Hope Age ~ SUDA 51 PS3 Horror: Kurayami

YES before you ask I realize this is old...but I was just reminded of it and had to post something.

Scrapped? Probably.

Even so!

The eccentric Suda 51 harnesses the power of PS3 for a bizarre action/adventure inspired the work of existentialist writer Franz Kafka. In an unusual town full of odd locals, your stranded characters must explore the town and its castle to find a way out, using only his carried torch to light his way and to fend off the unexpected and unexplainable horrors that await. Advanced new lighting and graphic techniques are used to impress upon you the feeling of fear and loneliness (the tite "Kurayami" means "Darkness" in Japanese) as you venture through to the end of your quest.

The only thing ever made for this game was conceptual artwork.

I don't even know if Grasshopper have a PS3 devkit.

This didn't deserve a thread.

Updated OP

On SUDA 51 and PS3....I think it depends entirely on the publisher he can get. With a backing like capcom, he was able to make something as ambitious as Killer 7, same holds true for PS3

The game was never scrapped since it was only a concept to begin with, Suda has been showing interest in the 360 lately though, maybe a publisher will let him make his next-gen game someday.

SCE is pretty good at picking out interesting projects from independent developers so maybe they could pick it up.

He better start baking those cookies because no one is going to fund this.:lol
All right, here, tell you what weÂ’re going to do... We are going to stuff each one of these gift bags with concept art, some glitter, and a decorative hand soap. And weÂ’re going to send them to every publisher in town. And donÂ’t forget the funny notes.

Unlucky Nibris. This is cool, the art and setting sounds okay. Suda is enough to get my interest.

ETA on screens? project%?

remember this thing that looked really cool but isn't going to happen?

thanks guys :(
Another Wii fit victory! har har har

seriously though, the Wii probably really did kill this project. And the 360 to a lesser extent.

I remember seeing this game in EDGE magazine last year. It was the one with the big article on Suda 51 and Grasshopper studios. I'm quite intrigued by this game.

Probably dead.

The Castle is one hell of a book to base a game off of. Suda would have to come up with an ending as well, since the book ends mid sentence.

Never got past the concept stage. I guess Suda 51 has a bunch of game ideas that are that far along, the difference is that we know something about this one.

I love how everybody thinks there's no way this will get made given (a) Capcom repeatedly flushed money down the toilet with the Gamecube last gen, and (b) Suda 51 got the go ahead to make another game (No More Heroes) even after his last project was a commercial flop.

No news in a long time would tend to suggest this project is shelved, but suggesting it's anything to do with the PS3 is completely ignoring the company and director's history.

Suda said a while ago that he didn't have any PS3 projects at the moment. I think this was the same interview in which he said he was planning something for the X360. So, I think Kurayami was either put on hold or canned completly, or, changed into a Wii or a X360 game.

i think they wont develope this game for a while,

i think Capcom know this kind of game wont do too well (even its a really good game, see Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe)

and especially they are thinking of releasing on PS3, this game will bomb hard if they release it now

they should wait till the PS3 gets a bigger market share before they work on this project

Or port it over.....

But anyway, from the original artwork on this project it looks killer.

He could let the game simply not end.
