I prefer cake but yeast can be good as well. For yeast I go to Dough I usually get the Chocolate Salted Caramel and their Dough of the Day (which was Blueberry Lemon last I went) their Passion Fruit, Lemon Poppyseed, Hibiscus and Cafe au Lait are some other favs of mine. Oh and their Passion Fruit filled doughnut is amaziiing, a nice tart oozy mess. For cake doughnuts I go to Doughnut Plant their Carrot Cake, Tres Leche, Blackout and Coffee are all solid choices as far as their staple cake variety goes. They typically have two new (or seasonal?) flavors a month so I tend to try those. They also have small filled doughnuts (doughseeds) and really good yeast ones too, recently had their Peanut Butter and Banana Creme, not a big fan of bananas but I did enjoy this. I recently tried the Sour Cream doughnut at Peter Pan Donut & Pastry Shop, quite good and appropriately priced to boot ($1.10)

These look like gingerbread houses that kids at my school used to make in kindergarten classes around Christmas where they just throw bulk candy onto an icing covered house. Non merci.

I prefer cake donuts. Sour cream is my favorite although Krispy Kream's carrot cake is delicious.

I prefer cream filled. I love donuts and chocolate milk.

Generally prefer yeast but cake can be awesome too. Chocolate cake leaves me unimpressed though; sour cream, blueberry, krullers are where it's at.

I think my absolute favorite is the Pretzel donut at a local bakery. It's basically a yeast glazed donut but when they do the twist, the rope itself gets twisted creating these crevasses where the glaze gets trapped when applied. It comes out crispy and flaky on the outside, fluffy in the middle, and a nice thick layer of glaze with some soaked into the folds. Heaven.

Cream filled generally. If the store is using homemade jelly/jam that's generally superior to the average jelly donut which is usually all kinda of fake tasting.

Milk. Always milk.
