How and when did you get your first car?

My one and only car, bought back around 2000: 1989 Taurus for $3,000 used had around 60k on it.

Car ran great for me, even though I put 220k on it in about five years. In the end, had to have quite a bit of transmission work done and after a while it just didn't make economical sense to keep it around. And now I live in a city with "decent transit", and having a car would be an insane expense not to mention a parking / travel / gridlock headache.

My first car was my uncle's old Saturn. He knew something was going out on it (I forget what), so he got a new car and sold it to me for 600 bucks. It was old and pretty cruddy for the most part, but I loved it. Whatever it was that was going out actually didn't go out for a couple of years past when they thought, so I got a lot of out of it before I had to stick a ton of money back into it. I bought it myself when I was 15.

I think it had like 140,000 miles or something on it. I drove it until it hit about 220,000. My parents urged me to trade it in and helped with some money for a new car because they felt unsafe with me driving my sister to school in it. I was slightly offended by them thinking it was fine until my sister had to ride in it too, but whatever.

Sorry, I lost all photos of my old car when my HDD took a shit :/

Oh ok. I assumed because it was Montgomery Auto Group that it was in Alabama.

fucking rich kids.

You know, sometimes rich parents reward their kids for being good kids.

My best friend in college. Got a full ride to go there, stayed on the dean's list in aerospace engineering, and when he graduated, they bought him a new 4Runner.

While we were in school, he drove a beater 1987 Accord.

At that point, I knew they could have spoiled him the whole time, but I think he worked hard and was rewarded for it. It's the ungrateful ones you have to worry about.

Bought my first car last year (when I was 20). 57 plate Ford Fiesta for around ÂŁ4000, just completed year 1 of 4 that I'm paying it off, so by the time I've finished Uni it should be paid off.

Bought my first car when I was 19, using money saved from student loans and savings.

Pretty nippy little hatch for Europe, best I could do in terms of insurance.

Now I'm 22 and have just bought another hatch, but it's hotter, 80% hotter in terms of horsepower!

Borrowed money from a friend, but repaid it in less than 2 months as I secured a job before buying it :D best fun I've ever had.

my first car was a 1979 ford F100... bought if for like $200 and my dad replaced the engine with a 302 he had.... thing was in terrible condition.. picture not my truck but similiar looking.

only bad thing this was in 1999... oh and 12 miles to the gallon

In 2000, I inherited this tank from my grandfather:

audi-80-560x373-589d2dax26.jpg

'89 Audi 80/B3 1.8S with 90 hp and 3 gear atuomatic (pic appearantly not mine)

After about two years, the gear unit broke and I had to give it away. Sucks, because if the authorised repair shop wouldn't have fucked around and found it earlier, it could have been saved. In retrospect, I should have paid the money to repair it, I guess it would still run today. Theses things are sturdier than tanks!
1 year ago, after 2 Renaults, I finally went back to Audi and now own an '96 A6 2.6. Felt like coming home the first time I sat in it ;)

When I turned 16, my parents bought me a used red Mustang coupe from maybe 2000. A few years later, when I had proven that I wasn't going to wreck it or get speeding tickets, they upgraded me to a new red Mazda 6 coupe, which I drive to this day.

I was extremely grateful on both occasions. I'm pretty sure I humped the Mustang for a good hour when it was unveiled to me though.

Dad's present for my 18th birthday back in '06:

(not my actual car, but looks just like it).

200k miles, but ran flawlessly as any Toyota did. Had to sell it a few years later to a friend because his BMW was totaled :lol

Not a car, but I got my first motorbike, a Yamaha XVS125 Drag Star, at age 20. Paid ÂŁ1900 for it, and I tell you, it was the best thing I'd ever bought. I loved that bike too, until my garage got broken into and I found the bike smashed up on the side of the road on my way to work one morning.

I had worked at a ChicK-Fil-A for a year making minimum wage only getting like 8 hours a week the entire year I was 15. I saved almost every cent I made and had enough to buy myself a 1986 200sx. It was an awful car that broke down all the time, but was quite fun to drive. I also had no idea how to drive a manual so I taught myself in that thing. That first week stopping at traffic lights was terrifying since I stalled all the time.

Looked exactly like this one:

My parents got me a POS car when I was in high school. It did the job but some ***** t-boned me and wrecked it after my 1st year in college. (the accident occurred a few blocks from home, however).

Too ugly to post pics of >_< ....which works out since I don't even have pics of it.

My parents bought a new SUV for my mom so they handed me down her old car, a 1998 Toyota Corolla which was only used to go from home to work and back and some grocery shopping. I was 16 and the car was in amazing condition.

Haven't had my first car yet. My dad was about to buy me a car (used), but didn't for some reason.

Only had my learners at the time, so I didn't really care.

My first was a 1972 Mercury Capri that went from my brother to my sister to me, for a cost of $400 back in 1977.

It looked exactly like this one (minus the ski rack), except it was all beat to hell by the time I was through with it:

My mom had purchased a small toyota pickup truck to perform duties that a pickup truck is supposed to shortly before I got my license. So when I did get my license, that truck was the one I drove. It was also older than me. The gas pedal stuck, so you would have to angle your foot under it to let up on gas, it couldn't get gas in the bottom half of the tank, so I would have to make sure it was more than 50% full at all times. I was driving on the freeway once and the whole gear stick came out of the floor in my hand. I could see the freeway through the hole in the floor where the stick had been. There was no working heater, so winter morning commutes to the college were very very cold. Needless to say, it was a piece of junk.

After it died my mom bought a small geo metro that I bought off of her over time. I loved that geo. My favorite car ever. Mainly in contrast to that truck.

Let me preface this by saying I've been incredibly fortunate to have the hard working Parents that I do.

With that said, my first car was a Pearl White 2006 Nissan 350Z. I received it as a gift for my 17th birthday.

I love that car.. I'm gonna have to get a 3GTL because eventually I'll need a sedan lol.. Otherwise I'd be all over a 350.

Got my car just before Coledge back in 2007, it's a MB V220, 2003, automatic, still working great to this day. Drove about 40k KM the first year. And yes, my parents bought it for me. Since day one it has been my place to chill out, and the only place i exclusively listen to music, i have worked on it a lot over the years(sound system), together with my friend. Has also been used a lot to transport stuff, and people, so it has served it's purpose to the fullest as a people carrier.

When I was 18, got a 2000 camry. In 1.5 years haven't done much to it, aside from recently throwing a brand new sound system in it

1994 Honda Accord EX (Not my pic, but looks nearly identical to it). I've had it since I was 18. Still own it and probably will still own it for a few more years as I'm not in the market for a new car right now. I got it secondhand from my cousin (for $1200) who originally got it from his mom. Still runs pretty great.

Not mine, but same model.

Loved it to death, but it was not a car that got me chicks. I took it to hell and back and it still ran like a dream.

When I was 16 I bought a white 1992 mustang for around 6K. My mom co-signed on the loan for me but I paid it off myself. It lasted me a good 4 or 5 years

Looked like this but without the fancy rims:

Model: 1994 Ford Ranger 4x4

(Not my actual truck, but the same model).

I didn't get my first car until I turned 18. I used the money I got from my high school graduation to get it.

What made it fun was how we bought it. I went with my mom to take a look at it and we ended up buying it. Pissed my dad off and he didn't talk to her for 3 days. Wasn't that bad of a truck. Ended up trading it in for a 2001 Ranger with the Xtra cab.

Really kinda pissed that Ford killed the Rangers. My last one was a 05 and all three of the Rangers I've owned have been great trucks. Now I have a Mercury Mariner (traded my Ranger so I'll have a vehicle with 4x4 for my son, we live in Montana and the winter's can get pretty bad, although this year has been fantastic, was 50 degrees yesterday.

Let me preface this by saying I've been incredibly fortunate to have the hard working Mother that I do.

With that said, my first car was a Dirty White 1978 Holden Gemini. I purchased myself for $1000AU (about $500 US) when I was in my early 20s.

1994 Volvo 940 sedan. Parents bought it for me in the fall of my senior year of high school (late 2006). Cost about $900 and had over 200,000 miles on it. I had it until this year when I traded up to a nicer Volvo.

Still have my first car, got it as a surprise graduation present from the Grandparents. Was pleasantly surprsied, didn't expect them to get anything like it for me. 2000 Nissan Altima, my baby and still runs fine and true.

My first car was a 1992 Nissan Skyline GTS-T (R32) that I imported myself from Japan (I live in Canada) by splitting a crate with a friend who bought a S13 Silvia. It was quite a long and expensive experience and also fairly scary wire transfering all that money over to someone I'd never met to buy something I'd never seen in person. There was also the huge risk of losing or damaging the car during shipping because they do not offer insurance for that.

Overall I was extremely glad I did it though, it was great owning something unique and interesting (this is not the car you'd want to own around here if you don't like attention) when all my friends were driving Mustangs or Civics. Took a while to get used to driving RHD on roads designed for LHD cars, making left turns was always very difficult as I basically have to wait until I get a yellow or for an advance green if there is a car in turning left in the lane opposite me, because I won't be able to see if there is any oncoming traffic. I am pretty used to it now as I've owned RHD cars ever since, but I still sometimes get people honking at me to turn, but I'm not stupid enough to risk my life for that.

No idea what happened to her, sold her to my friend so I could buy a 1994 R32 GT-R V-Spec and then he sold it a few months later to someone so he could buy a Supra. It had ~80,000km when I picked it up and a little over 140,000km when I sold it and she never had a major breakdown despite me driving her pretty hard and doing some pretty extensive modifications.

Here is a pic a few years after I got her, on the right with the Advan AVS model 5's

Dad bought a 95 Ford Thunderbird in about 1998 from an Old man who put about 20,000 miles on it when our Oldsmobile died. Bought the Oldsmobile when my and my sister couldn't fit in his Truck anymore. He has always had a personal Truck.

In about 2005 I got that 95 Ford Thunderbird with 60,000 miles. Still have it with about 112,000.

My sister got a used Chevrolet.

I think both cars were worth about $5,000 when we took over.

Sophomore year of college, bought a used Honda Civic with money my grandmother had gifted to me as a graduation present that I had invested and made a fair amount of profit on.
Passed it on to my sister two years later and got a 01 stratus rt that I still drive to this day. I have driven it to hell and back, beat the shit out of it, abused it, driven it way harder than I should have, and 8 years later it's still running strong save for needing a new transmission thanks to my foolishness when I was younger. But at 130K very hard miles, I fear the end could be around the corner.

Bought my sister's 2001 Honda Civic coupe w/about 100k miles on it for $3,000. KBB value is a little over $6k. Thing looks great (especially in blue) and runs like a champ. I had just turned 23 when I bought it last year and plan to use it as my only vehicle until I have kids.

My first car was 92 Mustang 5.0 that I bought off my manager when I worked at Blockbuster video. It had a Ford Racing 351 crate motor with like 200 miles on it. His wife was forcing him to get rid of it cause they had no room on the driveway so I got it for $1200 lol. It made something like 440 bhp and the transmission was pretty fucked, learning to drive on that fucker in Chicagoland winters was an adventure.

I had a Celebrity too. Wasn't bad for a first car.

The old 2.5l had some omph ... and the AC Delco Radio was surprisingly unshit for a stock radio of that era.

Was a great 1st car IMO. Have very fond memories of the antics me and my buds had in it.

My first car was a 94 Toyota Tercel that I got in 2007 from my uncle who works with a lot a body shops. Paid about 100 bucks for it and it lasted a good two years before the exhaust fell off and I sold it to a junkyard for 50 bucks.
