Honest Trailers - Power Rangers 2017

That's the intended idea, but it just doesn't work. There's no energy to that moment. In contrast:

-Catchphrase
-New version of the theme kicks in
-New morphers, good use of sound design for effect
-Brief poses to show off the movie costumes
-As more rangers morph, the guitar intensifies
-Jump into screen just like the show, showing off the team as a whole

That wouldn't work in a big budget picture. It's fine for 90s television but it's still very cheesy. Which is great for MMPR fans. But not for a modern day version. I have no problem with how the movie handled the morph sequence. The build up to it was great, thanks to the honestly fantastic cast, Brian Tyler's score was cliche but heroic as fuck, and that walk was badass as hell. It got me straight in the feels as a huge Rangers fan.

The film is certainly... weird about how it handles it, but Kimberly's arc, such that it is, is in learning to understand that having done one shit thing doesn't automatically condemn her as a 'bad person' forever. Broadly the same as what Jason goes through.

That's the thing though, I'd understand if that was her arc...but her dropping (ice cream? Something else?) on the girl whose nudes she shared at the end of the movie and acting all smug about it made it so off putting.

Unless I'm misremembering something and one of those girls wasn't the one she shared the pictures of and...I don't know.

I'm not saying you have to recreate the sequence itself, but honestly? With stuff like this you embrace the cheese. When Guardians of the Galaxy - both films - is getting away with 1970s songs as explicit text of the film, you cannot claim a proper morphing sequence in Power Rangers would be too cheesy.

Hence I say it handles it weird. Because yeah, they pin the visible aspects of that arc to two girls who we've clearly meant to root against, and be glad when Kim gets comeuppance on them, even though she was the one who did something wrong.

The fact that all the monsters just left during their morphing sequence never fails to be funny.

Says who? They never even tried, and their "badass" Power Rangers didn't do much at the box office so that idea that a non-camp version would do well goes out the window.

The overuse of it is so snarky the writer probably could've done it for free. I would have. :P

I was actually more surprised that it showed up in the Power Rangers mobile game. One of the stages is Krispy Kreme.

Man that game was terrible.

Yeah, still really weird. Since we're seeing everything through her perspective though and she sees herself as the victim, it makes sense. I'm kinda shocked they even went with that angle. Maybe a sequel will acknowledge her missteps?
? We saw her thinking of herself as a terrible person. It's why she didn't want to share that night around the fire. And she pretty much spells it out for the red ranger that she's ashamed.

Isn't that the point where the film turns around and makes her the victim?

I saw the movie because I have a few friends who are extras in the film. I was surprised how little of the 'extra' footage was used in the final movie given how much they actually filmed.

The whole movie was pretty boring, IMO. There was too much focus on them training to become the Power Rangers and not enough scenes of them actually being the Power Rangers.

I loved the movie. Unfortunately it's not looking like it will get a sequel, but I really hope it does. There are lots of things they could really expand on with a sequel.

I'm so glad he pointed out that this was actually a good teen drama. The actual ranger battles and zord battle sucked hard though. They really need to improve that if we ever get a sequel.

Shatter my energy if old.

there wont be a sequel - I looked up at the BO and this tanked big time.

I also hated it when I watched it

thought this movie might have been good but its sort of garbage tier how bad it is.

amazed at how unabashed the krispy kreme product placement was. They kept talking about it and rita repulsa even sat down with the donuts.

3/10

Know what else sucked?

No silly rubber suits. Power Rangers aint shit without the big bulky rubber monster/zord suits or skintight spandex. Alas.

I could be misremembering. I recall the scene with her and the red ranger being more about being willing to trust him enough to share about what she did, rather than it being about her as a victim...
