Just in case someone was wondering what the inside of it looked like.
Here's the front of the PCB where the dpad is.
What the back of the dpad piece looks like.
That's comforting, thank you. I remember I wanted to try the MK one from PDP a while ago. Glad I waited now for this one (heard that thing wasn't very good).
Nicely written impressions. I agree with your thoughts on the "top" shoulder buttons being awkward to hit. If I loosen up , then both rows "line up" nicely with my two fingers, but I don't want to hold it that way.

It doesn't look like the rubber membrane thingy is glued on. It looks like... connected through. I don't think I've ever seen that on a controller for something like this before (not that I'm an expert or anything...).

How did a cat hair get in there already?
Hori's Fighting Commanders have been the only third-party controllers I've been willing to use, and I've tried a number of them. The FCs are miles apart from Mad Catz's stuff. I actually think the previous model (FC4) is my preference between it and this, but this is also a very decent controller.
At this point, the FC4 and FC are the only controllers (from this era) I would consider to be legitimately alternatives to having a stick.

I got mine earlier this week, and posted some impressions in the arcade stick thread.
