Love the dynamics betweeen new girl and house. So amusing.

Agreed. And the dynamic she brings is much needed. Everything has been just a little too cosy with the team since Cameron quit. Too bad she isn't replacing Thirteen permanently, really. Yes, I said that shit. Obviously, Thirteen needs to come back so we can see her die in glamorous heart-breaking fashion like CTB, but Tamblyn's character is the better long-term choice.

I don't get why cuddy was SO disappointed at the end. Seems like something you shrug off considering House saved the guy.

Like House said, he had lied to her 10,000 times, but really the first time as a couple. Pretty big lie too... faking a test to get the treatment for someone. Sure, he was right, but it completely undermines her as a boss and probably doesn't really help that ol' trust factor.

Liked this episode the best so far this season. The dynamic b/w the new girl and house is indeed interesting. Hope the "oh noes he lied!" thing doesn't go on for too long.

First episode of the season that actually held my attention all the way through. Love the new girl too.

same. the new girl was the best character since kumar/kuttner. way better than talb and 13

I think Amber Tamblyn has been great so far! I've never really liked 13s character so her being gone isn't a big deal to me. Hoping she's back assuming there is another season which I assume will be the last. I know 13 will be back so just wondering
who gets fired from the team when she does come back. Only spoilering it out since I think(?) there have been rumors someone gets fired multiple times.

They have an easy out with Amber Tamblyn because she's a student. She can always go back to school full time or get an assignment elsewhere.

Decent episode but you would think House would have considered all the diseases similar to small pox in his initial diagnosis.

Also, ending the episode with the same conflict as the previous episode was really disappointing.

I'm really hoping 13 doesn't return for more than a few episodes. Her character sucks and the actress playing her isn't all that talented.

This is true, but Cuddy wants her in the hospital since she's a "star". I want them to keep her and axe 13 officially and let her go off and do movies. I don't have anything against the actress.... just really hate the character.

Also, about the diagnosis... I was thinking the same thing. It's like they lost the whole differential aspect of the show in that ep. Isn't the point of House and his team that they figure things out that other doctor teams can't? Sure, people die, but that entire situation seemed like something House and/or his team would have figured out before the guy dies.

I think the conceit was that the CDC was cockblocking them and they couldn't diagnose/rule out diagnoses as quickly while being hampered, the differential came eventually, but only in the most roundabout way as they had such limited to the patients, where normally they're their playthings.

Yeah, having them not get the entire translation of the captain's log immediately was pretty dumb.

Meh episode about smallpox was meh
As good as Amber was in last ep, she wasn't that great in this ep... she reminded me of Cameron lite...and I hope they don't do that to her character.

Eh, House has the tendency to impulsively run off.

*crickets chirping*

I really hope Amber's character stays and not just gets shunted off when
Thirteen makes a comeback

I just read this and, "WTF, Amber's been dead for seasons" :lol

The smallpox episode has a number of serious issues, even assuming you allow for issues like time-course problems, the fact that the hospital is not anywhere near equipped for that kind of quarantine (and the measures shown are laughable), etc:

1) How did the Dad get the disease? They identified it as a strain of pox that was transmitted from rats to humans through bites, explaining how the slaves were able to be infected while the crew were safe. The daughter got infected by rubbing diseased scabs into a gaping cut (not sure how that would work, but anyway)--how did the father get it? If human to human transmission was possible, the above-deck crew would have gotten sick.

2) The black necrotic scar tissue they were looking for on the father... I'm no doctor, but I'm certain that kind of thing is actually directly caused by bites. Neither the father nor the daughter should have had this kind of tissue, since they were not bitten, even allowing for question number one to be solved. Wikipedia confirms this but also notes that Rickettsialpox isn't even fatal, hurrr

3) Why was House scared of getting Smallpox? He's been vaccinated against it, as literally all North American children his age would have been. Even allowing for his fear that the vaccination had become less effective, certainly it shouldn't have been such a terrifying moment.

I did check with a Dutch friend who confirmed that he could read Dutch written around that time so at least the plausibility of the stripper being able to translate isn't in doubt.

Yeah, I've heard before that medically speaking, pretty much any given episode of House is horribly inaccurate. I think most people just kind of tune out the specific symptoms, diseases, etc, though, and just focus on the brilliant acting and the character drama.

The medical knowhow was better in the earlier seasons, but it has rarely been perfect, and I dont think it is much of a prerequisite for the enjoyment of the show, but rather as something peripheral. Though the last few seasons have been taking more liberties with the medicine for the sake of drama.

The episode was pretty good drama wise, and I, for one, am happy that the writers arent changing the core beliefs/personality of House just for the sake of the relationship.

I thought they said he got it through the vaccination because his immune system was compromised due to cancer.

No, that was an intermediate diagnosis that they discarded and involved another pox-type virus. I think they called it Vaccinia.

Two weeks out of the last 3 House has tried radical and unproven treatments for his patients (the Hep A to cure Hep C, and last night with the stem cells) and they both just magically worked, like it wasn't even an issue. I'm no medicine hawk and I usually suspend belief for House from the medical side of things, but this is glaringly ridiculous. Put the small pox ep in between them and it just seems more and more absurd.

Other than that the episodes have been pretty entertaining this season.

*mindblown* House has been doing this for a good 6 years now. How the hell did they screw that up for so long?

They probably know. It's a little thing called inducing dramatic tension. And it doesn't hurt that shocking a flatline has become a heavily ingrained convention of film and television to the extent that most people think this fictional recourse is real rather than any actual one.

every tv series and movie uses the paddles for a flatline. and flatline actually mean the machine isn't connected properly. just one of those silly things.

Yay Fox, for 7 week breaks... I figured there would be at least one episode after Turkey day...

Great for me I missed the last 4 eps, I can watch them all on Hulu....I have almost 2 months woot.

My interest in the show has lost steam ever since I read some spoiler about
Amber Tamblyn's character leaves the show and 13 comes back

Couldn't care less about Murphy Brown being Cuddy's mom

Yeah, lost steam over that spoiler too, but apparently it
was her decision not theirs
. Not looking forward to Candace Bergen to be honest and the promos have kind of made me wary about all the relationship BS. I didn't care too much before, but I pretty much don't like anything about her as an actress or otherwise.
