I noticed that this hasn't been asked before, and am curious to see what you'll all say.
How long do controllers normally last you? A few months? A year? Two? More?
I've gone through about six or seven controllers for one system in the last decade (NOT FROM BREAKAGE apart from one), counting my current one and one that I sold with a console. One had a broken button and had to go, while my current one is going strong and has for two years. I have a brand new one still sitting in its protective gauze, but don't need it.
I also still have (in good shape, too) the first controllers I bought for other devices. My Wiimote collection still contains the first two I bought, plus a couple I got for free with games. Same with the nunchuks.
I've only ever really dropped two last-gen controllers. One chipped slightly, but is okay, whereas the other has a scrape. It's the two year-old one mentioned above. I take great care, but they slipped out of my hand while I was above the tile floor. Not far above, though.
That said, I don't eat or drink near them, clean them regularly and keep them in drawers. No kids touch them, and I wash my hands very well.
Before, I was washing my hands 3x with Dove soap (with the moisturizer in it) before gaming, and that was coming out in my sweat and hardening on my controllers. Same with hand sanitizer, so I stopped using both. So I have two working but worn and dirty controllers just sitting there that should go out, but I keep them in case people will come over, which never happens.
