How did you choose your avatar?

My avatar chose me ! (we had a moment when i went to rescue him from the hobos he was stuck with, too bad about his sister though...)
 
I choose mine after avy hoping a whole bunch after I found a home in Electronic-gaf. I had to represent my favorite artist Amon Tobin, but wanted something a little more artistic and something that didn't feel like I was wearing is face as my persona. Thus my ISAM Astronaut avatar was born.

When thinking about getting a new one, I was thinking about something that avoids those problems. and thus my favorite avatar was born, and as I took not of the quality posts so did my favorite poster on gaming side.
 
I made a "will cook for new Avatar" contest many years back and an awesome fellow GAFfer was the winner with the design found on the left. His name back then was Newbie, but he changed it and now I don't know the current username. Anyway, thanks a million times again for the legendary design! :)

Avatar Request Thread

Maybe something like the below, the link has some amazing people to scale/crop/... images.

I'm throwing this out - quality is lame but you get the idea.

If you tilt your head, stand on one foot and squint your eyes, I look just like my avatar (or will in a few years).
 
I find it helps in a video game forum to have a platform-agnostic gaming avatar to avoid having the answer to any argument being "your avatar means you are biased". Plus everybody loves Max.

saw this in the arrested development thread and had to have it. Also since they were limited edition nes carts printed with images from the show and its based on Donkey Kong, it looked cool B^)


my other avatar before this was my real pic for January and before that was hank hill
 
I wanted something that was kinda unique and recognizable as I don't really post a lot. Avatars are fundamental on GAF as people rarely read usernames and memorize them.
I ended up choosing Viola from Radiant Historia because I really like her (silver hair and heavy armor <3) and because we both
keep working for the bad guys even if we realize they're evil because of a very strong sense of loyalty.

My life is run by music, so my avatar is usually an album/single cover of whatever I've been listening to lately. In this case, the single cover for How to destroy angels_' song How long?. :)

A lot of people seem to keep the same avatar forever, but mine usually changes once every couple months.
 
For almost three years it was some variation of the Green Arrow, but eventually common sense occurred and I changed it to Errol Flynn's Robin Hood. It's weird that it didn't occur to me at all to do that to begin with, given how big of a fan I am of that movie and is the entire reason why I chose the name to begin with.
