Horizon Forbidden West story trailer

It would be strange that some area doesn't look like the first one because we will start in the same area than the first one and we will travel to the Forbidden West.
On the one hand that's fair enough, but on the other hand after 5 years I still would have liked some redesign. But if we won't spend much time at these places then fair enough again, no need for that, but I assumed from the videos that these locations will be part of the main areas.

Well I'm just throwing out stuff:

Yes I'm actually kind of expecting it to be quite different and advanced once you go deep in the west. There's definitely a reason why they are keeping the barbarians out of their civilized borders.

Also it's entirely possible that Odyssey never failed the mission but just suffered a communication failure with earth and they just assumed it failed.

I'm honestly leaning towards the theory that due to some reason, the appolo on this cradle in the west worked perfectly and as a result a civilized, educated, knowledgeable and mentally capable tribe emerged from it. When the rest of the world was basically trying to start fire, the people of the west were probably coding AI and realized that these other tribes are way far behind and it would be smarter to stay hidden from them.

Then some people (can't remember the guy from sun tribe) tried to head there and succeeded. And that probably was the wake up call for them. That these barbarians who fight among themselves will only bring trouble to their civilization and are a weak link to humanity. So they try to get rid of them. They are as smart/educated as the last humans, so they probably have knowledge of advanced technology. It could be that they reprogrammed the attack of Hades to only effect east. Once the wildlings are wiped off, their civilization can take over and make the world one again as it was supposed to be.

I'm sorry if this was too long.
The problem with all these theories is that only a small percentage of players know about the odissey stuff (or even more obscure stuff in the lore), so can guerrilla develop a sequel based on something that you read in an optional data-pad?!

I'm not a story-writer so i don't know the rules.

They can and should explain this in game cutscenes. That's like my biggest gripe from the first game. I shouldn't be finding out this on sidequest channel (even though it's pretty awesome), I should be getting this information from the game in a cutscenes as a story.

I also understand, in the first game they had to establish the world so they focused on that and tribe wars and culture etc. But now that it's out of the way, I really hope the meat of the story this time around is actually this kind of stuff because that's what's exciting and not some dude dancing over a dead machine and fighting mindless wars.

As a player I entered the world as a simpleton, figuring out stuff through Aloy just like Aloy did. By the end of the first game, we both, the main character and player learned everything, so now that stuff should be of the highest importance and we should go further deep into this. It would make the story a hundred times more interesting tbh. For me atleast.

BTW, i dont think they were the only ones. The directive likely came from Jim who was likely worried about both Miles and Horizon being cross gen so he commisioned pre-rendered trailers. Miles looked way better in the initial reveal too.

I remember making these gifs. The final game did not look as good.

For Demon SOuls, they mixed in the CG intro bits. Very deceptive.

An ancient tradition that doesn't need to continue.

I know exactly what you mean, but i guess that to progress a story with so many characters and intricacies, some tribe drama is a necessary evil, maybe the second game is just aloy recruiting an army of ex-enemies to fight the big bads in the third game?!
They can't hire angela basset to voice regalla if his character is a throw away villain...

talking about something else, this screen kinda confirms that MMA is a thing in the world of horizon, look at kotallo's ear and then look at aloy's ear.

I bet that he developed califlower ears doing wrestling in college :pie_invert:

I have a feeling that Regalla will be a sympathetic antagonist similar to Magneto or Killmonger. She won't be some one dimensional villian. Here is my theory.

I think that the Oydessey spacecraft just lost communication with earth instead of blowing up and the old ones are living on another planet that they inhabited. Over centuries they made the same mistakes they made on earth which leads to their planet becoming almost uninhabitable so they send out a crew to look for a new home. They happen on Earth which they thought was just a lifeless rock but has lush greenery and oceans which can be seen from space so they land and find a bunch of primitive tribes.

After they see all this nature and how the planet has recovered they decide that earth is their new home but all these primitive people must go so they hack the AI programs running the world and creating the machines in order to exterminate all the inhabitants. The place they land is in the Forbidden West where they meet Regalla who views them as the higher power mentioned in the trailer who help her defeat her enemies. They decide to use her to sow division amongst the tribes as a divide and conquer tactic and Sylens gets involved because of their technology which is beyond anything on Earth

They set up base on the coast which leads people to believe that they are a new tribe which explains that hidden and powerful tribe mentioned in the trailer. Sylens catches wind of what they really want to do and realizes that extermination also means him so he helps Aloy and her friends to capture some of their tech and reverse engineer it which is where his redemption arc comes from. /SPOILER]

Yes some tribe drama is definitely going to be featured and it would be perfectly fine as long as it's not the entire game with main stuff taking the backseat.

Yeah that Kotallo guy looks like has been in quite a few fights.

IMO Miles actually looked the same visually. I think MM has some of the best visuals ever made…

It really sucks to have a system seller game release and not have any PS5's to buy.

With shortages expected into 2023, I may just have to suck it up and get the digital deluxe version but odds are I'll be finished by then.

Regalla is allied with sylens, not the new tribe, they specified this in the article about the story trailer.

She is using him for revenge against the carja and everyone who is trying to stop her, and sylens use her for his misterious objectives.

I wonder how similar the gameplay loop is gonna be. More interesting sidequest please. Leave the time trial challenges in the trash and reward exploration more.

I am sorry but that was a weak ass "Story" trailer. Why is it so hard for writers to map a compelling stories in video games ?

Let me guess, its about survival. righting some wrongs. Fight the darkness that infests these sacred lands. pff

Lol i can understand the sentiment, if you wanna go balls deep into the lore, the channel that was posted by me and other guys in this topic is by far the best.
Thanks for the suggestion, I've spent an unhealthy amount watching those videos. But also...

CALLED IT! (well, part of it anyway)

It does look nice but I don't like the lighting it looks off, I can't work it out.
Most lightsources do not throw shadows or have static shadows, the bounce lighting seems very scaled down, contact shadows are often missing etc.
Basically a lot of the expensive but "realistic" dynamic lighting stuff that gives a picture depth is scaled down in favor of geometric density.
Look at a comparison video of Metro Exodus Base with RT off and Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition then it should become apparent what`s missing.

The very first reveal trailer imho looked much better from a lighting standpoint with the lowpoint of the material we`ve seen so far being the bar-scenes where the lighting is just very off and some objects look just outright flat.
Ofc this being an open world game it is probably impossible to have every nook and cranny perfectly polished as long as the hardware can`t handle "natural" RT driven lighting everywhere.

After seeing the meet the cast video I can now see why Aloy looks so different to the face model.
Literally all her expressions are of that of the the voice/mo-cap actress.
They probably shouldn't have done that.
If you use someone for the face model you should use them as the mo-cap too.
The voice can be easily changed.
Or alternatively used the voice actress for all of it.
