How do you keep track of your game collection?

Eh? I have a shit ton of games and even I know just using my brain what I have. Would I be able to list every game in my collection off the top of my head, probably not but if you asked me if I owned a game, I'd be able to tell you yes or no easily.

I'm with you on the newer stuff, but after buying boxes of old intellivision, atari, and nes cartridges at garage sales, I couldn't tell you what I have.

Excel spreadsheet--out of necessity after I started buying games I already own.

Plus it's kinda nice to be able to just peruse a list when I'm hankering to play something I haven't touched in a while.

(Now I need to do the same for game guides. I hate accidentally buying duplicates of those.)

Thankfully I have not done this...yet, My Spreadsheet is preventing this from happening:lol

Which of these programs is best for nostalgia purposes?

I've been gaming since the NES era. All of my consoles and games before this generation have been sold.

I just want to be able to list every game I've played and remember all the details I may have forgotten. I may also end up buying some of those old games again.

Personally, I use Backloggery and Gamespot collectively.

However, these apps shown in this tread my be more helpful, as you can do things you can't do on Gamespot.

I also really like the fact that Game Database has an iPhone app... Sounds very.. very useful.

Admittedly, I've bought a game twice once...that would eliminate that

Man, I went through a phase where I threw all my DVD cases in the recycle bin and put them in folders. I couldn't do it with the games though. I use backloggery and a shelf.

I love collecting but sometimes I sit there and say is it really worth it? I go back and forth.

I have a spreadsheet that tracks every game I buy, the date, and the price. Goes back to about October 2006, so it doesn't have much older-gen stuff in it, but I know what I have from back then by heart. Really, though, I just have it all memorized, even the latest gen; I couldn't just list every game off the top of my head, but if you mention a game I remember if I have it or not.

Try adding price to that. When I go back once in a while to see how many games I've bought and haven't played, then look at how much all that shit cost me, I'll sometimes swear off buying anything for months at a time. :lol

This.

I also have a column to track my Gamerscore/Trophies for each game, and the Status and Gamerscore columns are color coded so I can quickly see what games I've completed, not played, am currently playing etc

I have this feeling all the time. I mean, in the long run, does it matter that I own a sealed copy of ET for Atari? I will never play it. It will never be worth money. It just sits there. same with all my games really. I don't have a ton after my last purge (somewhere around 125 physical games) and of those 125ish, I have only actually completed about 25 or 30 of them. But then I'll still buy Wii Sports Resort next week, and the next Professor Layton, and the next Mistwalker RPG, and so on and so on, but I will never finish them. and they will sit on my shelf mocking me, saying "look at allll the money you wasted!" but if I sell them off, I will feel a sense of loss and six months later I will spend twice what I earned selling them all off to get half of them back, and wonder what it's all for.

I think we all need to start going to meetings. When the quantity of shrink-wrapped games I own engulfs the opened games, I start to think I have issues. Looking over at my collection, I can see PSone games I still haven't opened.

I've done this one more than one occasion. I think it's a sign I need more games.

Set up the time and place lol.

Delicious library and the companion iPhone app that syncs with the library are all I use and they're both super awesome.

Delicious has an iphone app? I thought only gamepedia did.

I use IGN right now. Are these other apps significantly better that it would be worth entering all that crap again? Not sure about that...

anyone have any good ways of inputting said games into any system?

i know there's a tool on the Mac that you can use a webcam to scan the barcodes, and this will add them to your virtual library, but does something similar exist for the PC that doesn't suck and supports games?

i don't want to type these things in by hand and was thinking of writing a quick application or something to do it.

which site has a good database of OFFICIAL listings with OFFICIAL box art? raptr and a few others seem to have a problem with everything being user-submitted, and subject to wrong or non existent box art, wrong titles, etc.

By selling mass amounts of old consoles and games that I'll never play again. Games aren't 90 minute movies, no point in hoarding up a bunch of old, dated software, best to just hang onto the timeless. The amount of which being grossly over embellished.

Yeah it's not exactly full featured however. It syncs with your library but you can't scan in/add any new purchases yet. I'm assuming the scanning won't be an option on the regular 3G but may be very possible on the 3GS due to its improved camera.

Actually, that's exactly why I would hoard them over movies. The fact that they're long means I could go back to them years in the future, and play through them. Movies are short enough that I never really forget large portions.

Amazon is surprisingly accurate, and when they don't supply box art, google comes to the rescue.

I use the database of one of the biggest french video game websites, Gamekult.com.
But some solutions given in this thread seem pretty interesting.

I use THIS. (Not even close to complete and the website looks as if it's going to die)

I know. Just a list. Thing is, I can't stand looking at pages and pages of boxart, I want something simple. All I see are screens of boxes...do they have something relatively simple that offers both lists and pics?

(Don't say spreadsheet)

I vote backloggery.com. It's the only collection site that's actually fun for me to use. It's a cool site, and as someone said, you can design your own page, rate games, make wishlists, place your Gamercards or PSN Cards in your profile, etc. They do a good job of updating features as well, so who knows how awesome it'll be in the future.

Quite easily, i can remember mine, count them even.
1..2..thats pretty much it, i have a trade in addiction that has left me with nothing. Trade in 2 old & get 1 new is without doubt the worst thing mankind has ever done.

no, the worst thing is goozex. trade in one game, use the points to get 2 or 3 more. leads to so many unplayed games..

So what do you think of this piece of software? I thought about it a while back, but wanted impressions.

I've been using it for about 3 years now, and have cataloged over 500 games with it. I shy away from using websites because you never know when one of them will discontinue service or whatever else - with GameCollector I can make my game database and all of the related data a part of my monthly backup procedure.

It does a good job of grabbing game descriptions and box art given the name of a game (although it seems to be US-centric as a lot of my Japanese games aren't found and if they are, usually without box art). Even if it can't find the box art on it's own, adding it is as easy as dragging and dropping.

The software allows me to track all kinds of data related to the game: Developer and Publisher info, release dates, pricing, the list goes on.

In my opinion, Game Collector has two flaws:
1) It doesn't support Japanese text.
2) The online database (for auto-adding games) is US centric.

Other than that, it does everything I need and more. I haven't used the iPhone app yet, but within the month I hope to purchase it.

Here are some screenshots:

I use IGN, it works well for what I want and I have too many games and not enough patience to try to start a collection list using something else.

Yeah, that bites.

That sounds cool...

Well, that's a deal-breaker. I'll stick to Excel.

I use an MS Works spreadsheet to keep track of release dates, my wishlist, backlog, favorites, purchase dates, price I'll bite at, score, platform and genre. For unowned games, I include a url to a well-narrowed-down eBay search, so I can check values effortlessly with a copy and paste.

I backup my important files daily using Cobian Backup.

I have tons of games on my collection across many platforms, and I know which games I have and which I don't from the top of my head.

But I love to use Delicious Library anyway. I find it amusing.

I've been using IGN for several years but after looking this thread over, I'm trying some of the other services as well. So far I like Delicious Library the best. Sucks about the iPhone app though.
