• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

how come everyone forgot F-Zero's 20th anniversary?

GX is a masterpiece.

The sense of speed and exhilaration are unmatched. The challenge + the simplicity of the controls meant that true skill was needed to beat the game.

I would kill for an online-heavy iteration with amazing HD graphics.

I didn't forget

It's pretty sad how poorly GX did. I want to re-collect all my awesome gamecube games, and picked it up as my first one when I got a wii. Such an awesome game. Probably my favorite racer ever. Everything else is just too damn slow after playing it. I pretty much ignore any other racer, because of that game. The music was really catchy too.

Fire field was one of my favorite songs. The track was pretty crazy too.

I hope Nintendo brings some new installments on a Wii 2, and the 3DS. It could be a great technical showcase if nothing else, though I would hope it would sell well too.

When I got F-Zero GX for christmas, I also received a speedcore CD. So in my eyes, the perfect F-Zero music would be something like this:

Nice. Never heard of Speedcore before. I haven't really explored Industrial much other than Ministry, and The Berzerker though. I'm More of a Metal guy. I could definitely see something like that in an F-zero game though without the vocals.

F-Zero GX is still the best arcade racer. I am hoping they do one for 3DS though.
The existence of the fully robotic F-Zero AX arcade unit will taunt me for the rest of my days...

Playing on that thing was AWESOME. The movement of the chair added a lot, it felt pretty crazy.

the series went to hell on the handhelds.

F-zero, F-Zero X and GX are the only good games imo. snaking aside GX was the best although X had some better track designs.

true.

the first time i had all of them i was pretty happy.

now i got all of them in 3 memory cards just because i can't copy my save. stupid copy protection.
I had them all as well
Thank goodness Dolphin has action replay so I don't have to unlock everything again!
I must've threw the controller 40 times because of storymode

F-Zero GX is awesome. Wipeout HD is awesome as well, but apart from online and superior visuals, F-Zero GX still holds the futuristic racer crown.

Nintendo should sell the franchise to SEGA and let them do F-Zero for Playstation/Xbox. F-Zero playing like F-Zero GX with online added and looking like Wipeout HD Fury would be creampants.

Yes, let's trust Sega. They don't bungle anything.

I really like these games; have Nintendo people even hinted at a resurrection in the near future? Even the GBA ones were a lot of fun.

Oh good another one of these threads. FAN ART TIME!

Man I love F-Zero. Such a great... umm..racing game.
Just kidding I played the shit out of GX.

Trivia Edit: That is actually the artist who did the official art for Odin Sphere and Muramasa.

Ah, F-Zero GX. I can't think of any other game that could be so rage inducing in a good way. So many hours spent trying to perfect my game with that one.

Such a shame that there hasn't been another this gen. WipEout HD is amazing and fills the void a little bit, but it isn't the same.

Thank you F-Zero GX. Most difficult game I own. I've had you since release and I still haven't unlocked a new car. :I

As much as I love F-Zero GX, it really bothers me people don't respect the true archetype F-Zero X. That game was genius. F-Zero GX was just recreating the N64 classic (minus some features) with a whole lot of flash on from the billions Nintendo spent on the production end.

I don't think F-Zero is gone forever. Just a feeling I get.

If it returns, Sega must be the developer again, though.

Playing devil's advocate here. You think the F-Zero GX team still exists at SEGA somewhere? And you think that massive production unit could be brought back for a game that sold like 300k?

The answer is taking it back to its F-Zero X roots. Finding a small talented team under Miyamoto. And kicking some ass.

Yeah seriously. I'm browsing this at the library what the hell was that shit.

Also F-Zero GX was a frikken masterpiece. And the only time I broke a controller and I never get mad playing games.... Stupid story mode.

Its not dead guys, any nintendo franchise isnt really dead. They are like fucking volcanoes, waiting the moment to shake things up!

soundtrack wise, f-zero climax > x > zero > gx

NOT ONLY THAT BUT A GENIUS.
My hat off to you, mr Gravijah.

Thats my favourite theme in the series.

How's Climax btw

Best mode 7 F-Zero.

Considering all the effort that went into GX, it's a shame it kinda bombed.
I don't think it even exceeded 250K units sold, iirc.

Theres so many amount of detail. Did you know the commentator and host of the game is the same as the one used in the F-Zero comic in the Super Nes manual?
Talk about unknown characters!

*looks at fan art* 0_o , lol wow smh

i remember i bought a sealed copy at EB games for $5 fucking dollars a year or to after GX came out, what a deal, hard as hell and i think i never beat it :(

Thanks for the tasteless, offensive, creepy 'fan' art.

Nintendo's timing in their revival of franchises is always right on the mark. I'm sure we'll see something from the F-Zero franchise again.

Climax shits all over Maximum Velocity and GP Legends. Too bad it never officially came out in the US.

EDIT

I'm on the fence when it comes to the 3DS. But a new F-Zero will most likely make me jump in. Maybe not initially, but I will definitely consider it.

F-Zero GX was such an awesome way to go out on the consoles. One of the best racers of that gen.

Hopefully Nintendo revives the series for the 3DS. TBH, I'm not dying for them to bring it back on the wii simply because there's not much they can do there to really improve upon GX (aside from new tracks, minor gameplay upgrades, etc).

3DS could be a really great experience, and/or hopefully when Wii2 is announced with power on par with 360/PS3 we get a new gorgeous game there.
