Total sales for Hogwarts Legacy have surpassed 40 million units worldwide, publisher Warner Bros. Games and developer Avalanche Software announced.

The open-world action RPG based on the Harry Potter franchise first launched for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on February 10, 2023, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 5, 2023, Switch on November 14, 2023, and Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.

Hogwarts Legacy was last reported by Bloomberg to have surpassed 34 million sales in late March, meaning it sold six million additional units in eight months.

The Purple insane asylum right now:

I own it on Switch but never updated to Switch 2 or finished it because it got way too samey.

I now also own it for free on Epic but I haven't downloaded it. It was fun but unless you are rushing the story it falls apart.

I really really loved it, but there's also a lot that should be improved when they do the eventual sequel.

A true testament to the power of a big brand like HP. Game's the definition of mediocrity, quickly forgotten in a sea of games hadn't been in the world of HP.
If they really put their asses to work, they can improve every aspect of the game and elevate the sequel a la AC1 to AC2 style.

I put it down when I was up in the small hamlet next to the train station. It got overrun by spiders, just like a previous village I had just done.

I'm not really an HP fan but I think some of the lore is cool and the Slytherin house is interesting to me. I had a lot of fun with this game. It helped me connect with my families love for HP. I'm happy for the devs and as long as the rumors of part 2 being an MMO are not true (I want a single player experience), I'm planning on returning for the sequel. I think I'd rather be school staff in the sequel rather than being a student again.

How on God's green earth is this not a resounding W when putting WB Games on sale?

Yesh, it repeats activites over and over.

The combat and story also falls apart over time, the dodging makes you invincible once you master it, and the later missions is so safe and boring that you almost have to force yourself to continue.

But, it looks so cool and it's fun to explore these iconic areas. It's great to fly around as well.

I'm not sure any figure released after they were selling it for $0.00 is meaningful.

One of cases of Streisand effect in action lmao

Hopefully this one will be marked on the books as well and studied.

Damn that boycott really hurt the sales, this game is literally bigger than every Sony franchise. (I was going to say Microsoft too but they own CoD and Blizzard now)

It seems like we're seeing a real groundswell of enthusiasm for Harry Potter lately, which is especially impressive in the face of the pushback that's occurred to the author's views since 2020. I thought the controversy would end up slowing the brand down, but this thing seems to be an iceberg and it's going to keep on growing. It's a multi-generational thing at this point, set in stone like Star Wars or Disney cartoons.

At the base there's a good game, there's also a nice plot. and some fun puzzles.

There are too many collectibles and busy work which isn't fun. And the world looks the same all around, nothing special.

I hope they can streamline it.

One of the most woke games I've ever played selling millions of copies being seen as a win for incels, I don't understand this world anymore.
That's the really stupid part since WB went out of their way to make the game progressive and inclusive. And still, the morons on Era and elsewhere still lost their shit over it.
