either on par with BM or better.

And yes to your second question.

Better than blood money.

Nah. I enjoyed my time with Hitman Pro (it's what the game is called in Nvidia Control Panel so I assume that was its original name) but it's no Blood Money or Silent Assassin. Maybe when they've got several seasons under it's belt I'll revise my answer but there's no way the current 6 levels hold a candle to the 13+ in the previous games. I also feel like there was a lot more variety in the types of missions previously. Also, you can't human shield in this one :\

Regardless, I'm looking forward to the next season. Elusives have probably been the highlight for me and the main reason I've been on board with the episodic model.

They are not 6 levels, they are 9 (with one still to come admiteddly). And all of those are more complex and diverse than any other in the series, easily.

The Icon and A House Built on Sand are variants, not new levels.
But I did forget to include the Tutorial levels.

That said, "complex and diverse" is not the issue I have with them - it's variety. All of the missions in Pro are sandboxes and I realize that its the direction the series has honed in on, but I still miss the more straightforward levels from Hitman 2 and Contracts like Tubeway Torpedo or Asylum Aftermath, etc.

Edit: I want to reiterate that it's inevitable that with the next season or two that it'll surpass BM. I just don't think it's accurate for it's current state.

This is GOTY for me, it is such a good game. Super responsive controls, amazing levels, fantastic visuals, 100+ hours of content and a clean polished user interface. I really enjoyed the Witness, but Hitman captured my attention more than any other game this year.

Hokkaido is much more "Blood money"-like.

Best Hitman game to date, worth every penny. And the way they put out the content really worked well for me, kept me entertained for a long time instead of playing through it over a weekend.

Gameplay was great, but I hated the forced online. Although the day they screwed over those paying more buying the episodes one by one by offering an exclusive episode, I stopped buying the game out of spite. I'm tempted to suck it up and just buy the rest.
FWIW I haven't had a disconnection since April, and my current internet is awful

I'll probably get it when I have some time to play.
But isn't there some timed content that late players have missed? Will there be a way to play it?

Super Bunny Hop [YouTube] with a great video review. He doesn't do scores, but it's a nice, in-depth review with his typical high level of quality.

Haven't played this yet but I do love stealth games. I was considering grabbing it when I go home tonight but knowing there's a disc based version on the way for console, I think I will wait for that, but I definitely feel like I'm in whenever that finally drops!

The disc will come on January.

One my GOTYs
The game was superb and is best played in the episodic format.

I fear for all the players that will just blitz through the episodes.

How's the PC version run?

I played a couple episodes on PS4 and loved it, thinking of buying the whole thing on PC

Not very well.

have a 1070 oc'd and an i5 6600k oc'd to 4.4 at the time and I got some dips below 60 at 1080 fucking p.

I haven't tried it again since i've upped it up my cpu to 4.5, but it probably wont make a difference. My Mobo/cpu cant get up to 4.6 without crashing even tho the temps are fine.

(disclaimer: I've only played up to makkaresh, I haven't bought thailand to hokkaido, which I hear are great btw)

someone can say how many maps/levels this game has?Every episode is only one map/level or is it more?
Six main levels with three bonus levels that are based on the existing ones. Also the tutorial has its own unique levels, although they're smaller in scale.

There's plenty of content when you add the escalations and elusive targets.

6 maps, 6 main missions, 2 tutorial levels, 3 bonus missions.

2 of the bonus missions are for Sapienza & Marrakesh, and we're still waiting on the third bonus mission. Bonus missions aren't available for anyone but the 'full experience' users at the moment, they will be available as a separate episode purchase once the third missions launches.

Also Hokkaido (episode 6) cemented this as my GOTY

What a fantastic level to close it out. As it is three of the levels in this game are franchise all timers and the other three are still rock solid.

Has there been any progress on a crack? I own the game already but I don't want to see it die if and when Square Enix brings down the servers.

Fantastic game, easily in my top 5 this year, and one that managed to shirk the negativity of it's episodic structure quite quickly.

This is the best example of episodic gameplay I've ever seen. In fact, I feel the overall impact would be diminished going in to the season in full now, as the amount of content here would almost be unnerving.

Offline mode would cover whether you were offline or whether you couldn't get a connection from them.
