Horizon Zero Dawn is boring

I thought this at first, in fact I boiled it down to pretty graphics with Farcry UI. It took awhile but 80+ hours later I question whether the game as a whole might be better than Breath of the Wild. HZD has a lot more freedom than you realize it just takes a bit of leveling/grinding to get to a point where you're self sufficient that the game is completely your choice.

The game and the conclusion of the story is so brilliant that of all last years titles this is worth sticking it out for. As the biggest anti-DLC guy on the planet, I liked this game so much I played through that as well and would consider it worth the purchase.

I had a ton of fun with it and I generally get bored easily. Maybe it's just not for you. Plenty of other games around.

Thanks for the post because I find your opinion insane and it reinforces that I'm not as jaded as I think I am.

HZD is amazing.
Don't bother with God of War while you're at it.

same as Hinedorf Hinedorf

I wasn't really feeling Horizon at all, I only stuck with it because some friends said I'd really like the story, and I'd paid money for it. Eventually though it gets there, to the point where I'll pick the dlc up at some point.
I do think half the problem is with the combat, if it was a bit easier and instinctive to do some of the flashier stuff, or if taking the machines apart had a bit more payoff (some blow up for huge damage, some still have multiple deadly weapons to kill you with and barely flinch), then I think it would make for a better game

Sadly i thought the same. Could only play 10h. It's a beautiful game but not for me, aiming based combat and me don't go together :( , i need like extra extra aim assist, i suck at shooting anything.
God of War however, i can get into. Got the platinum last week but i'm still playing it!

Im sure I'll go back to it at some point, but it's been about 6months and I stopped even before the end of the tutorial. Granted I hate cutscenes and not a big fan of open world games.

Agreed. 100%. Typical overhyped ps4 exclusive. Especially after playing Zelda BotW makes horizon so boring.

I could spend hours just hunting HZD it's one of those games that always presents something for you to do, Boring and HZD don't go together.
It may not be your cupa tea but if it ain't then other games I know you like wouldn't be either.
Maybe give it a little more time.
But thanks for another insightful thread.

The combat is where this game really shines, maybe try turning up the difficulty if you haven't experienced the awesomeness of it yet.

I don't know why, but imo Sony's exclusives tends to always be praised. I get it, they are just not for me, but it baffles me that no matter what they throw out it gets praised a lot.

Sometimes you wonder if it would get the same amount of praise if it was another platforms exclusives.

I know this post can be read the wrong way. I find it good for those who really enjoy those exclusive games Sony puts out, I can't just not see why they get this tremendous amount of praise when they aren't godsend.

that's how i felt in the beginning, but i forced myself to play it for more hours and i enjoyed it, it's really an amazing game, yes it's nothing special other than that the enemies are robot dinos, it's pretty much a Far Cry clone, but it's still amazing, keep playing and it will click with you if you like Open world games because Horizon: ZD is one of the best Open world games you can play on the PS4

Gaf is gonna eat you alive for this

i 100% agree with you, i mean i liked the game and consider it the best Sony new IP since TLOU (Bloodborne is Demon's souls 4), but there is no way it could be compared with Masterpieces like Witcher 3 and Zelda: BOTW and i have seen people compare it to them which is nonsense

if Sony releases a good game, the media will consider it a masterpiece, i mean how the fuck does a boring as fuck and repetitive as fuck game like Hellblade gets praised ? i consider that garbage one of the worst games ever made and i got the platinum for that trash

i have yet to play GOW 4 and see why is it praised so much, i'm sure it's a great game, but one of the greatest of all time ?? doubt

I really enjoyed it, personally. I was going through open world fatigue when I played it, but still thought it was great.

Because they generally have insane production values with cutting-edge technology while being really polished games. Horizon is not my favorite either but I can't deny its merits.

I like how GOW has much, much, much better exploration than HZD even tho it's not open world. In GOW it actually trust the players to find things on their own and rewards them for it. HZD in other hand doesn't really trust players to find anything on their own even for Tallnecks or Cauldron and the game doesn't really rewards you with anything like armour set, weapons or secret boss fights, no.....absolute nothing.

I couldn't get into it either, gave it 8 hours or so. To be fair I don't think I've been able to get into many open world games.
I haven't tried BOTW yet. I much much prefer what GOW offers, so much tighter and rewarding to me.
The story is pretty cool though I watched the 'movie' on youtube.

I was considering to buy it for a while, especially after all the praise it got after release. The gameplay looks smooth and fun but there's just something about the world that doesn't speak to me. Aloy doesn't feel like an interesting character and I don't really like the neo-stone age setting. I can see why people like it, but it isn't for me.

Seems like xbox fans just found this thread as an oportunity to come and try and shyt on playstation exclusives.

I agree with you there. I loved HZD back when I played it, but honestly looking back at it, it feels like such an inferior game to GoW in most ways.

Knack and the order 1886 says hi.

Different strokes I suppose, I couldn't get into Witcher 3, thought it was incredibly boring, awful combat and the story wasn't worth sticking around for either.

LOL

Seriously though, Ratchet up the difficulty and the combat is fun with some epic battles, most open world games the combat is crap.

Great game. Personally, I really loved the setting and the world design and quite enjoyed the combat. But for some reason Aloy just didn't click with me as a character.

I might pick it up again and give it another shot at the end of this gen as I would like to experience the story at some stage. I may have just been in the wrong frame of mind when I was experiencing it for the first time.

The combat is really good (minus fighting humans), the story is decent and I had fun exploring the world. It is my favorite game of this gen so far.

I share your sentiment OP. While I do think the combat is good, the world just gets repetitive. Not a bad game, but it certainly didn't light my world on fire, and I wiah it had less bloat. Beautiful game, though

Give me a break OP, at least back up your stance with some reasoning if you're going to throw around statements like that. What makes it boring? Why?
This is like the third or fourth thread you've made recently with a one-line opening post and little in terms of substance. Put a bit of effort in...

Edit: And there's the inevitable like that everybody gets for even posting in the thread. Seriously, this is becoming a schtick now.

Great game. Interesting sci-fi story. Amazing graphics and atmosphere. Fun gameplay.

I'm gonna have to disagree with you OP.

I'd say the following games were considered, at best, decent. Some considered poor.

Drive club
Infamous second son
Killzone shadow fall
Knack
The Order 1886
The Last Guardian

I traded in my copy this past week I tried to like it but could not get into it I have come to realization that open world games may not be my thing I prefer linear games. If the complete edition drops to under $20 on black friday I might give it another chance.

I found it underwhelming at first but when you unlock better weapons the combat gets much better. Them vibrating arrows are so fun when they blow bits off the robots. The story also picks up nicely, but yeah. After playing GOW there's nothing that WOW's in this game.

I was impressed at first but the graphics and the cool robos. Once that wore off I wanted to be done with the game asap. The story is very cool, but not delivered very well IMO. The characters are lifeless when you speak to them. The main character I found aesthetically weird and unpleasant, probably because I'm spoiled by how likeable tomb raider is. The other problem with horizon is that if youve played tomb raider, you know tomb raider does all the gameplay aspects better. The one major red flag for me in horizon is the horrible platforming sections. Just absolutely unnecessary and poorly done. The dino bot concept was fresh and very well realized, and overall it's a competent package, but I would give it no more than a high 7 or low 8 for not hitting the nail on the head in many of the gameplay aspects.

I can't play this game... Beautiful graphics but the game is so booooooooring... OMG!

Yeah I grew bored of it very quickly , I rushed to the end just to get over and done with skipped most side missions and traded it in for another game that most likely is now sitting on my shelf un-finished.

So at least I finished it can't say that about most games.

I have mixed feelings about this one. On one hand, story and overall presentation is pretty nice, but the gameplay...

Mobility is kinda clunky, you can't really climb stuff besides the walls with yellow marks, sometimes you can't even jump small obstacles; although combat is an interesting concept, it seems that you're given too many, sometimes complex, tools that are hard to use during the very fast paced combat sequences (and the slow down option sometimes will even make you miss shots); hitboxes also bothered me, especially against bigger enemies.

It seems to me that HZD would have been a near perfect game if devs decided to give you less tools and ammo and actually focused on mobility, pacing, positioning, making less, but more effective weapons...

Took me a while to get into it but I really enjoyed it after that. Its up there with the witcher 3 as the best open world game of the generation.
Once you get the slingshot it becomes a lot more fun.... Slingshot mixed with traps, arrows and ropecaster is awesome.

I found it beautiful, but like many AAA games it felt like it was designed and written by a committee for an already mined-out YA focus group. It showed promise but everything was irredeemably bland. It's like they got all of these talented people together to create this hollow thing that looks beautiful & creative but ultimately has no heart whatsoever. Destiny 2 is the same way. If you just stand there and just look around in the game, you can see that there are some exceptionally talented artists on board yet all of their hard work was funneled into a big, boring slab of tofu.

(Full disclosure: I only played around 4-5 hours. Maybe it got better, but it just didn't grab me).

Don't bother with God of War while you're at it.

So he can't share his opinion and now you needlessly need to add another exclusive to not play because you think he doesn't like Sony exclusives? If Horizon is a must play and everyone else is insane then sure it would have sold more than 10-15% of its audience.

Opinions are like assholes, well, you know...but that's ok, not every game's redeemable factors will be appreciated by everyone. For me, destiny's game world could look like Legos and I'd still play it because as a fan almost exclusively of console shooters, it's gunplay is the main draw.

I know what this is about... you're saying it doesn't have a soul because she is a ginger. Well, gingers do have souls!

I also didn't really find the story engaging. The graphics are great and the mechanics are really well designed, but I couldn't keep interest in the setting or characters for some reason 😕

I still plan to give it another go at some point.

I think I barely got out of the intro before giving up on it. I'm going to give it another try though, because I've seen several things (including in this thread) that seem to imply that the beginning of the game doesn't give a good idea of how it ends up playing.

I saw a video showing "Stealth Takedowns" or something similar, and it mentioned how crazy it was that this was a skill to unlock in a skill tree instead of just being there in the beginning. I wonder how something like The Witcher 3 would play if the ability to dodge (at all) was a skill that needed to be chosen and unlocked.

Thread looks like bait but I never wowomgz'd at it either. The leveling and combat are pretty fun and the environments are really cool to traverse.

The story and characters can go sit on a fence, most annoying and pretentious ancient civilization story expression I've experienced. The whole undertone of classism and haves and have nots is very poorly executed too. Rolled my eyes out of my skull for the first few hours of story. And what the Fidel Castro is with her name being "A-loy" and not "alloy". Come on now, you're just kicking the sands of pretense in my face.

The combat is really cool though and has kind of a real time vats going on. For that I forgive its garbage story.
