As I understand it, the scene was only finished in 2014 for the Signature Edition.

It's one thing to have minor beats cut in an animatic. I've boarded entire action sequences that were cut. That shit hurts. I can only imagine how much it would've sucked to lose this scene.

This scene wasn't really needed since it was already implied that he was a war machine in the theatrical cut. I mean why else would he have all those weapons on him.

It's definitely a case of show don't tell.

I totally agree! The toy gun scene would be less impactful with this clip included. It's perfect how tightly the story unfolds, which is also why l don't need to ever see an Iron Giant origin story or see a return for a "brand new adventure" set in the 80s or some shit.

This clip is still cool to see.

yeah im gonna agree that this was better left out, its close though, would have been a tough call to make at the time.

but i really am glad it got made and we get to see it now, if for no other reason that how well animated it was, especially that destruction, looked cool as hell.

They had a theatrical release for 1 day I think, that included both this scene and the other new scene cut into the movie.
