CAIRO, June 19 (Reuters) - Hosni Mubarak, who ruled Egypt for 30 years until overthrown by a revolution in the "Arab Spring" last year, was declared clinically dead by his doctors on Tuesday, the state news agency MENA said in a report confirmed by a hospital source.

Mubarak was 84 and had been sentenced to life in prison earlier this month.

Died of a broken heart.

By the way, what's the difference between "dead" and "clinically dead"? If we're now told someone is merely "dead", are we not supposed to trust it?

I wonder if the current military figures and politicians running Egypt at this point are breathing a sigh of relief at this point. This is a very convenient time for him to pop his clogs.

This is kind of a trend isn't it? Major elderly wealthy media fixture is sentenced to jail and dies soon afterwards.

Makes me wonder

1) whether they commit suicide and it's untraceable on an autopsy
2) whether they've gotten so used to a rich lifestyle they literally cannot live like a prisoner even in the cushiest prison and their bodies just fail on them

Or 3) You only get ousted from power/wealth when you are too infirm to cling to it.

Yeah serious, what the hell happened? That was incredibly fast.

Hrmm....announcing this on the night where protestors are taking to the streets to demand the military give up power? Coincidence? </tinfoilhat>

Clinical death is the term used when blood flow (heart has stopped beating) and breathing has stopped.

There are some differences between clinical death and death. You can be resuscitated if you are clinically dead.

I imagine that if he was ill while in power he would have been recieving the very best treatment available. Not so much when not in power.

or he's 84 and 84 year olds keel over pretty much at random.

"Congratulations, you're in great health for your age! Some of your organs are operating at as high as 15% of their regular capacity!"

Egypt was better off with him than what they are going to get now

The man ruled Egypt for 30 years, brutally stifling any political opposition, clinging to power at 83 and refusing to modernise the country or at least prepare it for his succession. The way he left his nation is entirely his responsibility.
