How do you feel about a No Man's Sky 2?

The first game has a lot of room for improvement, but is a really good base. I'm looking forward to a sequel eventually. I'm hoping they don't spend too much time fussing with the current game, it's ok as is. I wanna see how much they can build on it in a sequel.

There's still a lot of conjecture flying around with this game. All the answers will come soon. He's gotta talk about it at some point.

But would I be open to a sequel? Hell yes I would. I absolutely love the game. That said, lessons have better been learned. On both sides. Sean tried to be too bold in his approach, and then kept all his cards close to his chest. And then when it was all said and done, feature creep, a rushed game, and an exhausted team happened. I very much look forward to what the game will look like in the future, and I really dont think it NEEDS a sequel. But I'd like to see what that looks like on a new gen console, perhaps.

They'd have to fix what's wrong/incomplete/not fleshed out with my current game before we even approach this topic. NMS2? LOL.

I would be okay with a sequel, but it cant simply be more of the same. They also cant just release a game that features what SHOULD have been in this game. It has to be radically improved.

And I will certainly wait for reviews, despite my enjoyment of No Mans Sky.

I have zero good will for this company. They could launch the best game ever tomorrow, I would not buy it. They are on my shit list, along with Gearbox.

Gearbox is for sure on mine as well! I totally get most of the reasoning why Hello Games is shit-listed for people, but for whatever reason, the shortcomings of NMS didn't upset me much. I probably didn't pay enough attention to any of the trailers, forgot whatever features had been promised along the way (thanks ADHD), or the game puts me into some hypnotic state (a good pre-bedtime game).

Removing all the hype, promises or failures of this game (probably impossible), its still a really cool base idea that I would love to see expanded on more. Looking at it this way, I'd be totally happy to see any dev picking up this idea and really filling it out more.

Nope.
There are just too many problems and the main gameplay loop is boring.

The gameplay mechanics and systems need a complete overhaul in almost every area, so it's better to just throw it in the trash and make an entirely new game from scratch rather than try to make NMS2.

Fortunately, there seem to be a few games being developed that take the core space exploration and space survival concepts and try to make a good game out of it (can't remember the names, but that EA game entering early access now, and that other indie one with more base building/crafting).

It would probably be much better

Now that they have a base they could start working on improving on it.
Also after the PR fail of the original they would have to work extra hard to prove that now everything they are saying is actually true. Unlike with the first one, they could no longer rest easy knowing they have an overwhelming amount of hype for their game

NMS is probably going to go through years of updates, just like Frontier plans to with Elite: Dangerous and like Minecraft did. NMS might feel like a completely different game a couple years from now.

Thinking about sequels even a few years down the line is the wrong way to approach games like this. There probably won't be a "Minecraft 2" for the foreseeable future.

No. NMS is pretty much dead. All you might see is the occasional update that adds some trivial bug ridden content. Can you say cash grab?

Comparing HG to Frontier or Microjang is ludicrous.

I don't think it'd stand a chance. They've dug their own grave with NMS. Whatever they put out next will be hard for them to sell. Of course you'll get the usual lot falling for it but most people will not touch anything they put out. Sean and any of the other members of HG will forever be associated with NMS so they've also ruined their careers.

The Hello Games name is ruined for sure, as is Sean's public-facing persona on the internet (for at least the next few years). But there are still talented people at that studio, who will likely be able to get jobs at other studios or start studios of their own. I doubt 90% of the people in this thread could even name another Hello Games developer besides Sean Murray (without Googling it).

And there's always mobile, which would be a valid fall back if they quietly rebranded and never let Sean Murray talk ever again.

I think you're greatly, greatly overestimating the importance of angry gamers on the internet. Hello Games are not going to cease to exist because of this backlash, that's absolutely insane. In a couple of years time, everyone except for the most hardcore internet dwellers will have forgotten about the No Man's Sky controversy, and Hello Games and Sony both know that. And ultimately, No Man's Sky was popular with casual gamers anyway, who don't give a shit about who makes the games in the first place.

I'm open to it.

I wasn't that personally invested in the title, I only decided to buy a few weeks before release, and I wasn't following news closely. So I don't feel personally burned, or whatever.

And, I like the game mostly. I wish it were a $20 title with frequent content updates, rather than a $60 static title.

i'd rather they just add to no mans sky. it was the initial plan after all. i'd be happy to get a sequel next gen though if it warrants it.

The team does seem talented, I am sure if Hello Games disassembles the individuals in the team will go on to great things. As a collective they are probably tarnished.

Exactly, that also ignores any potential major updates that could change the perspective of both the game and it's studio.

The silence is infuriating and the lies painful. But if they continue to update the game with new content the view of people will change on the studio and the figureheads. They lost a lot of goodwill and need to work hard to regain it.

There are more the one path for redeeming themselves, but they have to actually get on to it.

You're right that the internet does forget....eventually. But once a product reaches this level of internet infamy, it's hard for it to completely be forgotten. At least in any reasonable amount of time in which a studio would want to release (or even promote) another product.

And of course, nobody but the most hardcore internet dwellers remembers Aliens: Colonial Marines, and Gearbox's tarnished reputation certainly didn't hurt Battleborn at all.

It would be truly amazing, my mind would be blown!

Would most likely skip it like I did on the first one, with no regrets.

I would definitely get a NMS2 if it's a good game, but I certainly wouldn't pre-order it (or anything else for that matter) and would only purchase once it's clear from the general public / critics that it's a game worth playing. Their radio silence on NMS hasn't helped either, although I'm sure they'll pop their heads up with something eventually.

Some of you guys must be really fuckin desperate if you're ready to throw more good money after bad. They just PROVED to you that they ain't shit and you want them to make more shit for you?

When someone shows you who they really are, believe them.

At this point, it really isn't about if the game is good or not. The blatant dishonesty, lying and misleading interviews before release is the problem. You do that, you lose me as a customer forever, no second chance.
