How does preordering digitally work on PS4?

I usually purchase all my games physical, but the digital perks with the Black Ops II Deluxe Edition might entice me to get the digital version. (BO3 items in AW)

So, if I choose to preorder from PSN, how does it work?

- Does Sony withdrawal the funds from my bank at the time of the preorder, or when the game officially releases?
- If the funds are accessed at the time of the preorder, is it a temporary authorization or do you pay for the game in full at the time of the preorder?
- If I had to cancel the preorder BEFORE the game comes out, is that an option?
- Do most games have the predownload feature, where I can download the game a few days before launch and then play right at midnight?

Thanks everyone!

You pay full whack the moment you pre-order. (edit: apparently not in EU, only when start download)
EU lets you cancel pre-orders, not sure US does.
Pre-download is random, some games let you, some do not. I assume BO3 would let you being a major release, but don't assume it will 100%.

You pay upfront in full, non refundable.

Not all games have preload, but usually if a game has a preorder (not many do) it will preload a few days (very few) before the release.

Only preorder if you are very, very sure you want the game. Just...in general and also in this situation.

They take the money right away and its the full amount.
There is a pre-load for most AAA games and it usually says Day 1 Digital Pre Load Supported for the one that have it.
You can cancel in Euro apparently but not in NA

EU doesn't charge you until the pre-load starts a couple of days before release.

I've only used it for driveclub and the witcher and both times worked fine.
I ordered in advance and then a few days before release the pre-load would start and I'd be charged (based on the price when I ordered not the price when it launched. Witcher had its price bumped up a bit and I still payed what I ordered at).

When launch date hits a PS Notification pops up saying the game is ready to be played.

I'm in US. From the responses so far, seems like it's charged at the time of the purchase and non-refundable.

That is correct. Personally I buy physical because these things are deal-breakers to me. You'd be better off buying Best Buy's Gamer's Club Unlocked and continuing to buy physical.

True. Same experience here with Destiny and Dragon Age. Both were charged a day or two before the release, and both were downloaded by midnight when they were unlocked.

I'm just waiting for the announcement of the BO 3 Deluxe physical edition. Maybe after E3.

completely untrue- you present a valid case and you can get refunds- I have on a few occasions

-Driveclub was refunded 3 days after launch
-PS+ free game was charged to me-got that refunded
-Bought a game that went on sale later that day-and was refunded the full amount of money and got to keep digital copy (Lego marvel Super heroes) through email correspondence

ymmv-

I have only done it for Bloodborne. I waited until the banner ad in the PSN store advertised that there was a pre-load available. It downloaded maybe 48 hours prior to the game's release. A countdown clock then appeared on the game in my dash board a few hours prior to midnight. Once the clock struck 12:00am, the timer hit 0, and I was able to play.

Don't pre-order when it makes you pay immediately.

Just order physical from Amazon, free cancellation any time and still day one.

Edit: Nvm, digital perks. Which is silly as hell.

Basically the only advantage to doing a digital preorder is the ability to play the game the SECOND it officially releases.

If you're not gonna be playing the game the second it unlocks at midnight (or whenever) then probably not worth it

I pre-order on my UK and US accounts and in the US you're essentially pre-buying the game rather than pre-ordering due to paying when you order and giving up your right to cancel. In the UK it is a pre-order with payment taken a day or two before release and you can cancel the pre-order up to that point from your PSN account. It's really simple to do.

There's been occasions that I've used my US account purely because I had money then and I knew that I probably wouldn't at release so it benefitted me to had over the cash them. I can get US PSN cards at almost cost price so it can be cheaper in the US too.

That, and the convenience of not needing the disc for quick gaming bursts. Works well with Driveclub.

Works well with every game. I can't stand using discs. Every game I purchase for current gen has been, and will continue to be digital. I already spent my $100 on the digital version of BLOPS3. Although for my Xbox Ones instead of my PS4.

I usually buy those games digitally, that I'll be playing for longer periods of time, but I prefer to collect horror games in a physical form, which is why I bought Bloodborne on retail.

EDIT: And the digital versions don't unfortunately come with soundtracks and concept art. I wish they'd change that.

Preload is really nice, but PSN store messed up my license-restoring capability for two months on a preload, so I'm kind of over that.

Still will do for digital-only games, because why not

So the EU has an option to cancel but not NA? SMH...

I'm all physical... guess this thread helped me too. Looks like I will not change for a longggggg time.

And people still pre-order this way?

I can understand pre-ordering a few days or maybe the week before release if you're 100% you want the game. But ordering months before with no way out?
