I have the 2407 and love it, got my PS3 hooked up to it via HDMI -> DVI since mine doesn't have an HDMI port.

Nice, just wondering, I'm going to connect hdmi-dvi too, i ordered the dell sound bar, where is your sound output coming from, and what cable did you use? thanks

Does anyone have any experience of the VDigi PS3 to VGA cable? I have the Wii to VGA cable and think its great and I would much prefer running my PS3 when I get it next weekend on my 22'' monitor as I do the Wii and the 360 than my 20'' TV.

I tried googling reviews, but all I found was reviews of the Wii cable.

Cable, pics at bottom

The pics look ok, but they don't tell me if the cable ghosts etc.

Oh well, I took the plunge, I'll report back with pics when I get the cable if I remember, I think I forgot to post Wii VGA Cable pics when I got mine.

I'd love to see a 720p game and a 1080p game running on the

HP 24" (W2408H)

Anyone has a PS3 hooked to this monitor here?

Whoa I hope you don't mind the ridiculous input lag on that monitor. You're gonna be playing all your games with about 40ms of latency. This is gonna destroy any type of rhythm game or fighting game. I know that you can at least calibrate lag in Guitar Hero, but trust me, calibrating the lag is still a far inferior experience to playing on a TV without input lag.

As far as properly displaying 1080P, there are tons of monitors out there besides Kadey's special little monitor. 22" is a little trickier, but any 24" that does 1:1 pixel mapping will display PS3 just fine as long as it's HDCP enabled. Take a look at this anandtech LCD roundup article for some good choices http://www.anandtech.com/displays/showdoc.aspx?i=3302&p=1

I decided to get the Gateway FHD2400 after reading it.

I'll be hooking it up to a 22'' E228WFP Dell btw if anyone has the same and is interested how it will look.

uhhh i have the exact same monitor and have managed to play rhythm games just fine.

How would you guys get the audio out of the HDMI signal?

Have the PS3 output the audio thru optical and use that instead? This thing just ties your head in knots I swear.

I do the same thing I have my ps3 connected to my monitor at work ( it has DVI) and I use the composite cables for audio output. I bought an adapter that connects it to my computer speakers and then I went to audio setting output via composite ( while video outputs thru hdmi) and viola.

I believe you can also use the composite cables that came with the ps3 for audio, or any old ps3 video cables.

Anybody know if there is some sort of HDMI-DVI adapter that also has a combined audio output line (like stereo mini plug)? It's annoying having to also run the old rca cables to get stereo sound. I've searched online, and such a thing does not appear to exist. :(

Hey guys, I just bought this monitor and am going to try and hook up my PS3 and/or 360 to it.
Regarding sound, can I use the little adapter that basically turns the red/white audio plugs into a line in plug, and just insert that into my PC's "line-in"?

Yep.

Excellent, thanks.

EDIT: just one more thing, I'm having a brain fart and I don't want to order the wrong thing, so can someone just tell me which HDMI -> DVI adapter I need? I mean, in the male to female sense. I need to plug my PS3 into my DVI monitor.

yep, I've hooked my ps2, ps3 and 360, so far tried VF5, Halo3, GT:P and Grandia 2, not a problem at all.

My PS3 VGA cable is apparently at home, so I'll post some pics after work if all goes well.

I bet it turns out to be my DualShock 3 and not my cable.

You may want to look into FW900 .It's a 24" CRT flatscreen monitor and it goes around ~$240 in ebay.

Sweet, it was my cable, that was some fast delivery from Hong Kong as apparently it didn't ship till Friday.

Like their Wii cable, a little bit of setup is required first with a tv to change the mode to component, but it didn't take too long. The funny thing is the instructions reference the Wii as well as the PS3, insisting I only use this on a PS3, but that I then plug it into my Wii ;)

I have it set to 720p, my monitor can't do 1080i or 1080p.

The 3rd image has no MGS4 spoilers, I haven't played it yet, so I don't have them unlocked, its just the start of the timeline incase anyone is worried.

Man, I'm starting to wish I didn't sell my monitor. Even though 16:10 annoyed me to no end, the image was so much better than on LCD TV's.

Hey, which monitor is that (product code?)

And, have you noticed any input lag with it?

EDIT: removed the quoted pictures since it was unnecessary and Drachnir mistaked me for darkflight

Samsung has some very nice new monitors out that match with their new red line TV's. I'll be picking one up when I have enough money and use that.

Thanks MoxManiac for the details on the cable. My monitor can't do 1080 either. It's a Viewsonic VA1912wb. I'm also in search for a VGA cable that will work with that monitor since I'm planning on getting a PS3 next month and it looks like this is the one!

I have the Dell E228WFP 22" LCD and I just bought a HDMI-DVI adaptor and plugged in my HDMI cable to it.

So: PS3->HDMI cable->HDMI-DVI->monitor

LCD monitor must have HDCP enabled, or else the max resolution it will output will be 480p

Weird thing was that when I first hooked it up, it wouldn't let me change from 480p to 720p, next time I booted up my PS3, I was able to change to 720p.

Guys, are there any PC monitors that accept HDMI that also carries audio through the signal as well?

It is this one - VDigi PS3 to VGA cable

I haven't noticed any lag with it, one small vertical faint line, which you only really notice when its on a black screen.

This picture shows it off, end totals screen for MGS4, no spoilers, bar what one emblem looks like and is called.

I've upped the pics at the max size of my camera, so you can see the line as well as can be expected via a camera shot of a monitor.

I've just tweaked it a bit with the "phase" setting on my monitor, whatever the hell that does and its a lot less noticeable now, I did some googling when I first noticed it and other people seemed to have it too, people just on component, so I'm not 100% sure its a cable issue.

I am running the cable via a Belkin KVM with my 360 VGA cable, so there could be some interference due to that.

Here's a pic of the MGO main screen barely showing the line, (its inside the red box) after I tweaked the phase, I never noticed it playing MGS4 bar obviously black loading screens and as I said its less noticeable now, that's the only thing with it, so imho its a great cable.

Can I hijack this thread for a few posts? Don't wanna clutter the board with another thread about this.

It's a hooking the 360 to a PC Monitor. I know I can get a VGA cable on Ebay for the 360, but I am not sure if it would be worth it. I have a Syncmaster 204B, not widescreen, and I know the only way to display on the screen would be to play it at 720P. Would the upscaling to the native resolution (1600x1200) make things look bad and not worth it?

I guess it depends on your monitor, my 360 runs at 1280*768 (closest to a 16:10 res, 1280*800) and my native res is 1680*1050 and I think it looks great.

It's $279 with free shipping, but it's still a good deal. I bought one, and my PC/360/PS3 games look great

CLick it

holy shit this is perfect (hopefully reviews will be positive). I'm definitely waiting for this one since I use my monitor for my PS3. It has headphone inputs too. Now to decide if I should get the 21.5" or 24"...

I have to wonder though, will this mess with PC games that support only 16:10? What to do then? I do play PC games regularly.

I'm using a 1080p TV with my PC and finding 16:9 decent enough, most games that support 16:10 will support 1080p and if they don't it can usually be hacked in. www.widescreengamingforum.com usually has a solution.

I have my 360 connected to my 22" monitor at the moment because of renovations and its pretty astounding how much worse games look when you sit up close. Things in the distance looks very blurry and unfocused, probably because of the the little AF in most console games. Definately looking forward to going back to my TV =/

what resolutions does the monitor support? My 22" doesn't exactly do 720p or 1080p so games tend to look pretty bad. I'm not sure if they are actually that bad or if the monitor is fucking them up since I have nothing to compare with.

I received my VDigi PS3 VGA cable last night and hooked my PS3 to my Viewsonic LCD monitor. The monitor is not HDCP-compatible, but the cable worked anyways. The monitor's native resolution is 1440 x 900. First, I tried the 480p setting and it gave me a really nasty stretched image. I think the resolution was 640 x 480. So I tried 720p next and that looked much better. The thing is, in 720p, the image is shifted to the left and not centered. There is about an inch of the black screen on the right side. The cable's instruction sheet does say that in the 1280 x 720 resolution, the image might not display correctly with some monitors. Will this be a problem in the long run? I mean, if that's the best resolution the cable will allow me for my monitor, can I continue to play with that setting? All I did was center the image on the monitor. I just want to make sure I'm not damaging my monitor or PS3 in any way.

I'm now sort of curious about the HDMI to DVI cable hook up. But is that something a non-HDCP monitor cannot do though?

I have a Dell 2405 that does not have HDCP support. So the HDMI to DVI adapter will not work. I'm running it through component and it looks great, though. I can't get a 1080p signal which is too bad...but 1080i and 720p work great.

Knowing that HDMI will not work, would it be possible to bypass HDCP by using a component to VGA adapter instead, if you had a monitor without component inputs that was not HDCP compliant?

Your best bet in that case is a HDFury. It provides great IQ, introduces almost 0 additional input lag and supports 1080p. The drawback is that it's not exactly cheap, but it's great tech. There's the 2008 gamer edition which is slightly cheaper.

My TV has been sent for repair at Best Buy and I bought that HP2408H monitor and I can confirm the amazing amazingness of it. The only low point is the viewing angle, since it's a PC monitor but HOLY BATMAN 1080p looks awesome. 60fps games are displayed correctly thanks to the 5ms refresh rate, and the colors are just outstanding (a little red push though but you can adjust it).
And don't worry guys, the screen is 16:10, but you can select between full screen stretch, 1 to 1 and (the best option in the world) fit to aspect ratio.

Component cables for X360, PS3, and Wii come inside the box.

I have a 16:10 monitor. The slight vertical stretching isn't that noticeable or annoying, but it depends on the game.

I know this is old, but does this work in reverse? Our older TV's HDMI port went caput, and panasonic wants 400 to repair. We used to use the TV as a 53 inch monitor and currently I have it going via the svideo port which looks like ass.
