C'mon! That death's on par with the Prime Time television death from Nightmare on Elm Street 3! (but not with the penis-carpet monster).

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 was probably the best sequel in NOES series - definitely the best death scenes~

It's my favorite in the series.

Fuckin Suspiria
Indeed. But I noticed the man wants realistic horror. So I don't think Suspiria will get to him to same way it did to all of us.

But still...fuckin Suspiria! :lol

Well, went on a horror film spree the last couple of weeks and bought a number of films that was recomended from various sources, a few thoughts on them, maybe it'll help.

Pulse (the 2006, western version) - To be honest I just bought it for Kristen Bell but I'd seen it before and it was ok I guess, again Bell :)
Creep - Had it's creepy moments, not really scary but I was somewhat entertained at least.
Session 9 - Again, not really scary but unsettling and worth a watch imo
The Changeling - Not really scary but not a bad film overall I think.
The Beyond - Sucked, not a single scary scene in the whole film but still not as mindblowingly boring as...
Suspiria - Kill me now, I was counting the minutes until the stupid thing ended... I don't think I've ever been so unscared in my life. Going to the bathroom at night is more exciting than this.
Tenebrae - More of a thriller/mystery I guess but I liked it, some nice camera work in there.
One Missed Call - Got to admit these type of films creeps me out, had some scary moments and if you lilke the ring movies it's in the same vein.
One Missed Call 2 - Not as good as the first but somewhat worthwhile.
The Eye - It was ok, far less scary than I had thought from what I heard about it but I didn't regret seeing it.
A Tale of Two Sisters - Saw this one last night, really like it. Beautiful scenery and all that, and some scary moments and general feeling of unease. Best of the lot I think.

So in conclusion, "Horror" movies are almost never scary and the good ones are far and few between.

My God. What the fuck? Sorry...but...What the fuck?

I liked Fallen (with Denzel). It's more of a thriller/horror but it was pretty damn awesome back in the day.

I never listened to that Rolling Stone's song they had in the movie the same way after I saw this flick :lol

HELLRAISER! (The second one's good, too. And the third. And the fourth has good mytho stuff.) Clive Barker needs to get on the ball about writing that remake!

My faves are probably Ringu including the remakes which I loved, House, and It's Alive.

OK, in fairness that last one is probably awful.

They just finished shooting a remake by the original director. Also, I own the It's Alive three-pack. :lol

The third one? Nooooooo.

It goes 1,5,2,3,6,4,8,7.

And yes I've seen them all :p

Too funny. I actually really like this series as well. and I agree for the most part about your order! lol. 5 did indeed kick ass!

Your taste in horror is filled with modern superserious crap-- Try some of these instead:

American Werewolf in London- Seen it. Love it
Romero's zombie movies- Most are good but there are some crap.
All Nightmare on Elm Street flicks- Only like part 1. The rest are shit.
Freddy vs Jason - Pure shit
Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween H20- All of these are good. Love them
Evil Dead 2- Awesome flick, though the original Evil Dead is my favorite
The Toxic Avenger- Meh
Return of the Living Dead- Decent
House- Decent
Hellraiser, Hellraiser III- Hellraiser is an awesome series for the most part. I wouldn't rate 3 at the top though.
Dolls- Never seen it. Added to the list.
Grindhouse - Haven't seen this yet either and it's killing me to wait for the DVD! =_(

..

No mention of the greatesat horror movie ever made yet?

You people sicken me.

Watch "The Shining" the greatest horror movie ever, and if anyone says different that are fuckin tards.

The Shining
Black Christmas (The original. The remake was possibly the worst movie I've seen in years.)
Serpent and the Rainbow
Jacob's Ladder
Rosemary's Baby
The Hunger
Suspiria

I haven't been able to tolerate anything else from the genre.

i've just read the novel from alan dean foster which was based on the original script and damn, they would never manage to do the movie that way even if they had more 20 million dollars which i think was the budget for the movie.....it's very interesting because it explains a bit more of the damn creature.....

Did you see my thread about Midnight Meat Train?

Serpent and the Rainbow

Doffs cap to the OP - great, great movie!

Whilts it's not really 'horror' per se, I would recommend Nic Roeg's Don't Look Now - a truly haunting masterpiece.

Other recommendations:-

A Tale of Two Sisters
The Eye
Alien
Halloween

I will never understand GAF's infatuation with Event Horizon. It's a mediocre science fiction movie and a cliche-filled horror movie. About the only mildly disturbing imagery is the skinned dude, and Hellraiser's sequels have phoned that in with better results.

Also, I'm going on record as saying that Argento is overrated. Suspiria's last moments are pretty good at getting under your skin, but it's not worth sitting through the whole movie. I'd call it dull, but then I'd need to think of something worse to say about Tenebre.

All of that said: Finding genuinely good horror is pretty hard. There's:

1408
Alien
Carrie
Evil Dead
Friday the 13th (Everyone should see the original, it's not nearly as campy and comic as every sequel that came afterwards.)
Halloween
Hellraiser
Night of the Living Dead (Required viewing, period.)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (see note on Friday the 13th)
The Ring
Scream
The Shining
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
The Thing

And I'll tack Freddy vs. Jason onto the list because there's so much fanwanking that it's impossible to hate one second of it. :)

Onibaba
Kwaidan
Session 9
The Abandoned
Hour of the Wolf
Who Can Kill a Child?
Cold Prey (Fritt Vilt)
My Little Eye
Behind the Mask
Deep Red
Eyes Without a Face
Black Sabbath
It's Alive / Island of the Alive (not crazy about the second one, but 1 and 3 are nice)
Maniac Cop
Candyman

How is it? Would you recommend it to a fan of the movie?

How the hell have we gone 80 posts without someone mentioning The Omen?

What the hell is wrong with you people? It's a goddamn masterpiece.

Sanguis Bibimus....

I think its almost obligatory.......just a tease, remember the dogs that were killed by blair in the movie???well here they escape.....

Already mentioned, but The Descent is pure awesomeness. Might be the best "pure fright" movie I´ve ever seen.

And I will never understand the hate that Event Horizon is still receiving on the internet.

Saw Dead Birds yesterday and although it's been mentioned before I thought I'd gve a heads up as it was pretty neat, my one gripe was that it felt a bit short. Kinda think it would've benefited from another twenty minutes or so. But what do I know? :)

EDIT:

Actually I'm gonna go ahead and ask for some more specific recomendations myself. What I'm looking for is actually SCARY horror movies (obviously it's all relative to whomever is watching, I know). What I'm looking for is movies somewhat like the ring, grudge and so on. Those damn films really creep me out a lot (the "I don't need to go to the bathroom" kind of creep me out...)

You guys kick ass! There are so many movies to check out! Back to my original post though, do any of you know of a good horror review site I can use for reference when interested in a movie? I mainly want a reviewer who is really into this stuff... Thanks!

btw- I'm watching Zodiac right now. Great flick!

Lots of Dario Argento stuff in here and that's just fucking awesome. The third part of Three Mothers supernatural-horror trilogy (Suspiria, Inferno) finishes this year around October when The Third Mother releases in Europe, though I've not seen anything about a US release yet. I'm excited for it as it's been twenty-seven years since Inferno's release.

Bird with the Crystal Plumage is also a very good early Argento flick, though it does probably fit more into the thriller genre than the more horror leanings of a lot of his later work. I also really liked Trauma and Terror at the Opera.

Mother of Tears is the name of the third one and it looks deliciously fucked up.
Ah thanks for the correction and, yes, it does look pretty freaky. I'm hoping Argento's still got it in him for feature work after all these years...he's almost 70 now.

He's that old? Wow. But I trust him to deliver.

Since you seem to like these slasher/revenge type flicks you should probably see "Last House on the Left"

I'd also recommend "Going to Pieces" It's a recent documentary on the rise and fall of slasher films. It covers a lot of movies from the 70's and 80's you've probably never heard of, full of gore, and it's actually pretty interesting to boot.

Captivity is supposed to have some Elisha Cuthbert skin action...so that could potentially make it awesome?
