How many roguelikes/lites have you ever finished?

I've put a good amount of time into Rogue Legacy, Spelunky and Binding of Isaac Rebirth and really like them a lot. Also Big Sky Infinity, Really Big Sky, Abyss Odyssey, FTL and Organ Trail's endless mode. I've got a few others like Heroes of Loot & Nuclear Throne that I like. Used to have Azure Dreams on PS1, but didn't totally understand it back then.

The only one I've ever "finished" is Isaac, but I say finished in the loosest sense. I'm never going to hit Platinum God. Doesn't really matter. I would probably play it more regularly if Afterbirth would come to my platforms.

I have so much stuff to play that I can't really focus on just those games forever, as much as I'd like to. Any of these games would have been a godsend to me as a kid/teenager, though and I never delete games like this because I always want them on-hand for when the mood strikes.

only Spelunky

while I've certainly tried many others (and enjoyed a lot of them), Spelunky was the only one I ever put enough time in to beat.

pretty much the only thing I didn't do in Spelunky was hit 1 million gold, but I never found abusing the ghost stuff to be any fun, just tedious.

I think I finished one run of FTL. Beyond that, I've only ever made significant progress in OG Isaac, killed Satan at least once, and got to the chest. I was so into it for a long time, then my interest just ceased.

I've beaten Olmec once. My partner has beaten him literally a hundred times. I really admire Spelunky's overall design.

Looped Nuclear Throne a bunch but there's always further to go. Game gives me Warhawk-like feels; I think it's the screenshake.

I believe BOI is truly beaten when players achieve 100%. Which I haven't done & probrably never will.

Did not care for Rogue Legacy. I blame the art.

Looking foward to Neuro Voider & Enter the Gungeon.

My favorite genre.

Adventure or Roguelike mode?

Adventure. Not for lack of trying on Roguelike mode, but that had a tendency to end messily about halfway through the campaign.

People who are actually good at roguelikes and play on high difficulties or with self-imposed challenges mystify me.

The only roguelikelike I've ever finished a run of is ToeJam & Earl. Was real nice getting home to Funkotron.

Ah hell, how did I forget about TJ&E.

I beat Downwell last year, that was incredibly satisfying... It took me about 10 hours on Steam.

I saw This War of Mine mentioned here, I did beat that. It took me about 10 tries and 24 hours. Then came back a year later and beat it again easily. I don't know that I'd call TWoM a roguelike, it has permadeath but the randomness is pretty limited. It's a fantastic game either way.

I beat invisible inc on Beginner and Experienced mode, but I don't feel like it's a true roguelike until you reach Expert mode. So I don't really count that.

Otherwise, every goddamn roguelike I've played has destroyed me. I'm mostly ok with that, but losing to the final boss of FTL was a real kick in the balls.
I couldn't fucking believe it when the second form was revealed. That was some real sadistic shit.

Well, ToME is not really balanced for that mode, some Uniques can be rolled with attributes that make them nearly unkillable or just able to wreck your shit in half a turn. Obviously that means that beating it in Roguelike is that much more thrilling.

I will use this thread to tout the merits of Space Grunts. Like Nuclear Throne and Super Crate Box had a roguelite baby. Good, fast fun.

Only Rogue Legacy. Im loving Darkest Dungeon tho so im sure I'll finish it eventually

I have 60 hours in FTL - only one I can think of. I've beaten it once on easy and once on normal and within the last few hours I finally unlocked the crystal ship - meaning I now have all base ship types unlocked.

edit: Oh yeah, Rogue Legacy also.

None of them. According to Steam, I've put in about 2 hours into Bind of Isaac. 3 hours into Rogue Legacy, and 10 hours in FTL. I'm kind of surprised by the latter's playtime because it definitely felt like an eternity longer than 10 hours. I guess I don't have a lot of patience for the genre.

I beat Dragon Crystal on the Sega Mega Drive.
Plus I guess Final Fantasy X-2 Final Mission counts too.

I always wanted to get Dragon Crystal when I had a Game Gear. Wish I had. It was on the fold-out poster that came with my system and looked cool af.

Forgot about Toe Jam & Earl mentioned ITT too. That was my first random/procedural anything, persistence or not.

I never got around to buy Timestalkers for Dreamcast either. I didn't know until years later it was by the Landstalker/Alundra/Dark Savior dudes.

Played a bunch, finished exactly zero. I don't know why, probably like the OP, it annoys my OCD tendencies with games. I can appreciate 'em, but I generally get sick of them before seeing them to completion.

I could beat FTL almost 100% of the time on "Easy". I beat Normal a couple times too, but never liked it because of how often it just becomes impossible.

Beat Risk of Rain enough to unlock everything, I think

I have 1001% (full completion) in Binding of Isaac Rebirth

I don't remember exactly how it works, but I went up to something like NG+3 in Rogue Legacy

Finished Ziggurat on Normal with almost every character (missing one of the new ones), also did Hard once

I only ever beat it once. Although as a 10 year old still see it as a decent achievement. In hindsight I was very lucky though, the item you need to find on the last level spawned in the same room I started in. So even though I was surrounded by enemies I managed to grab it before I was killed.

I beat Fatal Labyrinth for the Sega Genesis. Was super frustrating and not much fun but I did beat it. Combat was clunky and it sometimes felt like the game was out to get me with it's damn randomization. And the lack of story kinda bugged me because I went in expecting another experience similar to Phantasy Star 2. Not one of my favorite genres, but I did quite enjoy Chocobo's Dungeon for the Wii.

Dungeons of Dredmor
Rogue Legacy (metroidvania-roguelike hybrid and not really all that good)

Victory in Crypt of the Necrodancer and Spelunky continue to elude me, something goes wrong every time I get deep, and currently attacking Darkest Dungeon and doing OK.

None. The roguelike genre is for rabid masochists with a lot of time on their hands.

I probably put 75-100 hours into FTL,
and the only time I ever beat it was when I started backing up my save-files so I wouldn't lose a good run to random bullshit. The downfall of these games is that you never learn much about endgame encounters because it takes so long to get to endgame, and then you die on a boss/enemy you've never seen and lose an immense amount of progress.

:D

I've only 100% a rougelike, which was Binding of Isaac Rebirth. I've also beaten Rouge Legacy to the end and I've finished a few ships in FTL but not all.

Wish I could say that I've defeated Spelunky, but sadly, that is not the case. Great game that has great multiplayer too.

Platinum'd Rogue Legacy. Tried others but it's the only one that hooked me. Probably how it plays like a Metroidvania, which I love.

Played most of the big ones, but have never finished one. Hmmmm. Maybe I'll stop buying them.

They are fun, though. I just can't stay interested long enough to get through the end when they become grindfests.

That is a damn hard Platinum too with the special bosses and beating it in under what 10 deaths?

I've only beaten Rogue Legacy but that was pretty easy since stats did carry over. Could never get past the final boss in FTL and most other games like Binding of Isaac and Spelunky never grabbed me.

Well yeah, FTL was my first and only roguelike aside from maybe 10-20 hours in Spelunky.

I think roguelikes are kind of like MMORPGs. The first one you play is completely spellbinding and magical. But slowly you begin to see the seams. You start to realize the only reason you've invested a monumental amount of time is because of artificial restrictions that the developer imposed to unnaturally extend playtime. It dawns on you that although you've played 50 hours, probably 40 of those hours were spent trudging through early-game content that you could beat in your sleep because permadeath forces you to replay that content again and again.

Once you've seen and acknowledged those deep flaws in the genre, it's really difficult to go back and enjoy yourself.

I'm probably the only person on GAF who's beaten Sword of the Stars: The Pit.

Makes me feel like the man.

Shiren the Wanderer and Baroque

Both are great.

I'd never heard of Shiren the Wanderer til last year... I'd love a localization of 5 Plus, but I guess that's just something that doesn't happen.

Hell yeah, beating any roguelike at 10 y/o is no joke imo.

I did using an engineer on Normal, pre-DLC. Gaddamn that game is hard. Don't think I could do it again.

I've completed Binding of Isaac and FTL. Still working on getting to end of current content on Caves of Qud.

99 Levels to Hell
Abyss Odyssey
Risk of Rain
Rogue Legacy
Spelunky
The Binding of Isaac
FTL
Tower of Guns
One Way Heroics

Loved them all. A really want a AAA studio to tackle the rogue genre with really deep RPG mechanics.

Spelunky (once, with help from the Tunnel Man)

Hack (once)

Nethack (once)

Larn (once)

With the exception of Spelunky, I more or less stopped playing once I beat them the first time. Spelunky still holds my interest, and I've played the daily challenge almost every day.

Ive unlocked almost everything in Binding of Issac and beaten all the final bosses multiple times. So that BoI I guess

Binding of Isaac/Rebirth - a bunch of times.
FTL - once, too stressful for me.
Rogue Legacy - got the platinum for this one.

And finally:

Risk of Rain - my favorite of the bunch. I played this game a ton on PC and unlocked everything there is to unlock. Absolutely wonderful game.

Depending on what you mean by "Finished," i've gotten to the "end" of:

Risk of Rain
Rogue Legacy
Eldritch
Binding of Issac

I own way more than that though.

None
Although I really love rogue legacy I just suck at it.
The binding of Isaac is another I should finish but didnt click to me as much as R.L
