Hollow Knight: Silksong |OT| It’s SHAW-time!!!!

and the run there has exploding bomb throwing flyers who are immune to their own bombs
I found that you either need to bait them to a place where you can attack from under them like a small platform or use your tools which I try not to use on regular enemies. I just unlocked the Cogfly tool, but that was after that room. I think that would've really useful there as it tracks everything. I got another tool that also applies poison along with regular damage for a DOT effect.

In what region do you get the anti maggot potion?
It's a wearable tool in an area directly above bilewater called the Wreath of Purity. From the discription, you're not completely immune as it is breakable, but it allows you to take dunks in the bilewater without applying that maggot effect immediately. It can be reparied at a bench if broken.

I still haven't finished bilewater, but will probably tackle that next.

yeah cogfly is great. I save all tools for boss phase 3

I'm out of markers for the map - I have gold, silver, and red. Are there more or do I need to start backtracking to free some up? I'm in The Citadel, so it might not be worth it to go all the way back and leave.

At one point you will be able to buy more.

Also there is a station in the citadel (which I took a very long time to find) so you can easily go back to previous area.

What is the point of upgrading your weapon when it makes such a little difference against bosses. I upgraded 3 times (even that long quest is done) but I have zero advantage against bosses. They dont go down faster.

Damage does go up and bosses are dying faster, but the damage increase is a constant value (source), meaning that each increase yields a diminishing return so it might not be immediately apparent you are stronger.

Really finding the bosses a disappointment in this one. I die more in the ambush rooms because you have no idea what is coming the first few times.

The Forge Brothers and the Cogwork Dancers have been the most interesting but the Dancers are ridiculously easy if you stand in a corner.

Really wish I'd gone back to the wormways and got that ability much earlier.

I just found the mapmaker again in Bellhart in the upper right of the town. He was selling 2 additional markers to the gold, silver and red; black and bronze markers.

I didn't really have an additional need for more markers since once I complete an objective or get everything I want from a location I remover them, but I had the excess rosaries and they are easy to farm now.
I've never even used just 1 of all my markers, but I really should mark by what's there. I've just been using the same markers for everything.

Going to tackle Bilewater next, but looking at my maps, I have a lot of stuff to do and I'm 60+ hours in. A lot of those hours are just failing a ton of jumping puzzles to get good stuff though. I think I got all the traversal abilities.

What's the ability in wormway? I haven't explored that area yet.

Just did this last night, very many attempts, ouch, anyone else do this yet

I don't know what words to say about it, I guess it takes a lot of mental stamina maybe is a good way to say it?

Up to 8 health now found a sneaky piece of one hidden way west of the Shellwood station, and I've been most places.

Got a couple of areas to finish off before I go back into the Citadel. Also found an optional boss but it's too late to deal with that now lol.

I can guarantee if you look at the map you think you hve been to most places. But so much secret areas that only appear when you find them.

I really gave this game a good shot.
I like the aesthetics and the gameplay, the exploration and discovery is fun.
But the game feels like it's constantly telling me "why are you wasting your time with this, go play something that respects your time".
Bosses + random adds on a small screen = randomness = cheap way to do difficulty
Long runbacks
Meaningless health/damage upgrades
Tools that require grinding to recharge (like Sekiro)
Lack of benches / limited fast travel points
Sadistic stretches of long stretches of platforming with double damage on regular enemies (what's the point of getting health upgrades??)

I've never shied away from a hard game, certainly not a souls like, but this game is just not it.
I can see how many people would want to wear it as a badge of honor, but there are just better designed games out there with better difficulty curves.
Putting an easy mode into this game would be trivial. But perhaps the developers are too high on their own supply, or they spent 7 years making a game and got so good at it they don't even realize what they created.
Please send me your empathy and 'get gud' emojis.

PS. I almost got all the songs but got to this one room in the citadel. Game just went from 1 to 100.

I always do this in games I get so absent minded. I don't know if it's still lingering neurological issues I've been dealing with but I'll just be much more forgetful short term lately. It affects me in games. I've been playing half the game and didn't use tools or change my crest because I just forgot to do so. Man that would've helped in some boss fights.

Gonna give Bilewater another go. Despite all the hate i've seen, i've mostly enjoyed Sinners Road, Bilewater and Mists. I love the consistent theme of water being dangerous and the sense of dread and having to be more aware of your surroundings. While all have been challenging, they haven't been infuriatingly so. I reserve the right to change my mind when I get to the supposedly ridiculous boss fight.

30 hours in, i saw the
first ending, now i am trying to get to act 3 and no idea how, i'm just doing side quest hoping it's going to trigger something

i got to say now the game's starting to get really boring, the game has too much side content that's really not worth playing in my opinion, a lot of fillers, at time the game almost feels disjointed.

And i have to admit, i don't think i remember any particular moment so far, like really i don't see what was really memorable about all the areas, bosses etc. The Citadel looked like it was going to be a big climax but it was just not that great actually.

DETERMINATION

I've lost 700 rosaries in Sinner's road. The effort I put into 4 maps went to waste. The thought that my Dualshock and monitor are very expensive helped me stay calm. Ten minutes later, I just kept playing as if nothing had happened. I don't know why I enjoy these kinds of games.

It was a test for sure. A test of my stubbornness. Turns out I'm pretty, pretty, pretty stubborn.

That room is a progress check. You can get NPCs to help you if you progressed enough in other areas, also get several additional masks, hit harder, lots of useful tools etc... You are not supposed to beat that room early on in Act 2, but very late into it.
I just think they should have hid it further so that not so many people would think it's bullshit while it's just an overall progression check.

Hehe. I beat it solo.

Good job :D I like how the game allows you to do that precisely, like being super stubborn and overcome adversity anyway ! So far, the game is not as hard as people make it.

Every boss had a trick to be beaten, like I read that Moorwing was considered as tough, while I beat him on second try. Just going under him makes you untouchable, then you hammer him with up + attack. And so far almost all bosses have been cruel, but fair IMO. Even the boss runs can be cheesed and there isn't one that took me more than a minute of my time so far.
Only bullshit is how so many light contacts make you loose 2 masks (pitfalls, touching a boss, etc.).

Very happy with the game, GOTY material.

Personally I'm conflicted with the game. When the game clicks like it did in that mob room in the High Halls it's great. You get into the zone and you have to use all of your abilities to your best knowledge to survive and overcome the challenge. The game forces you to meditate and become one with the game to triumph.

But then that's not the game. The game is also all this other stuff with exploration and NPCs and sidequests and everything else that lulls you into sleep and it's a beautiful dream but it causes you to forget most of the mechanics until you hit another mob room like wall and you get frustrated and you have to re-learn the mechanics. And you wake up and you either give up or beat your head against the wall and get into the fucking zone to overcome the challenge.

This game is the polar opposites of itself and I'm conflicted if that was a good idea. I don't know. We'll see. It's a puzzler for sure. It's a huge game and maybe it's two games wrapped in one package.

The Moorwing as an early boss feels very cheap, one of my most frustrating experiences, I died only because he went out of sight and I couldn't foresee his attacks.

Beat the Broodmother and Beastfly 2.0 last night. Though hard due to the arenas, those were fair fights. My only grip: the 2-mask damage on contact is very punishing in this kind of bosses. Sometimes I was managing the combat very well, but too often I hit the minion just to bounce off and hit the fucking boss, losing 3 masks at once.

IMO side quests are great because they make explotarion much more entertaining.

I haven't been back there in a while but does
your slave only give the silkgrub things that allow you to get your corpse without going to it.
Or are there different rewards?

Also I just remember I never did the throwing weapon mini game. Does that have a decent reward?

Oh yes, I used "it" all the time. But that's assuming you're talking about the throwing weapon mini game that I am referring to. :D

No but there's a different throwing mini game later on.
cool. I found a boss that it saves me outside of it, not at the bench a few screens away making all of my tools and tool upgrades worthless..... which is nice.

3 different bosses to try until I go back to the story.

I think I thoroughly scrubbed everything before finishing Act 1
Except for the Last Judge. Only did one attempt.

I'm not sure where the difficulty complaints are coming from. Thus far nothing crazy. Sure, I lost my first bunch of Rosaries at the Sinners Road, and The Mist was a pain but nothing rage inducing.

I don't get it either, it's really not that hard, nor are the run backs excessively long, and I'm well into Act 2 (progressing slowly because of my urge to look everywhere for newly accessible areas the moment I get a new ability).

lol, that shit took me 2 days of trying.
Granted I play a lot with distractions, but still took me a long time
Some of the boss fights / mob rooms have taken me three days of trying :goog_grinning_sweat:

The climbing was more easy for me as it didn't have any random elements like the different kinds of mobs in let's say Savage Beastfly.

Mount Fey was both easier and harder than I thought it was going to be. Getting to the first bench was a pain, and then finding the second one. It was a lot shorter than I expected though. The reward for making it to the top was worth it though, backtracking is so much more pleasant.

So I just beat the Savage Beastfly in about 12-13 attempts, but that mountain took me 2 days...lol
This game challenges you in so many ways.

The platforming was really good in Silksong. There's at least four sections with demanding platforming including three mandatory ones and they're all pretty fun and balanced, with good bench placements and the appropriate length. Even the optional one
the climb to the surface on top of the destroyed cradle
was much more reasonable than the path of pain.
