How many SNES Classics would sell if there was no production shortage?

The NES Classic sold 1.5 million and could easily have tripled that if there were more out there. I'm going with 6-8 million for the SNES Classic as what it could do with no issue.

I wouldn't mind it if they were announcing plans to bring any of this stuff to Switch outside of their plans to maybe-someday add it to the library that Nintendo Network subscribers get access to.

As it is you feel pressured to buy this limited-run box if you want to play a (legit) version of StarFox 2, that'll take up space on my gaming shelf.

Almost as though they're banking that you'll buy them on day one when they're released on Switch, if you don't get the classic.

They'd hit millions but they want some level of shortage to give it that limited appeal for publicity. If they'd put out an ID system like Nike ID where I could buy the machine with 20 games from a bigger list I'd probably get two.

If it was readily available during the thanksgiving holidays it would sell 1-2mil that weekend alone I'd bet.

5-10 million over a year or two sounds reasonable, the Nes classic and the Snes are the perfect price for gifts for birthdays and Christmas.

Definitely think it would be in the millions worldwide. Especially sell well in the UK methinks. I sincerely hope they make enough. I won't preorder but it really should be widely enough available that you can go into a shop and buy one near Xmas. No excuse after they've seen the demand for the NES and to me this is a far more tempting prospect in terms of games I genuinely want to play and could enjoy.

It's possible it won't be as bad this time...maybe.

So... We'll have more, but still be short?

Uhh.... Thanks Nintendo?

I hope Nintendo understands that even if these games arrive for the Switch, switch owners will still double dip.

I'd say a cool 8-9 million could be sold if supply were not constrained and production lasted a full year.

I'd love one of these since Ive never owned a Snes but I fear they'll sell out the day pre-orders are opened. Hope they only allow one per person.

Couple of million maybe, as the upper limit i think.
NES Classic sold in 2.3 million units before production ended (demand was nowhere to be satisfied).
SNES Classic is expected to have bigger shipments.

That said 20M+ in two years is crazy.

They would sell a lot. And Nintendo could use all that extra change instead of letting resellers bank the aftermarket profit.

Mock me if you want, but this exact pattern unfolded with Amiibo. Short-stocked by retailers (because toys-to-life had flatlined), bought up in a frenzy, restocks bought up by scalpers, and now the market has leveled out.

If we were talking about Amiibo, sure.

However, this is much more inline with the NES Classic, and we all know how that turned out.

There's no way in hell you'll be snapping this up for bargain bin prices EVER.

For your edification.

I expect 3 million at launch. As an ever green, they cold sell 10 mill. Its on impulse buy territory AND it features a brand new game never released.

Wait wait it's already been announced? FUCK! I don't know how I missed it. I swore to myself that I would be a fucking hawk on it and go preorder that shit the minute the stores would make that possible. I'm fucking crushed. Super Castlevania and Megaman X... I would even get one from a scalper if I actually had a job but since I'm unemployed no chance.

Edit:
Oh it was just announced? Whew then just maybe, MAYBE I pre-ordered in time. Not holding my breath but at least it was on the same day as it was announced.

They could multiply their brand awareness by selling them in countries where consoles are cost prohibitive.

Maybe they already thought of that and decided it wasn't worth it. It's a more interesting side-business than mobile IMO

Anyways I hope they can get their components issues straightened out.

Less than whatever the NES classic would have managed if not cut short. The NES sold better than the SNES and as a result there's more nostalgia for it.

That logic isn't very sound though.

SNES was last available twenty years. Not to mention people who grew up during that era that only had a Genesis and now want to experience the SNES.

The market has grown significantly. Look at how hot Super Nintendo collecting is. Some of the most sought after games from a collector/gamer standpoint are from the SNES era.

No lies, if both the SNES Classic and Switch had absolutely no shortages, the SNES would outsell the Switch over the holidays.

If supply is not an issue, 50 million units or above. Dead serious. Makes for a great gift, one of the most prevalent consoles of our childhood, very solid game selection.
