Thank you... You sons of biatches!!

After looking at a movie recommendations thread here
Audition found it's way into my NETFLIX weekend

After seeing Kikujiro last weekend I wanted to try some more movies bad idea to read GAF for this.

We have so really sick people here
:lol

I don't think I will ever feel the same way about cute Japanese Girls again...

I still hear her saying "Deeper... Deeper..." in that sick little cute voice

I paused the DVD at the leg part made a mistake and hit play again and she is doing it with a big Smile on her face... I need to puke now fuuuck

Pussy... that is the tame Miike stuff!

BTW: Are you a guy? I wrote a pretty interesting paper for my senior thesis about the male viewer's stake in Audition, and how the iconoclastic view Miike takes towards genre conventions destroy your expectations, making that last scene more jarring to male viewers. Watch it again, but think about what makes you feel what you feel while watching it and you might get a better idea. It is violence as pornography.

You might want to read a great book on men and horror called "Men, Women, and Chainsaws" -- great film recommendations, and incredibly smart subtextual analysis of the male dominated horror (slasher, rape/revenge, etc.) Amazon has it cheap.

I thought of tubgirl when I read the topic.

So what is this scene? spoiler tag please and put a warning if it's tubgril-ish. I don't need to put myself through that again.

Pussy my FOOT! /pun

Horror is my most hated genre I find no entertainment in it...
I was thinking this was one of those tame little movies

Now I find myself very curious about what she will do next. Her smile is amazing

Miike is a sick bastard as an artist I have to give him props

His "girlfriend" tortures him.
To get into her motivations is a bit too involved for this forum. I don't think anyone would really care.

cute girl above is cute and shy throughout the movie
She turns out to be a killer.

scene - she drugged the guy now she is sticking long metal needles into his flesh while saying deeper deeper - then into his eyes - now takes a metal piano wire that cuts meat and bones sawing off his foot at the ankles... most disturbing image I have seen in a film because she smiles and looks so damn cute during it AHHHHHHH

Now she says "RIGHT FOOT PLEASE" with a sweet ass smile about to cut the other foot
All my Japan loving dreams have been shattered

glad it fucked somebody else up. I was sitting there squirming in my seat, almost unable to watch. Its the combination of 'real' horror - i.e. something you can imaging actually happening, and the person doing it.

Really really nasty, and way more disturbing than any blood-fest nonsense.

taking the other Takashi Miike movies out of my netflix queue
Ichi the Killer should have given me a clue about Audition

just read up on him in another GAF thread wish I saw that first I would have never seen Audition.

not saying it's a bad film but if this is tame compared to the others I really don't want to know
I don't like images like that in my head.

I will stick with Takeshi Kitano movies thank you GAF

damn I am disturbed I need some funny anime

So the idea of your only source of food being someone elses vomit isn't f'cked up to you?

Not to be a dick or anything, but if you hate horror movies, why didn't the cover turn you off? It pretty much tips you off what you're getting into. Giant needle, thick rubber gloves... cleary you can tell it's not about flowers and puppies.

No.

The movie was underwhelming, and I found it to be a waste of my time.

Very true, I'm sure people are just praising it because it's asian horror, I doubt it'd get the same amount of praise if it had been made in the west.

Oh, man. I'm so watching this.

That goes both ways... I'm sure there are those who feel the need to criticize it simply because people like it and because it's from asia. Belgurdo does it all the time with Japanese games.

Why is it that people rave and rave about films like Ringu, but films like this are considered "the worst of Japanese horror"?

I actually think that Audition is one of Miike's better films. There are less random/crazy scenes, everything flows well and the acting really does give you a feeling of how isolated and alone the characters are feeling. I would rather see Miike do more "serious" films like this than what we are seeing from him now with films like Rikkai(sp?); but considering that the film supposedly garnered some level of criticism in Japan for appearing too "western" in how direct it was, I doubt that will happen.

What I liked most most about Audition is that despite it being "horror" in genre, there really is a sad sentiment throughout the film expressed for all of the characters involved. The girl is a totally deranged psycho, but you can't help but feel some level of sympathy for her too. I would guess that anyone who would go so far as to label this a "horrible" film either is not meant for the horror genre of Japanese films themselves or into that genre for other reasons (an expectation for major blood and guts fests like in Ichi the Killer).

Anyways, for me the grossest scene was when she feeds her "slave" that bowl of what appeared to be puke. That was the sickest scene in the whole film to me (moreso than the needles). Ewww just remembering it makes me sick to my stomach. >_<

I would bet money that isamu would get wood if he were that guy.

Has problems recognising girls
Miike, did he make a film called The Happiness of the Kataguri's/Kutugari's or something like that? Some weird arse zombie dancing flick that was way off the wall.

Agreed. It was boring for an hour and a half, crap for the last half an hour, and felt like it lasted nearly 4 hours.

That is not the cover I saw on Netflix if that help you understand
I posted that image from Amazon

Another cover has an image of the girl sitting in the audition chair does not give away much as a horror flick vibe seeing it

Netflix has a tiny image of the needle cover but it did not come out at me because I saw the Audition cover first.

audition_photo_1.jpg

someone posted a large image of this... and I added the movie without thinking twice about it

the other reason why the small needle image may have passed is because I spend lots of times in hospitals so a woman with a large needle has not scared me since I was 5 years old
Needles are things I am very used to seeing so does not equal horror to me

I watched this and Love and Pop tonight. Both were absolutely horrid wastes of time. They did subtitle something with "WTF!" in Love and Pop, and Tadanobu Asano appeared so it was KIND of worth it...But Audition is pretty bad. The bag was the best part. The rest was the same 'ol generic shock horror. Rolly didn't even come in and rock out in the middle.

I watched that because someone told me it was depressing, and I like those types of movie. It turned out to be pretty bad as you said. Not really depressing either.

Now All About Lily Chou Chou. That's some depressing sh!t.

Rolly is such a badass, that stuff is so ace in Suicide Club. Ah well, I'm saddened by all the Audition hate.. I really liked it.

Audition was very predictable to me. I mean, you could tell
there was something really not quite right with the girl was it really that surprising that she ends up a psycho?
. Well directed, slick and stylish, but nothing exciting.

'Fudoh: The New Generation' was a bit of fun, though... Miike's a talented director, with a great sense for the shot, but the end product is more style than substance. Not that it's necessarily such a bad thing.

I never saw the movie, but I like the song (inspired by the movie). I guess I really need to see it to truly make the connection...

No my subtitles says - Deeper Deeper -

Netflix is a funny company who knows what version that was...

Maybe the theatrical print I saw had a different translation than the DVD.

I thought "Deeper Deeper" was a sexual reference
I've seen that translated like that many times in Japanese Adult movies

So I was thinking it was her way of getting back at men

> Ill Saint its not that I could not predict that she
was going to turn out bad for the guy during the film I even though yeah she killed someone she's a killer... But I could never dream the movie would turn out like - I was thinking pyscho from american film standards not Miike nutcase standards
