How crappy is your daily commute?

1 hour. 40 minutes if I catch the express.

If I miss my first bus, an hour and a half to an hour and 45 mins.

Eh, about 45 minutes. Riding MARTA into downtown Atlanta is very convenient so I'm not complaining either.

I used to live 8.5 miles from my job, but due to traffic I had a 35-40 min commute. It SUCKED. I can't imagine dealing with an hour plus each day, both ways.

I moved much closer in June and now my commute is anywhere from 5-10 minutes. My stress levels have dropped dramatically. I can wake up at 7:20 a.m., and if I showered the night before, be at my desk by 7:40 (which means I'm leaving work at 4:10 p.m.).

20-30 minutes composed of walking and subway (includes waiting for the trains, walking at interchange stations), and more walking (to class).

~45min to get to uni, ~1hr back. It's not too terrible.

On a good day I can make it in less than 10 minutes. The bus only takes 6 minutes to the campus downtown, so it just depends on the wait.

1hr bus/train combo. I love it, it's my 'me' time when I get to catch up on books, comics and iOS gaming. I could drive in but I'd just spend the whole trip crawling along in traffic and swearing at everyone elses inability to drive.

I ride the bus for about 20 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh to school. I read along the way. I would never live somewhere where I needed a car.

30-40 minutes, depends on traffic and i drive below the limit to minimize fuel consumption. It will take around hour in snow.

54 or 57 km in one way, with car.

About 10-15 minutes to drive in and around 20-30 on the bus. I just put in my earphones and read GAF on my iPad.

I've done the 3 - 4 hours a day in a car thing and its so not worth it.

Sure I had a big house in the suburbs but so what. I'd get up at 6 am, get home at 9 - 10pm and be in bed by 11. It was a shitty life. Not to mention gas cost 500 a month and highway tolls on the 407etr another 500 + car payments of 400, 200 insurance, maintenance, snow tires etc.

Now I live in a 600 sq ft condo in the downtown Toronto core. Car is gone and I take public transit to work -- 20 min each way. Transportation costs 126 a month instead of the 1400 I paid before. I have plenty of quality time at home to relax, and I'm in better shape from the walking.

I would NEVER return to the commuting life of the burbs ever again. Even if we have kids we will get a bigger condo. Life energy is too precious to waste 3 hours a day in a car.

Depends on when I have to work.

If I am opening (8-430 shift), then it sucks. Can take anywhere from 30-90 min for the drive depending on traffic.

Any other shift or weekends and it is fine. 15-30 minutes for drive.

I hate driving through Hartford, CT.

No traffic + all green at stoplights = 15 minutes
Normal day = 45 minutes
Horrible traffic = Expect to buy takeout on the way back home

I don't do it every day I do it Mondays and Thursdays. But to put it in perspective.

Today was Columbus day. So less traffic.

I left an hour and a half later than usual and I got in 5 minutes earlier than usual.

That's right, 90 minutes of it is just traffic.

If I leave after 7:00 AM: 2 hours and some change.

If I leave before 7:00 AM: 1 hour or less

On the way back

If I leave before 4 PM: 40 minutes

If I leave after 4 PM: 1-3 hours

ATLANTA!

I worked independently for four years, so fifteen steps from my bedroom to my office was great. Now I'm working in an office full-time, and it's...significantly less great.

If I leave the house at 6:50, I get to work in twenty minutes. If I leave the house at 7:05, it takes an hour. By my calculations, if I leave at 4am, I'll get to work before I leave home.

How the fuck do you deal with that? When you wake up in the morning, how do you resist the urge to just say "fuck it" and stay home when you know what's looming?

For school, it's roughly 1:30, since I have to walk, take a bus then the subway. It sucks.

For work, it's a 30 minutes car ride.

We used to drive to Florida for March Break. (From Ontario.)

Atlanta was the home of the worst traffic jams I've EVER seen.

I never want to go back to Atlanta. Or even just pass through.

Well, I had graduated from a one-hour drive commute (one-way) to a 5 minute walk commute. Lost that job, now I'm taking public transport to my new job, which takes 30 mins. It's not so bad, but I miss the 5-minute commutes immensely.

8-15 minutes by car, 2 traffic lights, usually very light traffic. Can't complain. Only thing i dislike is that it wouldn't be a very easy bike ride if i wanted to do so since it's mostly highways and slower streets are out of the way.

I can get to my campus (where I attend as a PhD student) by:

Foot, in 40-50 minutes
Bicycle, in 12-14 minutes
Car, in 5-10 minutes (including parking and then walking to my building)
Public bus, 35 minutes (have to make a transfer)

I almost always bike, but when it is raining or gets too cold I drive to a closer bus stop (takes me about 4-5 minutes to drive there) and then take a bus (takes about 12 minutes). The parking on campus is super limited, so if I ever drive directly there and pay the meter it is only for very specific occasions.

It's about a 5 minute drive and walking is about 15 minutes. Don't mind walking when the weather is nice. Only thing is that there isn't any sidewalks that way so I have to walk through all grass.
