Honestly, does PS5 really have a killer app right now?

A game that all has been teased as a title card

Why such the shark frenzy to get a PS5?

Where is the next gen on display?
I mean, even if you don't think there's a killer app....why wait?

It's not going to drop in price anytime soon. So you could either wait until the day the killer app shows up, and pay the same price. Or you can buy it now, have a much better experience with your PS4 games, grab any title that you want but don't necessarily consider a "killer app", and have no downside other than spending the money today instead of a year from now.

You're an idiot

OR

You've already won life so hard that dropping 2k on a PS5 means nothing to you

Who's the idiot then :messenger_neutral:
Still dumb to drop a lot of money on a console that has no titles that take real advantage and is a real draw to buy the console vs a version of the game on older hardware. Doesn't matter if you are rich.

Why does it need a killer app? People buy new tech. They also know Sony will release quality games on the system throughout it's lifecycle.
Demon Souls could be considered one
It doesn't. This was terminology for when graphics were counted in bits and big games only came out for Christmas season. Nobody buys a system for one game unless you're going to play it nonstop like Gran turismo

To me? No, but it depends on your flavor. I'm waiting for Horizon FW and GOW:R. But pretty happy with the purchase, and not having any technical issues so far. Although PS4 was even more dry, but BF4 was a wonderful ride until games started hitting.

I didn't buy a PS5 for a killer app because I had tons of them in my PS4 backlog but now with visual and/or frame rate enhancements. PS5 killer apps are still coming but nothing for now.

It's easily the best launch lineup Sony has ever had

I think people don't give it enough credit. By comparison, most launches are garbage and even if they have a "killer app" it's literally only one game to play (like BOTW)

Demons souls, Astros playroom, and Spider-Man kept me entertained for a while

And if not, is one really on the horizon?

I can safely answer no on both counts
i mean this is such a silly question considering the fact that almost no consoles going back two decades have launched with a killer app.

The switch didn't launch with shit. Zelda was on the Wii u.
The ps4, arguably the best lineup of killer apps since maybe ps2 launched with killxone shadowfail and knack.
Xbox one launched with no killer apps.
Wii u launched without killer apps unless you consider zombie u a killer app which i don't think you should.
Ps3 launched with no killer apps. Resistance was ok but not a killer must own game.
Wii launched with a Zelda game that was also on the GameCube.
Xbox 360 didn't get its first killer app until 2006 when gears launched a full year after launch.

The og Xbox was the last console that launched with a killer app. But halo was competing with a year old ps2 with its own killer apps like dmcv, mgs2, silent hill 2, gta3 and ffx. So who wins that battle of killer apps?

The ps3 had a similar underwhelming launch but by the end of their first year, they had resistance, motorstorm, heavenly sword, warhawk, ratchet, and uncharted all salvage that year. Ps5 has ratchet, gow, horizon and gt7 all slated to come out this year. Good chance they get pushed back but right now the dates they have given are this year. It will have its killer apps.

Of course not, why care about anything but your own.

Theres a place where hive minded people post like this. People who think their view is more correct than others.
Why you talk about yourself? Demon'souls it's special for many people because was their first souls like, accept it.

Agreed, also PS5 patches and BC improvements for older titles also were better than some people thought.

Astro's Play Room is a true gem IMHO, a real poster child of what DualSense can do, and a superb love letter to PlayStation's history.

Yep. Several for me: Demon's Souls, Sackboy, Astrobot, Miles, Spider-Man Remastered and on top of that BC titles like GoW, Days Gone and Ghost of Tsushima. Even TLoU2 without patch is a big incentive to get on board. And then there's R&C looming on the horizon. Amazing launch so far.

It's worth it for a remake? Ok then...
Yeah, it is a kick ass remake and that level of graphics quality at nearly locked 60 FPS (and 1440p with excellent temporal reconstruction to 4K) vs what you might have experienced on PS3? Yeah, any day of the week and twice on Sunday's.

Why does it trigger people Demon's Souls is something that excites people?

Demons souls is tremendous.

I've never played the original but this remake is starting to feel like one of the best games I've ever played. The production values are also incredible.

Demon's Souls is as good of a launch game I've experienced, except maybe BotW.

Although, obviously it's not for everyone. I surprised myself when I actually beat it.

a remaster and a dlc are the killer apps ?

Killer apps are like how the original Doom was. Like Half Life was. Star Craft. Command&Conquer. Diablo. Essential, groundbreaking games where you would miss out on a piece of history by not playing them. Not some cinematic 3rd person shit that playstation bathes in
I'm afraid the types of games you have listed a rarely made anymore. RTS are no longer "killer apps" unfortunately.
That is difficult for me to say have loved playing RTS my whole life, Age of Empires, CnC, Ground Control, Homeworld (love Homeworld).
Groundbreaking games I would say for PS4 would be GoW, Horizon Zero Dawn and Ghosts of Tsushima

I think we can't know what is or isn't a killer app until people actually buy a console for that app.

Since most people who want a console couldn't get one right now, we are not getting an accurate picture of software popularity.

Once consoles are freely available, we would actually have people thinking "I want that game, maybe i would buy a PS5?" Instead of "I want that game, but why bother fight the crowds now when I can't get a console. I will wait".

And there''s one for people that understand when some say they are happy and love what they have (BC and Demon's Souls), they target themselves. Mister Freud is the boss for it and there's nothing wrong for that. People are not happy with BC and others... they should deal with it, and don't get next get, stay with retarded last generation hardwares or with GamePass since it's ok for it to be last gen only and the greatest thing ever. And that's ok. I still play SegaSaturn; ;-) I made the jump to PS5 and I'll never get back to a PS4.

I mean if people are not able to understand how vital is BC for the industry, how awesome it is done for us consumers, how devs need both generations to sell the more, it's not my problem. Not every game needs to be exclusive to next gen, unless it's done from the ground with those in mind. And guess what, it takes time to create those. We are not going to see any new Fallout until 5 or 7 years.... More for a sequel to Skyrim.

Have your phone, new computer, TV and so on, a killer app too at launch?

I'm back in with the PS5, and these Sony games are fucking chores.

I've tried to play Ghosts of Tsushima for a month. Then Ninja Gaiden 2 is leaving game pass. I beat it in a week and it's not really even short. Sony games just suck.

Therefore, Demons Souls is a pretty good answer and it's not too surprising, because most say it was Bloodborne for PS4....and there is no consensus among other chore games Sony puts out.

Those games are run of the mill games, the most standard games you can imagine. Horizon in particular is just the most boring and banal game. Ghost of Tsushima is a ubisoft clone, but a primitive one, from 2012. God of War is the usual simplistic liniar 3rd person action adventure with a focus on story.

They're just normal games in a sea of thousands, they're not something i would fuss over. Especially Horizon or Tsushima. You could understand god of war, but not those other two being so profoundly mediocre

Miles Morales was pretty great, but yeah I wouldn't exactly call it a killer app. I'm mostly still just playing Destiny 2 on my PS5 so I guess that says something.

Neither system does. That's why all this hype about getting a console is crazy. You're missing literally NOTHING. (And yes I have both).
Astro is best 3 hours platformer ever.
And if any souls fan missed on demon's, well it's a new souls and any souls is console worthy

I personally think the reason why the PS4 is still getting a lot of releases is because Sony haven't got a Killer App ready yet, and COVID has put a halt on at least some of the mass buying hype in Store purchases.

The Scalping is out of Control and I think people are probably waiting to buy in-store over Online due to this.

I do want one eventually but happy to play my PS4 games til then!

It still has great games on it though like Demons Souls and God of War coming out.

No killer apps on any consoles.
I think the Pandemic situation is also the reason, more and more titles are pushed back. But since many people are not able to get their hands on new hardware it is kinda okish...

I'm trying to get my hands on a 3080 but the PC Hardwaremarket is so disgustlingly ridculous I think I will will wait for the next generation of graphics cards....even if Anno is stuttering like hell in endgame :messenger_grinning_sweat:

This is the dumbest response in this thread: Goes ahead and lists 20+ year old games that none one of them launched with anything.

For me is Demon's Souls and soon Returnal.

Honestly, other than the geriatric main character, everything on Returnal seems awesome!

More than the Series X which is all it needs. I mean honestly does it need one when it's being sold for triple the price right now? DS, Miles, Spidey Remastered, Sackboy, Godfall, Destruction All Stars and Control Ultimate for free pretty much. It has a nice start to this gen and Ratchet up next will sell assloads. I don't think the PS5 could be off to a better start unless they free up more stock somehow.

Tbh it's quite impressive that Sony can launch playstations without any killer apps and still have them sell amazingly. I don't really know how they get away with it.

It's been a long time since a console launched with a killer app, last time i can think of is Halo on the OG Xbox. Playstation 5 has no killer app yet, but I'm not worried there won't be in a year or two.

Objectively (Review Scores, Budget/Scope):

Demon`s Souls

Subjectively:
Depends if you like From-Games.

Aside from Demon`s Souls however I don`t see anything worth getting a next gen console for. And buying a console just for one game......

The killer app is the hunt and getting the order confirmed email. Outside of that, it's a good way to play the PS4 games you missed.
