Yeah, I'm a random person in the world who finds him crazy-annoying too, but I "get" why people like him/the show, and I really don't understand why people can't just leave it at that (particularly since most of us are presumably older than 14)

Here's *my* thing about BBT: People get justifiably irritated when folks show an irrational hate for this random sitcom, but more than once, I've encountered this reverse-hatred thing where people won't get off of my case about why I don't love it. Seriously, I've received legit crap/confusion from people regarding why I don't bow down to this show just because I like "nerdy" things, and it's just as bad (if not worse) than people who get all holier-than-thou about its humor being beneath them. Freaking annoying, and I hate wasting time talking to them about something so silly.

Then you should get away from those people. People acting like you're abnormal just because you don't like a show are assholes, just as people who can't accept that you might like it are too. I have to say I have never met the kind of people you've mentioned. The closest I've seen is actually me, and even then, I was only screwing with one of my friends who likes to act all cool ("I don't like it... But I watch it from time to time when nobody's looking").

What I'd like to know is who this show appeals to. It obviously doesn't appeal to people who consider themselves actual nerds, and people who don't care about nerds or nerd culture probably wouldn't want to watch a show about nerds. So who are the people watching it? What are the demographics for this show?

Try again. Pretty much all my friends who love the show fall somewhere on the nerd spectrum (including myself). Though obviously the show cannot reach 15-20M people per episode on the back of geeks, so it just has mass appeal. I even got my parents to watch a bit of it (though not much more as they don't like subtitled shows). So, to answer your question: it appeals to all kinds of people.

The timing is off without the laugh track, which is what makes it odd. If they acted without a live audience, the timing and rhythm would be completely different. That is the major flaw in any video like that where they simply remove the laugh track.

Well not really. I don't think you'd find many sitcoms with audience laughter that work as well if you remove it. The adage that comedy comes down to timing is true.

I hate sitcoms but like this show, it's good for watching in 30 minute spurts. It's certainly better than any other sitcom in the past, and it makes up time for when serious tv comes back. Come on breaking bad!

Because I refuse to take the high road when people consistently shit on something I enjoy at least once a month if not biweekly There will be a thread about BBT being unfunny. At some point it gets grating having to watch people condemn a show for having its own humor that they don't enjoy and sometimes not even having watched the show themselves but merely chucking it under the bus because it is in Internet fashion to hate this show. That cannot be denied.

Those Sheldon pics are amazing.

The main asshole on the show isn't Sheldon, it's Rajesh. He's socially awkward and hates his life, yet anytime he's given recognition for something he turns into an obnoxious dickhead. On top of that, he tried to steal his 'best friend''s girlfriend, was hoping she would turn down his proposal and was gleeful about him getting his heart broken. They changed him from one of the most likable characters on the show into whatever the fuck he's supposed to be now.
Actually, come to think of it, there are literally no likable characters on the show except maybe Amy.

I'm just watching sherlock and it hit me. Sherlock and Sheldon are pretty much alike. But Sherlock actually is intelligent while Sheldon hasn't shown a sign of intelligence since season 1. He gets consistently outsmarted by every other cast member and gets dumber by the minute. I'd say he is by far the least intelligent character on that show and that includes penny.
