How many times have you double dipped?

As many Gaffers are stating over the GTAV thread they are buying their console of choice version and then double dipping into a Pc/Next-gen copy when it comes out.

I got somehow burned of it, buying day 1 some games, specially not AAA games, downloadable ones over console and had to buy again on PC because they abandoned the game without any patch or with worst netcode, less content, poor performance and hell lots of issues. I'm thinking 512 times beforehand considereing a buy on any middle size games on consoles these days.

They go, promote, sell, make some cash (or crash) and go with the definitive version somewhere else. I know what it calls, and is a beta version >:(

How many times you supported a game that left you over and released a so called definitive version latter?

I bought the Alan Wake X360 CE literally the day before the PC version appeared in the registry, the (digital) CE of which I also bought upon release. You're welcome, Remedy!

I'd like to address the thread title more broadly, but there'd be too many cases to list, I think.

Two Worlds. Triple dipped. Oh god why

Can't say I've bought too many games that have a "definitive version" elsewhere unless any game that releases a GOTY version counts. If anything it's been stuff like Street Fighter and other fighting games that re-release with new content.

(Counter Strike GO as well. Bought it on the 360 originally because I didn't think it would run on my PC)

modern warfare 1 and 2 - for 360/ps3 and pc

will buy gta5 twice as well, one copy for ps3 and a copy for the ps4. feelin good.

I went from around 2005 - 2012 without a proper gaming PC, so I've picked up loads of my favourite console games from that period and some of my favourite earlier PC titles in various sales since building my PC.

I have dark souls for ps3 and pc, even though I haven't played it much on either.

Chrono Trigger I've had on snes, ps1, but that I'm not sure that counts as double dipping since it's all years apart.

Only by mistake. Get home with new game and realise I bought it a while ago and somehow forgot to play it and forgot that I owned it. Has happened more than once... :/

Man I've bought X-com: UFO defense so many times. I had it on floppy then upgraded to CD, then I bought the shitty playstation port, then I bought the Xcom disc set in the 90s and then purchased it on steam and on gog.

I guess I've bought Borderlands three times, PS3, platinumed solo, bought on 360 when my buddy wanted to play, rebought on PS3 when another friend wanted to play.

Let's see, games I've double-dipped on:

Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen (SNES, PS1)
Final Fantasy IV (SNES, GBA, PSP, PS1, DS)
Final Fantasy VI (SNES, PS1)
Final Fantasy V (PS1, GBA)
Chrono Trigger (SNES, PS1, DS)
Alpha Protocol (360, PC)
Alan Wake (360, PC)
Titan Quest (PC x2)
Knights of the Old Republic (XBox, PC, iPad)
Knights of the Old Republic 2 (XBox, PC x2)
Jade Empire (XBox, PC)
Borderlands (360 x2, PC)
Fallout 3 (360 x2, PC)
Fallout: New Vegas (360, PC)
Baldur's Gate (PC x2, iPad)
Baldur's Gate 2 (PC x2)
Icewind Dale (PC x2)
Final Fantasy VII (PS1, PSN)
Final Fantasy IX (PS1, PSN)
Grandia (PS1, PSN)
Diablo 2 (PC x2)
Witcher 2 (360, PC)
Deadly Premonition (360, PS3)
Saint's Row The Third (PS3, PC)
Dark Souls (PS3, PC)
Neverwinter Nights 2 (PC x2)
Tales of Abyss (PS2, 3DS)
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment (PS1, PSN)
Persona 2: Innocent Sin (PSP, PSN)
Persona (PS1, PSN)
Persona 3 (PS2, PSN)
Lunar: Silver Star (Sega CD, PS1)
Lunar: Eternal Blue (Sega CD, PS1)
Shining Force: Sword of Hayja (Game Gear, Sega CD)
Darksiders (360, PC)
Skyrim (360, PC)
Sacred 2 (PC x2)

If we're counting combo packages, you can throw in Phantasy Star 2-4 (Genesis, 360) and Shining Force 1-2 (Genesis, 360).

I swear, sometimes I feel like all I'm doing is buying the same games over and over and over.

Lessee here.

DMC3, DMC3 special edition, DMC HD Collection.

Silent Hill 2 PS2, Silent Hill 2 director's cut, Silent Hill 2 PC, HD collection.

MGS2, MGS2 Substance PC, MGS2 Substance PS2, MGS HD Collection PS3 (Vita PS+)

Kingdom Hearts 2 US import, PAL Release, Final Mix release (upcoming HD release!)

Resident Evil 2 PS1, RE2 Gamecube, RE2 EU PSN, RE2 US PSN

I think those are the biggest offenders for me that come to mind.

A lot.

This gen: Fallout 3, GTA IV (triple dipped), BF3, Portal 2, Half Life 2 (triple dipped), Deus Ex HR, Borderlands, Oblivion, and probably another half a dozen more that don't come to mind.

That's not including countless older games that I've bought through Steam sales. I hate $5 games because I just can't help myself.

Too often (okami, okami hd, metal gear solid 2+3, then metal gear hd etc etc...),

the worst case was Ssx Tricky. I bought it, then sold it for SSX 3, with the idea that 3 would be better. I was wrong, not that 3 was bad but it was just that Tricky had something special, with courses like Mesablanca, Alaska and the like. So I bought back Tricky and sold 3. But then my brother played 3 and I bought 3 again. Then I sold my PS2 so I also sold Tricky and 3.

Then when my PS3 60Gb was dead and I bought a BC-less slim, I rebought a PS2 and yeah, because Tricky isn't on PSN (it should!) I rebought Tricky.

To make a long story short: Tricky is one of my favorite games (and it should have a HD version because SSX PS3 / 360 is crap)

God, countless times. What with PC bundles of games, sales that make it worth picking up the superior version, or the occasional late port. Easily double dipped dozens of times.

RE2
RE4
RE5
RE6
RE Revelations
Battlefield Bad Company 2
Street Fighter 4

And uh I guess every MGS game due to the HD collection so same with shadow of the colossus / ico, Zone of the Enders 1 and 2.

All those final fantasy rereleases and remakes I keep buying. I own 3 versions of FF4 and I almost bought the virtual console version :X

Have triple dipped and hardly touched the games. On different format that is, and resold before buying a new copy, GOTY, etc.

Dark Souls, almost accidentally (PS3, PC). I only played on PC to the end. I don't even regret paying twice.

Chrono trigger (JPN/NTSC) on SNES
MH3(Wii)/MH3U(3DS)?
Pikmin 1&2(GC/Wii)
Metroid Prime 1/2/3 with Trilogy(GC/WII)
Shadow of the Collosus (PS2&3)
Zone of the Enders 2 (PS2/3)
Resident Evil 4 (GC/Wii)

I think that's it although I feel like I'm missing something...

e: Oh yeah all the Wiiware/VC games!

Super Metroid (SNES/Wii/WiiU)
Kirby's Adventure (Wii/WiiU)
Toki Tori (Wii/Android)
Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64/GC(WW)/GC(anniversary edition)/3DS)
Majora's Mask (n64/GC)
Zelda 1 (GC/Wii)
Zelda 2 (GC/Wii)
Zelda 4 Swords + (GC JPN/GC PAL)
I think that's everything.

Demon's Souls: NTSC, PAL Black Phantom Edition
Dark Souls: PAL LE (PS3, 360), Prepare To Die Edition (360, PC)
Resident Evil 5: PAL LE (360), USA LE (PS3), Asian LE (360)
Metal Gear Rising: PAL (360), PAL LE (360)
Halo 3: PAL LE, PAL Legendary Edition
Gears of War: PAL, PAL LE Edition.

Never. I refuse. I think I have a complex. I almost didn't do the Origin bundle because I already have battlefield, and I haven't spent 16 bucks for the ultimate edition of battlefield, because I preordered the regular one so long ago.

Soooo you did double dip then?

I see we are the only ones for now, or somes didn't read the op.

Well he did ask two questions after all. No surprise most are answering the thread title.

I think I've double-dipped 3 times.

I first bought Oblivion on PC. When my X1800XT died, and had to downgrade to an X1650, I decided to just get the PS3 version, since it was cheap.

Bought The Orange Box on PS3, and later on down the road I bought the individual games from it on Steam when they went on sale.

And finally, I got UT3 on PS3 because I was amazed by the fact that it had mod support. Later got it on PC when it went on sale. Played it for barely an hour.

I bought the first three Hitman games in a bundle despite owning two of them already. I also have the XBLA version of Perfect Dark along my N64 cartridge. That's it I guess. I don't have much money available for gamss so I rather spend it on unfamiliar ones.

Willingly or not? A number have come from promo/humble bundles. Triple on OOT (N64 cart, Zelda Wind Waker bonus, Zelda CE) but I only bought one for OOT (N64 for £10; thank you Woolies).

One willing time I guess is Pikmin and Pikmin 2. I own both on Gamecube and Wii.

Tales of Syphonia I suppose once I found out the PAL version was crappy 50Hz and that I could buy a proper NTSC version for less than the trade-in value of the PAL version (of course had I held onto the PAL version I'd have gotten a lot more for it now but I wanted it out of my collection ASAP).

Pokemon Sapphire (JP, US (x2))
