how about an HD remake console by nintendo?

The idea is a box only for HD remakes/updates to old games. Nintendo's huge library and 3rd party games.

So it would not need to be bleeding edge hardware. Might work with the handheld/console idea really well and it could be designed to make it a profitable venture for 3rd party's.

Maybe this is an awful idea. Maybe I'm just talking about a pc with nintendo games. Idk.

Thoughts?

This sounds like a very bad idea to me. It would probably cost a decent amount to produce and would sell only to hardcore Nintendo enthusiasts. It would also further divide Nintendo's software support between platforms (i.e. Wii U would be in even more of a drought without stuff like Wind Waker HD).

I think a better, similar, but still crazy idea is for Nintendo to release their own "clone" console like the Retron or whatever that plays NES, SNES, and N64 games, and do small reprints of their classic NES/SNES/N64 games to be sold online for cheap.

...so...

a Wii-U

Yeah, not sure why you'd need a new box that would be used strictly for remakes. Why not just release the remakes on Wii U? Unless you mean a total hardware upgrade that would bring it inline with PS4 and Xbox One? In that case, no, I still don't think it would be necessary.

Interesting thought, though.

The Wii U can already do all of this.

Why do they need a seperate console? Just release them on Wii U.

Yeah a lot of people seem to agree with you. My idea is a console purely made for HD updates and marketed that way. Maybe you guys are right and the wiiu is all they need.

The problem is no 3rd party will follow suit on wiiu. That's why I thought maybe they would need hardware with sales and incentive for 3rd party to work on. That s where Nintendo's ingenious would come into play.

I believe the virtual console helped sell the the Wii.

Yes. New hardware for old games makes zero sense. Just use what's there already.

No 3rd party is going to follow suit on a new piece of hardware either if Nintendo doesn't prove its worth. Another console with new architecture to learn which is even more unproven than the Wii U would be even worse.

HD remakes are a good idea. New hardware is not.

I think the idea is based on the fact that no one knows or cares about a Wii U. A new console, marketed correctly, would be beneficial to Nintendo, no matter what it does.

If they can sell a $50-$99 box with a huge library of old-school titles to choose from, that would work.

Bro. Everything you're saying can be done on Wii U.

Releasing new hardware will just give us two Wii U situations.

Nintendo would drip the games out at one game a month, starting with balloon fight.

Games would probably still be tied to the hardware.

Not the first time I've seen people think like this though they extend it to the virtual console as well which given how the Wii U will be lucky if it gets the VC the Wii had let alone surpasses it...

HD remakes Nintendo prices them as if they are new games. I'd rather new games, I'm not paying ÂŁ50 for Wind Waker HD (only ÂŁ10 than the SD verion cost in 2003 and that came with 2 N64 games too) made more obnoxious by Nintendo bragging about how it took them 6 months to make.

If it's going to handle HD Wii games it probably won't be $50-$90

Message board users should stop making threads on how to save nintendo when they have no idea how to save nintendo

like bruh i get it you bought a wii-u, you want people to do it too

it's a great console but im pretty sure your crackpot schemes wont make nintendo a fucking penny

speaking generally, of course.

...? Why? What? And what would 3rd party support even help achieve? No one is going to buy a console that isn't going to be getting any new exclusive content. You'd buy a PS4 or Xbox.

Plus, past gamecube era, they'd basically be making the games from scratch again. So why wouldn't they a make a new game instead?

I'm not trying to save nintendo and it was just an idea that made some sense to me so I wanted to discuss it on a msg board.

I really like Nintendo's remakes. I don't care who buys a wiiu. I have my own...

I do too! A whole lot, wow

but...there's already hardware for the remakes to be around. 3DS and Wii-U.

I mean idk I bought StarFox 64 3D and it's my favorite remake

Why not just flood the Wii U with said HD remakes? There's no need for a new console just for that.

Yeah, I'm confused why they'd need a new console for this.

The HD re-make of WW on Wii U is super great, but I don't even really need those, just the Virtual Console would satisfy my retro gaming requirements... if only it had cross-buy/persistence when new consoles come out and any games at all...

I don't think you've really thought this one through. They can barely even get their proper new games out in a timely manner and now they are going to start remaking all their old games in HD?

Isn't the whole issue with the Wii U that nobody knows about it because how it was revealed/marketed? Therefore, no one is buying it and publishers don't want to release games on it.

Nintendo's answer will be in a new machine. There is no saving the Wii U, and I myself love the thing. It may not be the machine the OP describes, but everyone saying 'why not on the current machine' is missing the entire point.

how are we missing the point if we are discussing the Machine the OP is describing?

It's already out there, it's called a Wii U. Lol, not sure if I should laugh at my own joke or feel sad. I think by remaking a few good classics, they'll have less trouble riding this out until the new gen arrives. And then give everything they have, nothing hold back
