Horizon: Forbidden West | Gameplay Reveal Trailer

First of all it's sylens...

And the blight plague can be absolutely related to what i wrote in the spoiler, maybe the cause is the same of what caused the troubles in horizon 1.

That was central part of the story, literally who started all the shit in the first one, there is no fucking way they can forget that plot point.

Shit you’re right lol, Sylens.

But I don’t think it was the central part of the story, HZD was about “how we got here” and a lot of the big reveals were that. And sylens was mostly guiding aloy towards the truth(tm).

Now the question is: what’s the conflict? Because destroying hades won’t fix the broken ai’s. What needs to be done to fix them or disable them.

I'm 99% sure that she is more talkative than usual just for this trailer, she wasn't that annoying in the first one.

Seems like it, but as someone already pointed out, the gameplay looks like they went with more linear level design this time around rather than a typical open-world game. Hard to judge by just on short gameplay, we will have to wait for another one to see later sections of the game.

It looks super nice, but the more fidelity increases the more you notice the things there are missing. Like for example, those raptors must weight half a ton and yet they walk on sand as if it was concrete - they neither sink their feet on it, neither kick up sand nor have it get stuck on their feet.

This is a cross gen game so it will come for PS4. When the PS4 and Xbox launched the Jaguar crap CPU was already bad and now 8 years later is worse. So there are limits of what physics the devs can put in the game.

This is what I grew up playing as a kid. Be grateful :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Pitfall? You ever play River Raid or Crystal Castles?

Is it just me or does Aloy look like CG? Seriously, i'm blown away by her character model and animations. There's also a nice glow look around her... it just looks too good to be true almost

It's because she isn't lit properly. Even in shady areas, she look almost the same as she does in sunny, open areas.

Graphically it looks amazing. But there is some strange stuff going on with the main protagonist.

She looks out of place, like not connected to the world. She doesn’t produce splashes when running through water (there are subtle ripples) where all the other characters produce them 🤷‍♂️ Could be an oversight, but the first game was the same. Doesn’t interact with vegetation (looks like in some places she does, but it could be wind) The spot light showing us her lovely hair looks weird, looks like a AO halo. (Ambient Occlusion)

Bar the above, looks beautiful.

Just rewatched the trailer in 4k.
The checkerboard artifacting (at least it looks like it) for a lot of the smaller moving details is pretty hefty, and once you`ve noticed it`s hard to ignore.
I`d honestly take native 1080p-1440p/60 over that artifact ridden pseudo 4k @30fps.

Could still be the stream compression though.

I loved everything about the first game but found it so incredibly boring and repetitive. I ha e up after like 7.hours
Tbh, most of these games take a little while to open up. I played about that amount of it not long after launch and then didn't play it for a month or so, then picked it up again and got addicted, eventually finding it to be one of my fave games of the gen. I really liked the sense of slowly working my way across the map and discovering all the different biomes like an explorer. The combat is ultimately repetitive but once you get it down along with more skills/tools, it's so tight that it's fun regardless..

There is no open world in existence without some small cinematographic location just for the story moments\setpieces.

I have absolutely no doubt that the open world is still there where you can fight 10 dinobots in your favourite way without being constricted by invisible walls.

Even the area in the demo looked pretty much open and sandbox-y to me, the player just followed the critical path to show the game.

Onestly the fear of some of you about the game being a collection of small room or similar shit is frankly absurd.

Dude

how in the hell is discovering who started the event of the first game not a gigantic plot point to resolve?
It's literally like we didn't even seen the real villain yet.

Hades was not a villain, it was just an IA going rogue because someone sent a signal that fucked up all the IA inside gaia, but we don't know who the hell that someone is, and the game does have some hints but for now it's just speculation

I'm gonna be hella mad if they forget that shit.

Ok it was an exageration, but i don't remeber any even slightly cinematografic open world with an actual story, cutscenes, voice acting etc. Without some smaller indoors location for heavy story moments.

Even zelda who has paper light story and chara has the ganon castle location.

I usually don't like talking about fake concern because sometimes what i say looks like that even if i'm genuine, but people fearing that a full fledged open world brand is not gonna have big ass open world locations sound exactly like fake concern.

It's like fearing that the new tekken game is gonna abolish kicks and only use hands for every character moves...

This lie again? They stated the game is open world in the video. Stop with the concern trolling.

They went a little crazy with the details, that's too much facial hair for a girl

My take is that you've never been with a woman then. It's called peach fuzz, everybody has it (Men, Woman, Children...). In most woman it's blonde / white-ish, in some it's darker.

That's one of the coolest effects I've seen in a long time, love it.

Well, she's a cavewoman after all, shaving tools haven't been invented yet ;p

Yeah I had to go back to check the ropecaster was still there because that elasti-catapult looks way more fucking effective. I just hope it's not locked behind loads of progression and upgrades.

Botw improvements?!

Please don't say the glider like botw invented it...

The smoke bomb is from GoT, no?

I maybe take things out of proportion, but imo melee still mix bag just like HZD. Maybe more RPG elements like that eletriv skill, but still avarage melle.

Watched the 4K stream now. Looked absolutely amazing. Holy fucking shit. And the combat, which I thought was the first games biggest strength, seems to be even more fun this time around. Very excited for this. Looks to be yet another first party banger.
There's loads of things they didn't show I reckon. For example, they spoke about a workbench for upgrading tools. The first game, at least as far as i remember, didn't have a workbench and the player would just upgrade their tools "on the fly". What does the workbench allow you to do besides upgrading your tools, can you stack unique upgrades on the tool in question to give it unique abilities (like the shockwave attack in the demo), what other unique possibilities does the workbench provide? There are underwater ruins, can you explore them, what unique exploration opportunities do they provide, what dangers lie in wait beneath those ruins and what loot do they provide?(if you can explore them). What unique component pieces do these new machines provide for you to salvage when you take them down in particular, the tremortusk, which is pretty much a tank? How about the skill tree system, it looks like they wanted to show more in terms of the combat, but something was holding them back(unique abilities they didn't show). How about the dialogue trees, how has GG improved them vs ZD? Loads of questions that we'll have to wait to get answers for and the excitement seems to get bigger for me. I can't wait to see more.

Looks amazing, I can nitpick some clipping or the rubble disappearing almost instantly, but I don't know how much of that is due to being crossgen (especially the rubble disappearing). Visually it just gets a lot right in terms of style and details, gameplay looks fun, climbing mechanics seems reasonable if not allowing climbing of everything (scanning and climbing during combat seemed easy flowing), hopefully we get more open areas.

It took a while for some to come up with complaints after that stellar show, but I am seeing some creativity here:
  • Aloy has facial hairs. (duh?)
  • Aloy talked too much. 0/10 game.
  • No interactivity with vegetation (there is)
  • Aloy's jaw is bigger / Aloy seems out of place / what's wrong with her model. (ummm ... nothing?)
  • 30 FPS (when GG hasn't even started talking about quality and performance modes, let alone denying the existence of the inevitable 60 FPS mode).
Kudos to the creativity and moving the goalposts.

My advice: Nitpicking doesn't do anyone any good. This game is looking fantastic. If you're interested, look at the positive side and enjoy the game when it comes. If you aren't and this trailer wasn't enough to convince you, I don't think anything will. So instead enjoy the games that you have been enjoying so far.

I mean, it' not like smoke granate was invented by tsushima...

But yeah, i'm not too hot about the melee, they need to show far more for me to be impressed.

Human combat still seems weak compared to dinobot combat.

P.s. i liked the facial hairs on aloy, it's a small detail but it does enhance the realism a whole lot.

Betaking, stop white knighting, diversity of opinion is encouraged here, did you come from the other place?
Yep... in my opinion, this is just a game. there are plenty of triangle face women to meet in real life. heck, the options are limitless on youporn. This is just art.

Doubtful we will see that same critical eye, when it comes to games on their favorite platform.

Anyway back on topic. The game looks breathtaking, love the beautiful color palate. I also like, the seemingly internal competition among the Playstation devs to outdo each other every successive release.
