But imagine just how much faster she would have been with the Microsoft Kinect™

Seriously, if she was in a position to write a help message couldn't she have used anything besides a Pizza Hut app?
That's the only app that would have her home address in it.

You may know a lot of people through apps. Hell, you may have alot of friends, but they probably don't know your address, only where you live by sight.

She had two kids to feed. They were probably hungry too.

Personally given the circumstances I feel that Pizza Hut should have waived the convenience fee.

Couldn't she just have texted someone, kidnapper was obviously not looking at what she was doing since he let the message slip through.

It seems the only reason they took it seriously is because she ordered the usual and was a regular customer whom they probably formed a friendship with.

So it was smart of her to attempt it in this way. Especially since you can't check the history of a pizza app's comments. Or rather you wouldn't think to.

Good thing the boyfriend was too stupid to realize comments sections exist or that they could be used in that way.

Pretty clever. I swear I've read a similar story where someone phoned up a pizza place and ordered in a way to get help. Anyone know what I'm on about? :L

There's a story about a woman who told her violent boyfriend that she was going to order a pizza, but actually called 911. The operator figured out what was going on and dispatched the cops. It was originally posted to Reddit but got picked up by the news later and eventually got adapted into a Super Bowl commercial. Here's the original story:

Edit: apparently this was also an ad on Norwegian TV four years before the Reddit post so who knows if it's true or not.

Kevin James and Adam Sandler are already on board.

Kevin James and Adam Sandler are best friends that work in a pizza place. Sandler finds his life boring and decide to become a cop and take training. Pratfalls and slapstick with his friend abound. The Angry Captain is subject to most of the slapstick as he is forced to watch Kevin James flail around the other trainees. Sandler partakes in making other people trip as well.

Sandler finds Love Interest but she has a Violent Boyfriend. Love interest also has a Kid that loves pizza. Sandler and Kid kick it off perfectly. She falls in love with Sandler.

Kevin James and Sandler both pass training (Kevin James becomes a cop) but Sandler is ultimately forced to leave when he pissed off Angry Captain. He goes back to the pizza place and breaks off his relationship with the girl out of shame. Love Interest confronts Violent Boyfriend and wants to break up with him so she can be with Sandler and Violent Boyfriend gets angry.

Sandler gets a pizza order and discovers that it has "911 send help" on it. He writes it off as a prank but goes deliver it anyways. Kevin James is off-duty and accompanies him. They find out that the house was Love Interest's. Sandler spots Violent Boyfriend attacking Love Interest. Kevin James calls for back-up and busts into the house.

Sandler fidgets outside. Kevin James manages to rescue Kid but Violent Boyfriend has Love Interest. Sandler pops in and throws a hot pizza into Violent Boyfriend's face and saves the day. The police and Angry Captain arrive to arrest Violent Boyfriend and he is impressed with Sandler's skill and asks him to rejoin the force. Sandler declines and says some corny line about family or something.

Oh yeah, there's also a rival pizza shop ran by Rob Schneider.

That was very clever. Harsh situations make you come up with the most creative of solutions it seems. Can't say I would have thought of that but it's good to know they were released unharmed.

Kidnapper was stupid as f..., also was her boyfriend wtf at stories like this...
Let's face it, he was being dumb long before he gave her the phone for a brief minute. There's nothing smart about starting this situation in the first place. She played it well finding a moment to sneak a message through and not get caught.

Oh damn, this story wasn't real?

Read the article. He would have checked her texts

He wasn't monitoring her enough to catch her typing the help text from within the pizza app. Seems like she could have sent a help text through another (non obvious/standard ios) app with messaging functions too. Maybe he was hovering over her to make sure it was only the pizza app she was using, but not paying enough attention to how she was using it. The type of stupid you'd expect from a person that holds hostages.

Exactly. I'm sure he was only checking to make sure she was ordering a pizza like she said she was, and she was using the "comments section" to dictate the order to him, but was actually asking for assistance.

It's smart of her to play that against him.

Yeah, I got that part. If he was monitoring her, she wouldn't have been able to write that help message without him noticing. But I suppose she had a small window of opportunity, and it would have been safer than opening another app.
I imagine this guy isn't like a professional kidnapper. He was like "sure, use the phone, but you only better be using the pizza hut app". He can see from a few feet away she is using the app, but it would be hard to notice in the last screen in a little textarea her typing a quick message in 10 seconds. He might also be illiterate.
