How do You overcome laziness?

Plies

I've always been pretty lazy , but lately I've been EXTREMELY lazy and unmotivated for everything. Like sleeping for over 12 hours a day, going to bed at like 4am etc.

I've never been able to wake up well for missionary work, always super late and I get driven too even though it's 5 mins away.

I really don't know how I'll handle all the demands of my work this summer and I'll really appreciate some tips on how to improve my laziness as my colleagues expect high results.

I feel like it's partly due to poor mental health. I even can't be bothered doing basic everyday things and let all my "chores" pile up.
Thanks :)

Something like a chore chart, but for everyday things can help. I also found that when I was cycling every morning I was in general more motivated about most other things.

You are depressed. Been there, done that.

Get some Vitamin D3 pills, the bigger, the better. Open the blinds/curtains for at least 3 hours a day. Take an SSRI if you have to. Go to work or work on your yard/car/bike/garage. Don't watch or engage with any content less than a hour before you want to be asleep.

Some options are:

1) Accept your laziness and dwell in it. At some point the resulting lack of self-worth might outweigh your apathy and motivate change.
2) Do what you don't want to do anyway.
2a) Exercise. It makes other things seem trivial in effort. I'll put off tasks that literally take two seconds for days>go exercise>come back home and knock them out with no thought

Lazy or a medical condition? Get checked out first, but it could be a lot of different conditions.

Also, how is your diet? If you eat a lot of ultra processed foods then that could be the issue.

Maybe a bit personal, but are you overweight? How much exercise do you do daily?

If all the above is fine, then you need to develop discipline.

Mike Tyson said it best;

"Discipline is doing what you hate to do, but nonetheless doing it like you love it."

Wise words and ones that I follow. I don't like getting up at 5AM to go to the gym. I don't like walking 1.5 miles to the gym, especially in the winter. I really hate back and bicep day. I don't love my work. However, I do it with the enthusiasm of if I loved it.

It takes time. But once you get into a routine getting up at the crack of dawn just becomes normal. You just need to force yourself to do it first, and starting it off is always the hardest part.
