Love the episode with all the villains playing poker telling stories.

The Joker ALWAYS GETS CAUGHT HANGING UPSIDE DOWN.

I think I need to revisit the Nolan films after I finish this, give myself a little more context for the Batman. Maybe that's why I never liked those movies.
The show isn't comparable to the Nolan films at all.

The visual style of the films are based on the Burton movies... to an extent. They really maintain their own unique style though and I'd absolutely love the Post-Nolan films to use the animated series as reference.

Nah, I just meant that I literally knew *nothing* about Batman going into see those movies.
Little things like Alfred and Batman's relationship, the Joker's Chronies' masks, the joker always getting caught upside down. There are tons of little Batman tropes that I'm recognizing from the movies in this show.. and I'm only 4 episodes in. I feel like after watching this entire series, [which I'm definitely going to do because it's so rad] I'll probably have a much better understanding of Batman as a concept and maybe be able to enjoy those movies a little more. Hell, maybe I'll even be able to make it past the 10 minute mark in the Burton ones.

I think some people forget some of the cheese in the first episodes. Batman TAS had the cheese (like the ep where he gets saved by some kids and they hang out in a basement while the kids play homealone with the penguin, or the episode where Alfred chases a kid around a bedroom)

That said, for every dull/ silly episode like that, there's some true brilliance going on so its (mostly) easy to forgive.

I like the cheese.

Me and my friend still consider this the best incarnation of Batman anywhere.

Lost me at Teen Titans. Worst thing to ever happen to the DCAU
Teen Titans isn't part of the DCAU. Static Shock and The Zeta Project are though.

Eh these episodes are pretty rare and think that even those always have something cool in them.

I was looking on Amazon to see how much the DVD's were and I noticed volume 4 says From the New Batman Adventures. Whats that mean? Is volume 4 not related to the first 3 volumes?

I used to sprint home from school to watch this. It's the best animated tv series ever.
Same :)
This thread also reminds me of the terrible cartoons that this generation of kids have to watch.

It is! I watched this show religiously as a kid haha. It is one of my favorite animated shows of all time. I even appreciate it more as an adult because of subject matter in some of the episodes.

It's related, but it's after the art style was changed fairly considerably, Dick has become Nightwing, Tim Drake is Robin, and Batgirl plays a more prominent role, I think.

Yup, add those to the fun!

I didn't say there were tons of these episodes, just that they're some of the first episodes newcomers will see. It seems kind of funny to say "there's no cheese at all" and then the some of the first episodes are the cheesiest of the whole series.

Best Joker ever. Glad to see people still discovering this series.

Does Mask of the Phantasm enter in this universe? that movie was amazing as well.

After the show ended on FOX the show was revived two years later on WB to air alongside the Superman cartoon. It's the same continuity but the art was redesigned and stories gave greater emphasis to the entire Bat-family.

the episode where Alfred is chasing a kid around the living room is when poverty stricken children were getting kidnapped and forced into slave labor. CHEESE DAMMIT!

Joker's past conflicts in the movie from that in the series(in the movie he has a mafioso past but in the series he has a failed comedian past) so not sure wether it's in continuity with the series(could be those two things happened at different parts of his life?). Great movie, my friend prefers it to any of the live action ones. It's third best for me after the Burton movies.

Much like the films they ruined it by making it more "kid friendly" and added Robin.

Some fantastic episodes in there.

I loved the mini story arc with the
super computer
.. "Heart of Steel" and "His Silicon Soul" if I remember the titles right.

This and Spider-Man TAS were the best.
I have such a soft spot for Spider-Man TAS. Batman is probably better "objectively," but Spider-Man's struggle, the continuity, the Madam Web/Beyonder/Secret Wars thing -- it all just really resonated with me.

It was a fanatastic show, and is the reason I love Batman. The TAS version is easily the definitive non-comic version of him for me (I consider the Arkham Asylum one to be the same universe as well); in it he is truly the goddamn Batman.

The continuity that it spawned with the DCAU is incredible as well, it's all good stuff that you should check out. And since you're loving TAS, then especially Batman Beyond (and Return of the Joker) are high priority.

Spider-Man's emphasis on story arcs was good; it allowed for more fleshed out stories. Too bad FOX's censors and the horrible animation mar it.

That is the story yes. But how its handled is full of cheese and nonsensical behavior and plot points. It is boundlessly silly and it could have been much better than it was.

:O

How have I never seen this before? It's incredible. I've never really even liked Batman, the only comic I've read is year one and it didn't make that big of an impression on me. The movies never clicked either. But holy crap, this is the greatest thing I have ever seen. My friend is really into right now, and she lent me a few DVDs to watch. I'm like burning through them. I woke up this morning, and was SO EXCITED to watch Batman.

It's the best, GAF. Go watch it if you haven't seen it, and rewatch it if you have.
Currently on Episode 4 "The Last Laugh."
you're currently on Episode 4? Did you spend the 90's inside of a time capsule buried under a rock in a cave on Mars or something? :l

Robin's been in the show from the start. Some of the best eps in the show even focus on him.

in fact, all the villains were done right in TAS

Oh wow, one of the few episodes I remember is about

Static Shock is awesome. Teen Titans is also awesome, not being part of DCAU is nothing against it.

I have no idea about Zeta Project though.

In fact there was a Robin-central two-parter that won an emmy that occurred before the title change into Batman & Robin.

Didn't say not being part of the DCAU automatically made it bad. I think Teen Titans is ok. Static Shock and Zeta are bad.

One of the best animated series of all time.

I think it also won 2 emmy awards.
