The Horizon games were unironically birthed from some meticulous and artificial market research that Hulst has full certainty and confidence in. Its the gaming equivalent of a "test tube child". Something about this series just does not feel quite "authentic" in a sense.

I liked the first Horizon, but that's the most perfect way to describe the franchise, especially Forbidden West.

I still insist that the worst decision they made was explaining what happened to the planet and who Aloy's "mother" was by the end of the first game. Without that mystery hanging over the franchise everything else just falls flat. A slow burn of finding everything out over multiple games would have been great.

That and not going full retard mode in the sequel by introducing literal evil space billionaires as the main villains.
