Houston GAF: It's raining like Hell. Sound off!

The streets surrounding my block in Sugar Land were undrivable, but now almost everything has receded.

Looking at that radar it looks like it's dying down. How come there's going to be more until Friday?

Looking at some areas of town, even having a large SUV wouldnt help.

Having lived here my whole life I know when to turn around and GTFO :) but having a truck means I don't have to sweat the little stuff like when I had a car.

This reminds me of when I made the journey to the Greyhound station to pick my girlfriend up during TS Alison. That was a truly terrifying experience but I managed to get us back to the house safe. Never again though!

Yeah Alison was nuts!

Also im kinda surprised that the Judge said that Greenspoint area didnt seem like they would've needed boats early on...yet the area floods all the time :/ Kinda wish Houston would try to close streets early as well along with station emergency personel. Especially for areas that always flood.

I was up late watching Coachella when the rain started. Lights went out around 3 and I knew there was no way in hell I was going to work. The lights came back around 6:30, but they have been blinking off and on all day.

I work in Kingwood and Kingwood Drive floods temporarily after a hard rain. I live in Spring and my rain gauge stops at 9 inches. It was completely overflowing this morning. It doesn't really flood in my neighborhood, but I have no clue about the Grand Parkway that just opened near me.

lol that Grand Parkway tho

Greenspoint area is way more fucked than I thought. Damn. All those people living in the apartments are basically displaced.

4 people now confirmed dead. Ch. 11 was just showing two cars that people drowned in at the 610 and 59N exchange.

Guy on one car called his friend to say he was trapped and couldn't get out but didn't give his location. Friend started searching and found his car underneath water at the exchange.

Awful

I'm over in College Station, but I heard that it isn't too bad over in my neighborhood. Though the golf course behind our backyard ended up becoming a river. I basically got out of Houston at the right time, since apparently the rain started by the time my folks got home from dropping me off.

Just what 290 needs.

I live near Highway 6 and Westheimer, and it wasn't too bad. My street was a little flooded but I still went to work at 8 AM instead of 9. My supervisor lives near Eldridge and Briar Forest and when she got on Westheimer to head toward Highway 6 it was flooded so she drove on the wrong side of the road like some other drivers. But me and her were the only employees in the store for about 2 hours or so lol...

Lots of people called in, and it's understandable.

Also...all this Houston GAF people and we haven't had some meetup, what gives?

And sorry to those affected by this, I wish you well in the future.

Feels kinda gross that we have a thread making fun of and meme-ifying a terrified old man who nearly drowned in his sinking car when other people actually DID drown in basically the same situation. Haw haw haw :/

I'm off 290/barker cypress didn't have much problems but further down was a mess! That's alright tho stayed home from work hah

There's been several meet ups actually and a couple of attempts at meet ups.

The problem is Houston gaf doesn't sound off in the threads about meet ups. And those that do usually bitch about having to drive more than ten minutes to meet.

I've seriously learned more posters are in Houston from these threads and sports threads than any of the meet-up threads.

that's the truth though you know houston, 10 min drive = 3 tolls and shit lol I'm up near cypress so it's a hassle to meet some places, unless i go after work. Totally should get together though

I think Houston is over represented in sports threads. I usually try to do something during E3 but the first time two other people showed and after, nobody showed. Sooooooo, meh. I guess I'll try paying attention to these sound off threads more.

My area (I10-Alt9) doesn't flood much. So I'm sitting pretty here but all my jobs are just cancelling. At this rate I might literally not have a paycheck this week. That 290 thing means I'm not going to the office anytime soon. Fuck that. I'll upload my work from home.

Just did some research & had my mom test a route for her return home (which worked). If you live in the Stone Gate general area & are brave enough to get Domino's (they're only doing carry-out in Houston, right now), go all the way down to Grand Parkway, take the u-turn, then go into the freeway. Don't exit until you get to Telge, then take a right. That's basically a back-route to Stone Gate, Towne Lake, or anything else within that general area.

Hisd closed bones me, since day care tracks hisd. I have to go to work, my wife s at home with the two kids. Are we still going to put our house on he market tomorrow? Not sure how many people are house hunting this week and with the kiddo home our ability to d work is severely impacted.

Oh no! Sorry to hear that.

I'm in the Spring area and despite us getting hit very hard, there was very little flooding if any at all.

Greenspoint got fuked tho. Sad.
