Why would I lie? I guess I'm a sloppy eater of melons.

...
you're eating them before they are properly ripe, my friend. a good ripe cantaloupe beats the shit out of honeydew in any shape.

ps, onkelc you are INSANE

pineapple on pizza is exactly like nutella on bratwurst. that is why it is so goddamn good

no, it's not. they all taste like cucumber with sugar.
Come to Spain and taste an actual melon for once (Piel the Sapo, others classes are pretty much worthless).

Been there, done that (several times, actually) and still: bleh.

Wat?! I can't see how a good sweet melon with some nice ham can be "bleh"... :S

Oh, and a pizza should be:

CHEESE
TOMATO SAUCE
HAM
PEPPERONI (a bit)

And that's it. It doesn't need anything else!! Even good thin and crisp only-cheese-and-tomato Italian pizza is better than all those weird mixes you guys are talking about.

You are dead to me. Piel de Sapo with jamón is the food of the gods, specially now in summer.
A shame, you were amongst my most respected posters on GAF until now.:lol

I can understand this. Common grocery mangoes found in the USA are too turpentiney. The sweet kinds are all in the tropics.

One of the few things that makes me happy about living in the tropics. Delicious, juicy, luscious mangoes. Just right outside of our house is a huge mango tree and I think I'm gonna go visit it now

Pineapple on pizza is fucking disgusting. Whoever invented "Hawaiian" pizza should be shot. Ew. Same for sweet and sour pork and the like.

You obviously haven't had a white clam pizza (clams, roasted garlic, bacon, cheese, no sauce). :9

Prosciutto + melon is amazing, been a while since I've had it though... for some reason, I like to eat sweet foods with salty foods, (i.e. if I'm snacking on potato chips, I'll also have some cookies on the side), so that combination is like heaven.

I have a whole bag of watermelon to snack on during lunch today. Watermelon is really hit-or-miss, but when it's good, it's probably my fave fruit ever.

Agreed. Is there any way to tell beforehand if a watermelon is going to be "mealy" on the inside? <barf>. I'd love to see a watermelon hybrid that tastes like the core all the way to the edges.

So what does that mean?

That pizza makes no sense either! The best pizza is obviously prosciutto/margarita/whatevertheycallitwhereyoulive (also depends, because in some places margarita is plain cheese and sauce, other places include ham, and same for prosciutto).

As a Black man, melons are fucking amazing. Watermelon, Honeydew, and Cantaloupe all taste delicious, unfortunately I think I'm slightly allergic to them, my throat always starts to itch like crazy after eating them :( Same with Bananas.

A true cantaloupe is something you've probably never seen, as the fruit most Americans call Cantaloupe is a muskmelon.

Uhhhh, isn't muskmelon simply the name for the Cantaloupe's species of fruit?

I approve highly of this thread title. I thought I was the only one who used this Simpsons phrase. Kudos to you.

I just read the article. What sane person would spend that much on cantaloupe? People who live decadently like this are abhorrent to me.

People have hate for canteloupe? :lol

It tastes good and is refreshing. What's there to hate?

I used to looove honeydew as a kid, still like it now, just not as much. Watermelon I've come to really enjoy as an adult. As a kid, I was like meh.

Honeydews have that sinister invisible rind to worry about. At least watermelons and cantaloupes let me know when I'm getting close to the end.

those spanish melons are awesome, they saved my life one hot summer in valencia

and oh you non-victorian aussies are funny! here we call them cantaloupes. you can make a salad with cantaloupes and scallops you know ;)

Cantalope... acid?... WHAT?

You guys better come to Louisiana and eat a cantalope. I have no idea what the fuck you guys are eating.

many foods are acidic to some degree.

pH is a special scale created to measure how acidic any substance is, and the lower you get on the pH scale, the more acid a substance contains. At the very low end of the scale (in the pH range of 2.0), you'll find the lemons and limes-the most acidic of the World's Healthiest fruits. At the opposite end of the scale (near a pH of 14), you won't find any fruits whatsoever! However, cantaloupes and many melons will fall closer to the center of the range, with a pH of 6.0-6.6 (cantaloupes), or honeydew melons (6.0-6.7).

cantaloupe has never really appealed to me. compared to a good honeydew, it's bland and rather flat tasting. honeydew, on the other hand, i savor delightfully. a good one is so sweet, and juicy, i can't imagine someone NOT loving it. i mean, unless you have no soul. i don't count watermelon in all this since a watermelon technically isn't a melon, it's a berry.

as to other stuff in this thread: i don't like Hawaiian style pizza because i'm not a huge fan of ham, and as much as i like cooked pineapple in my meals, it doesn't really mix well with cheese for me. i also don't like raw mango that much. for some reason it tastes like a raw carrot that's chewy and juicy as opposed to crunchy. it's weird for me. i do however, LOVE dried mango. one of the best fruits to eat dried, imo, right under cranberries.
