How do you guys feel about "player stats" being locked behind pre-order bonuses?

because that's what Destiny 2 is doing:

stat tracking in destiny 1 was done through bungie.net and other 3rd party apps and websites, and the same is likely to happen with Destiny 2, but this is in-game stat tracking, which the first Destiny didn't have (aside from book of triumph specific stats)

i've read on reddit that its timed, and will be available to all players from December much like the exotic weapon "Cold Heart", but still, this seems like one of those things that should be available to all players from the start no? how does gaf feel about this? is this cool moving forward?

Well I hate preorder bonuses to begin with but usually I can dismiss them as they're typically fluff I don't care about. Something like this though, yeah I don't like it at all.

Bit silly making it a ghost feature, there's going to be many other better ghosts surely so tracking is going to go to waste.

Destiny 2 seems uninspired, but I'm glad Bungie is putting real work into making pre-order paywalls even more irritating for people.

I know many games do it, but Destiny just seems rotten for this exclusive stuff. 1 year exclusive content on Playstation platforms, locking away strikes, exotic weapons and multiplayer maps. Now essential features time locked as a preorder bonus. Remember the exclusive shader obtain by preordering a Call of Duty game? Or the exclusive content (mission, shader, sparrow) for getting (I think it was:)Red Bull codes? Fuck Bungie man.

Yeah it just continues to happen. I can't think of a specific instance where a pre-order bonus I got was used for more than maybe a few days to a week, tops. And yet I would still try to get them. Finally stopped worrying about and haven't looked back. I'll never be a special snowflake and I'm okay with that.

Those stats are retroactive and will be viewable in December for the few that didn't preorder. Also, they are not being locked because you don't know what other tracking mechanisms they have in the game.

HahahHahHhHhH.

You fucking what?

How do Activision always manage out shitty practice themselves?

Well, that's stupid. I'm sure I can still track it on the App, and it's not something I care too much about, and I imagine that Ghost will be superseded by a Ghost with a better roll after a few hours of playing. But still, that's stupid.

That is some dumb shit.

With that said, I don't know if it's fair to say "stats" are being held back as a pre order bonus as much as a "stat display". I'm fairly sure this information will be readily available to all players on bungie.net (almost certain that was the case in D1) so it's more of them holding back a stupid gimmick. Either way, I'm not a fan of exclusive pre order bonuses bullshit.

The stats will also be on your bungie account. Unless you need to check after every kill this doesn't matter and is just a nice little cosmetic thing aka a vanilla pre-order bonus.

my opinion on this matter is exclusive for two months to my patreon supporters

amazing post.

beautiful follow-up. sign me the fuck up

Hilarious if you think this is the only way your kills will be tracked.

i know destiny stuff can be tracked via bungie.net and 3rd party apps/websites but not everybody has access to or even know about them, and from what i recall this is the first instance of pvp/pve kills tracking in-game aside from the triumph books, but those tracked book specific achievements no?

How do you guys feel about this? Who gives a shit? The stats will be available online as with the first Destiny? If not, I'll care a little bit and get over it after a day.

The point should be that if this is the best preorder bonus you can conjure up, you shouldn't bother.

its not the only one tho.

Oh I know, but if this is still the best you can come up with as an addition then please save yourself the embarrassment and just don't bother.

But... in this very same thread you have people that seems to care a lot for the stats, that's why they believe it's deplorable. So Activision is into something here...

I enjoy looking at stats in my games, but these items shouldn't be bloody pre order bonuses.

The stats aren't being locked at all. There's still the stats tracked on Bungie.net and I wouldn't be surprised if there's more stat tracking in game. The ghost in question only shows the total kills you've achieved in PvP and PvE, nothing else.

I mean, it's still annoying to have this stuck behind pre-order, but it's not nearly as bad as people are acting like it is. It's also worth noting that Destiny 1 offered a similar ghost skin (the only alternative ghost skin for the first year of content), but it became useless because there were ghosts introduced later that had outright better bonuses. I wouldn't be surprised if the same happens here, the ghost is cool for the first 5 or so hours, but then you find something that gives you actual bonuses rather than another thing to clutter up your UI, and that's that.

I'm not a fan of pre-order bonuses in general...

But the title is misleading. It's just the stat track ghost... You'll easily be able to track your stats through other methods.
