Fine picks except for It, which is just too creepy for me since i can't stand Clowns :(

You should add "Follows" to It :D

But It Follows has been suggested before so it's well covered :>

(i have seen it and it was cute :3)

And for Asian ones: I Saw the Devil and Noroi

I Saw The Devil made me feel sad and depressed afterwards it was so dark! :O

And you should have voted for It Follows because we want it to win :p ("We" being me and anyone else with awesome taste)

....sorry jobbsie, i just saw It Follows and i dont feel like rewatching it again so soon .___.

pinkboy, if you nominate Eraserhead, I'd throw in withchu~ that movie is super cute *___*

My first choice is Halloween followed closely by Night of The Living Dead.

Yeah I throw a second vote to Night of the Living Dead. While I prefer Dawn and Day Night is the most important to the history of horror in film and worthy of in depth discussion. Plus the black and white actually makes the effects hold up better than Dawn which is important in a group watch.

according to my calculations the top three nominees currently are:

1. Trick R Treat
2. The Thing
3. It Follows

pretty interesting selection so far!

The Shining is probably my favorite horror movie of all time and I haven't watched it in a while so I will vote for that.

I've never seen Dead End so that would be cool too.

The Thing - What hanst been said a million times about this film already? it is even set in the cold which is perfect for this time of the year, so many awesome creature designs, who could forget the damn head dropping off the table and scuttling away as a damn spider-type creature, or the dogs, or the chest tearing apart.

Oh and the ending, i always wanted a follow up, by carpenter but instead we got a prequel.

The best part because it's not set on a holiday time period you can watch it at any time of the year without it feeling like it's for say halloween only, although it's still perfect for Halloween

Hellraiser - Those designs on the cenobites in the first film, man they are still twisted to this day, the whole film is twisted, though it could do with being updated by Clive Barker himself, i believe someone else is doing the new one yet again, damn i was hoping one day Clive would get to go back to it.

Curiously, I woke up today with a sudden and random urge to watch Little Shop Of Horrors. Been.. shit, 15, 20? years since I last watched it. Fond memories but honestly I have no idea how it'd stand up today and I actually don't recall all that much about it. My young mind had it filed away under "great songs" and "sporadically gruesome."

While I loved the costume design of the Cenobites, I thought this movie was going to be about them as the main focus of terror. They play such a minor role in the film in my opinion and the horror is dredged out through the corpse upstairs. I kind of hated Hellraiser because I was expecting Pinhead to be the haunting terror.

it's a shame those japanese movies are not popular enough around here to make it to the top 5 but they all seem very interesting. will probably watch out of line, thx!

seems like Shining and Hellraiser are tied rn.

I've got a nice queue to get through by Oct.31, including

Halloween 1,2, and 3 (yes 3 is good), and H20

Texas Chainsaw

The Fog

Seen them all except The Fog.

Woops misunderstood the point of this thread. Anyway those are my nominations, then.

ahem.... throwing in my .02 so listen up

EVENT HORIZON

this is non-negotiable

They need to update the cgi...it looks like ass nowadays which is too bad because I love this movie. To be fair it might be the version Netflix has though. The debris floating in the connecting section looked terrible.

I forgot about this little gem Dead End, theres some humor in there too. Worth a watch.

I'd second Dead End. Or fourth it now? It's definitely worth checking out.

They is another good one.

And Exhumed.

And Antiviral.

And Ex Machina.

And The Devil's Backbone.

And Evil Dead 1/2/Army Of Darkness.

And Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil.

And American Mary is alright.

And A Tale of Two Sisters.

Could probs think of some others.

I actually own High Tension on dvd cuz a coworker gave it to me but I only watched it once like 10 years ago. I don't remember much but I remember wondering why that person thought to give it to me and hoping it was a regifting.

I remember High Tension being great right up until the end. Then it did something that didn't make any sense. So it went from awesome to meh in a blink.

I just finally watched Trick 'r Treat and I LOVED IT!

I tend to not like realistic gory super serious modern Horror but I always loved Creepy Spooky Atmospheric horror that had some good dark comedic elements.

Its why I enjoyed Nightmare on Elm Street as a series more then Friday the 13th.

So whats some other Good spooky but fun horror, I think Screams kinda like that , Original Fright Night was good that way. Anything Tales from the Crypt had it too and of coarse the Evil Dead trilogy.

Or The Babadook. I haven't seen it because no will watch it with me. :(

The Babadook is great, you should watch it on your own. I saw it solo first, then got to watch it with friends over and over.

I would say The Babadook is almost perfect except for 3 things.

1. The police are dismissive in a way that reminds me of crappy horror movies.
2. The dog getting killed was dumb and is basically ignored in the end.
3. The monster being definitively real and also shown. The prior ambiguity was excellent.

I've got 2 films on my Netflix list that I really want to see: Pandorum and Below. Which one should I watch today and which tomorrow lad and lasses?

YesNO, I miss you and your wonderful personality!! D:

aaaaaaaaa i miss u too batsie <3 where have u been~

ahem.... throwing in my .02 so listen up

EVENT HORIZON

this is non-negotiable

How about High Tension? I'm curious to see what people think of it.

Or The Babadook. I haven't seen it because no will watch it with me. :(

hapro~ i'd watch the babadook with you~ it's very australian, you shall see. the house's architecture and everything <3

.... and i havent seen high tension. thanks for dropping it! :D

I did 31/31 last year, not sure if I'll be able to do it again this year.

Definitely have The Wailing and Train to Busan on my list to start off with though.

Friday the 13th is my all time favorite series, so that gets my vote (2 is my personal favorite).

okay....so looks like for 5th place a couple of movies are tied. I'll let the first post to respond to this decide which one it's going to be:

Halloween
Halloween 3
The Shining
Dead End
