Holiday Exclusives Showdown: PS3 vs. 360

I woudnt.
Its the full n64 game, ported to only 360 in high res with online.
That and the game fucking owned.

Ya, but the game utterly broken, and is outdated when it comes to modern console controls. C buttons or bust.

will pick up UNCHARTED!2!@! GOW pack and L4D2. I might pick up Ratchet when it's cheap. So PS3 > 360 for me.

That's a good question. I don't have a good answer. I think that anyone interested in buying a 360 because of the Halo series already has one. That being said, I don't think that Microsoft looks at ODST as a system seller they look at it as a game that will sell over four million copies. I'd wager that Modern Warfare 2 will sell more 360's than ODST.

See... I would argue that not eveyone who is interested in Halo has a 360. There are a lot of "casual" Halo fans who wouldn't necessarily buy a machine just for Halo. Having a new game in the franchise on the market may effectively bring that series into the mind of a potential buyer. Say someone decided they need a machine for MW2- they see that it's on 360 and PS3, then they see an ODST poster and think "Oh yeah, Halo is fun" so they decide to go for the 360. Purely hypothetical of course.

It might not sell systems, but it could very well contribute to system sales.

I agree with this sentiment completely. Most people don't buy a console for one game, it is the combination of quality software, features and price point that make a system attractive.

why you perceive the wii lineup as lacking is because you are unaware of the games coming out for it.

I own a Wii, I know everything that comes out for it, I'm one of the insanely few people that actually buy the niche games on the machine like Little King's Story.

The Wii isn't some haven of niche or unique software, and the myth that it is really needs to stop, because it gets annoying when I have a console I buy 1-2 games for in a YEAR being treated like it's some fountain of non-stop software on par with the Playstation 2.

When things like Madworld and Muramasa come out, which are still rarities on the Wii compared to niche RPG's and gems on any other platform, it's largely followed by months of utter nothingness that would appeal to the crowd who isn't as big on Wii Sports or Wii Fit.

I have nothing else to buy for 2009 after Muramasa, and three or so to buy in 2010. I'm buying 6 games for the Playstation 3 for the remainder of 2009 by comparison and god only knows how many in Q1 2010.

To me, that is a little anemic on the Wii's side and that's why it's my secondary console. For all the money Nintendo has I wish they'd put a little more back into it. Blizzard doesn't need to release mini-expansions for WoW every three months but they do it, Valve doesn't have to give away all their content on the PC and update games like TF2 non-stop when there's no fee, but they do it. There's no excuse just to sit around and ignore a fanbase just because it won't CURRENTLY forcefeed you money.

If released, Gran Turismo 5 will be the biggest seller this holiday (if we are talking only about exclusive games). Hands down.

I hope they are going to release GT5 this year because I've been waiting a hell of a long time to play it, but don't they need to announce this game soon if it's going to be a holiday release?

Maybe not because it's Gran Turismo, but if you look at fellow monster franchise Halo, they announced ODST and Reach, which is a long ways off from release or even being shown for that matter, a long time ago. Don't they at least need to let people know this is coming out this year if their plan is to get it on the market before the end of 2009? There's really not that much of 2009 left.

PS3 = Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, Demon's Souls
360 = Halo 3 ODST, Left for Dead 2, GTA Gay Tony Bundle, Forza 3

So its Games vs glorified Expansion Packs?

This is a pretty good post. I agree largely. There's some stuff I'm interested in on Wii, but man, the meaning of niche really has changed.

i cant speak on Demon Souls till i get to play it (thanks gamefly!), didnt finish the last ratchet & clank yet but Uncharted 2 and Katamari Forever are must-haves. Brutal Legend on whatever format.

nothing on the MS side gets me going here, but im also still sitting on GTA IV so that explains that. L4D 2 mebbe, if enough friends get on that one. i went & got gold again just to play 1 and still need to do more of this.

So which are which? I'm having a hard time differentiating between them here...

What, with all the sequels, expansions and refined versions filling out most of both lists.

Isn't that the whole point behind Natal at E3 and Natal next fall.

Especially since some of the big ps3 games this fall and early next year are also sequels.

Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, God of War 3, etc.

true, though the Wii hit that spot so I'm not sure if Natal/PSEye etc. will have that much of an impact.

While I agree with you that there mostly sequels coming for PS3, too. I could imagine some of them actually have quite an impact on the console sales, e.g. GoW3, drawing on the PS2 fanbase (nothing really comparable on the PS3 or other platforms yet, let alone of the same IP).

Though you never know, I remember the sales after the release of GTA4 and neither PS3 or 360 had a spike in sales which felt really strange to me.

Didn't you get the memo ? It's called expansion pack when it's cheaper.

The sequels/refined versions are on the PS3. Expansions are on the 360.

the general consensus seems to be that the 4 Xbox "big guns" will likely dominate PS3's 4 in the sales charts, except for Uncharted 2, which, like I said, looks like a strong GOTY contender which could really put it into system-seller territory. I don't think ODST will make as much of an impact as Halo 3 or Halo 2 did, but that seems to be the general consensus out there.

I didn't include GT5 because I'd bet it's a long shot to make December, considering Polyphony's track record of taking their sweet time.

I hope they voiced Afrika, instead of making it awkwardly silent when the NPCs talk to you.
So.. is Afrika supposed to be good? It's exactly the kind of game I want, but it seems like the execution might be questionable...

I do feel the expansion pack / stop gap flavor a little more with the 360 lineup. The only title that seems truly substantive and "proper" is Forza 3 and I'm not a fan of sim racers. I was really looking forward to Splinter Cell: Conviction but it's not making it out this year.

PS3 exclusives wise: Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, and the God of War collection have my undivided attention at the moment.

Strange then that its likely the expansions will have more gameplay hours than the actual games themselves.

It really does come down the opinion of the gamer. It's anyone's subjective opinion which system has the best lineup. Why argue?

How can we measure a winner or loser? Metacritic averages, sales, GAF meltdowns?

Man this expansion shit is really ridiculous. Does ODST even feature one playable character or scenario from Halo 3?

At least this thread has devolved into the usual mud slinging contest these sort of threads normally turn into. They are useful for taking notes on the up and coming new troll propsects.

Because it's Ps3 vs X360, and you can't play L4D2 on the Ps3.

I thought FFXIII was confirmed 2009 for Japan. GT5 is an enigma. The game is even being advertised as a december 2009 release over here. (Holland)

I was just shocked because I highly doubt that this would have been announced before TGS.

I think it will be announced at TGS for this year, along with GT5, but thats doubtful.

GT5 this year would be amazing, as with the price cut, that would help them sell a ton in Europe.

And L4d2 doesn't really appeal to me as that is on PC too, and will be cheaper, and better supported.

Also, Halo doesn't appeal to me either as COD 6 comes out and looks like it will be amazing, so that will be getting my money.

Other than that, Forza 3 doesn't look that appealing as I am not a fan of racing simulators.

So, Sony pretty much wins by default with Uncharted2 and Ratchet and Clank.

Plus, Doesn't Sony get some Assassins Creed Exclusive DLC? If they can fix the problems of the first one, that game could be Amazing.

I think the reason people are calling ODST an "expansion pack" is because thats what it was originally announced as and Bungie said they would therefore not charge it full price. And now it's $60 and people are just curious if it will warrant that price tag or if MSFT is just milking the Halo name. Only time will tell.

Expansions, refined ports, sequels, that's pretty much it on both sides. Oh wait, except for...
DEMON'S SOULS!!!!

Who cares what it was "announced" as? It's clear as day in every preview and piece of gameplay media that it's a full featured game featuring:

- A full single player storyline in an openworld
- A new co-op gamemode
- Oh and a bonus, 3 Playable Halo 3 Maps

It just boggles the mind. You could announce whatever you want, but that whole "people are just curious if it will warrant that price tag" is ominously wrongheaded as any curiosity has by now been roundly satisfied by the acres of media coverage of the final product.

Out of the 3 consoles, the 360 has the least interesting exclusives this year.
An expansion pak (GTA Gay Tony)
A quick cash-in (Left 4 Dead 2)
A spin off title to a sequel that's $60 (Halo 3 ODST)
Forza 3 (though not as hyped as Gran Turismo)

It's almost like they'd be more happy if odst's MP wasn't compatible with Halo3's, because then they would be different games...

which is nonsense of course.

Uh ? Here, maybe, but Forza 2 was already better than both GT4&GT5:P so I don't see why it would be less hyped than GT5. Forza 3 features/graphics are just amazing (last livery editors videos proves it)

So Forza is a failure because it's "not as hyped"? That's silly. Everyone's list is going to be subjective, which I why I don't understand why people need to denigrate other games (especially in such a ridiculous fashion) instead of talking about why they're excited about the games they're actually excited about.

For me it'll be.

PS3:

GT5
GOW Collection
Uncharted 2
Demon Soul's
R&C

360:

Halo ODST
Forza 3

Though I'll probably end up getting COD MW2 and AC2 on 360. MP racing games I tend to get on the PS3 for use with my G25, so that's NFS Shift and DIRT 2 covered.

I am glad to have a ps3 this holiday season. I will play l4d on the pc. The only regret I had selling my 360 was splinter cell being a 360 exclusive but that got delayed.

Pretty uninspiring all round. Only game i will pay full price for out of those is ODST. I may get F3 and U2 depending on budget.

This holiday season isn't all that good, this year in general hasn't been that great (2010 is looking much better than 2009).

Having said that the majority of games i will be buying this year are not exclusive to 360 or PS3.

It's less hyped because it's a smaller IP. How is that surprising? GT5 will outsell it, regardless of the quality of the games.

Yeah, I think anyone who's seen that latest storefront video realizes the way FM3 has really raised the bar in seemingly insurmountable ways. But then, I said that about FM2 and there still hasn't been a game that's come close to offering everything that it did in terms of community, multiplayer, and customization.

And then they went ahead and made it like thirty times better.

So, who knows. Different strokes, etc.
