How do I use DLNA on XBox One?

So I got one yesterday and I wanted to setup DLNA since I put my PS3 off duty after so many years. I know the XBO has DLNA streaming and I downloaded Universal Media Server (succesor to PS3 Media Server) but I have no freaking idea how to get this to work on XBO.

Anyone has experience? (With this program or anything else!)

No, plex is not required.

I added a folder to the video share in Windows Media Player and now the Xbox One just sees it, and lets me browse through and play videos.

Download the media player app (not xbox video like I did) and it should just find stuff on your network.

I had to allow it access in the sharing settings on Windows but after that it just worked.

I just start the video player app and it finds my PC. I don't think I ever had to set any connection up or anything.

Transcoders are not required. That's what makes it such a great update. You just need a network share on your home network, and it can read it.

I just got the new version of UMS. It seems to be detecting the XB1 as a 360.
Go to the General Configuration tab, press the "Select renderers" button towards the bottom, and uncheck the 360.
Save and restart UMS and the Media Player app.

Well something is definitely off here...

I definitely have share On. My PC sees the Xbox One. Media Player app says No devices found.

-_-

Well I am stumped...

Sharing is enabled on my PC. I have the Media Player App. Hell, if I use Media Player I can select "Play to" on certain videos and it will play on the Xbox Video app, but of course that's not what I want to do.

Media Player just says No Devices Found, and I can't refresh or do anything. It has no settings. UMS says nothing found. It is connected to the network as my PC sees the Xbox One and its all in the same network.

EDIT: Xbox One is also allowed in the Sharing area in my PC

Read my post, #9. If it detects the XB1 as a 360, the XB1 won't show it.

Is there a troubleshooter for PC connections in the network settings? (I might be thinking of the 360) it was usually quite good at pointing you in the right direction.

just share your libraries through Windows Media, then in your XB1 open de media app and your PC should show up there and let you open from there the music, video or picture files, that's how I did it in my setup

I am having the same problem. Xbox sees my computer but I can't see files in folders. I tried lowering firewall, no dice. Is port routing required?

I downloaded the media player app and it recognized my PC immediately. :D

I know I set up streaming for my 360 a long time ago, but don't remember the process.

I've used windows media player, I've used flex and i've used media browser.

I like media browser the best.

Can someone explain this media player thing?
Is it an app I can download or something?

In Windows Media Player, enter to the options Stream > Turn on media streaming...

here you can share the files in your libraries from Windows, also keep in mind that with this method, all media files should be legible from this program in your PC so in Windows Media are shown in your library

If you have a tomato powered router with attached storage, you can just turn on media server under USB options.

Just be warned that the favorable setup due to a linux environment would be a ext3 formatted drive. FAT32 is a second option although remember the 4 GB file size limit. NTFS is dog slow, so don't bother although you're still welcome to try it out.

It's an app you download on the Xbox One to connect to media servers like Windows Media Player, Plex, or UMS, Serviio, etc.

The firewall thing was in can the XB1 does not see UMS at all. Since it just eventually worked for me, I guess just keep trying restarting Media Player and UMS.

XBO says connection is Open, all ports working... everything working perfectly.

XBO Media Player says nothing found. =/

I keep bringing up the firewall because Java specifically needs to be let through (private).

I had a similar issue until I IP filtered and just gave access to my Xbox one.

You showed firewall is golden, Is there maybe a router issue happening?

What is UMS and how do I change settings?

UMS is really good, spin off of PMS (ps3 media server). It's really simple... set folders to share, and DLNA devices on the network (360, ps3, any dlna device) should see it and be able to browse through those files. If the file is not supported by the device, UMS will transcode (realtime decoding) to make it work.

Oops. The whole thing is set on the PC btw. Thats where the settings are at.

I couldn't really get it to work so I just use the play to function.

Although we have an XPS 18 so doing that from the sofa isn't that big a deal.

Is there any other DLNA device or Pc on your network that you can use just to confirm that the media server is actually running and can stream media?

Also:

Is file & print sharing also enabled under your network settings?

Have you confirmed your network settings in windows media player?

Here's how I do it in Windows 7. I enable streaming through Windows Media Player, and point WMP to the folders where my music and videos are kept, so it will add any files to the library that are put in those folders or their subfolders. Then my Xbox 360's System Video Player app can see it, and the Xbox One's Media Player app can see them as well. This works even after WMP has been closed, and even if it hasn't been run since restarting my PC.

I initially set WMP up to do this before the Xbox One came out, and I haven't messed with the setting since, but I think this is the option you're looking for:

On Xbox One, I actually pick up files that aren't shared and aren't in my WMP library. For example, I downloaded a Quantum Break video to my desktop, and it shows through the Xbox One.

EDIT: Some of the other users in this thread probably know more about how to do this and get better results, but I like the method I use because I don't have to have anything running on my PC, and it was super easy to setup.
