How much alcohol can you stomach?

Not open for further replies.
If I'm trying to get a buzz of some sort I usually avoid beer because if I want to feel anything I have to drink enough to the point where I am a constant piss factory for the night. It isn't even worth it because it is usually wearing off throughout the night.

I usually drink vodka. Lately I've been mixing it with the new Minute Maid drink (the blueberry pomegranate), pretty smooth mix.

Other than that I am probably taking shots. I have yet to puke or drink to the point of a hangover (and I hope I can keep it that way). I HAVE woken up with sore muscles though, which kind of sucks.

As far as how much it takes me to get a buzz, I can take about 3 shots without feeling much at all. By 4 I'm kind of floaty and by 5 I'm goofy.

I'm interested in how alcohol affects us. I don't get mean, just goofy and more talkative.

You're either talking about stomaching over a LONG period of time (in that case, I can stomach a barrel of rubbing alcohol, it just takes me a while), the world fattest person or full of shit.
A large bottle of vodka is well over the ld50 of alcohol.

p.s.
My money is on the third option.

Let's get it straight, maybe I should have been more specific in my original post. I meant, in general a 1L bottle of Vodka, and I know there are much bigger than that. That is over a long period of time, from around maybe 1pm to 1am / 2am. And most of those drinks were diluted with Coke, and I only had a few shots towards the end of the night. So it's not really out of the ordinary. Like I said, I can only manage half a bottle in the same time period now.

Nowadays I can't drink at all... and it's great. I can get pissed cheaply.

In my better days I could destroy a whole stand of beer alone (24 bottles).

Don't really know. When I'm over my limits I'll just pass out and after that I don't remember anything about the night nor quantity of how much I actually drank. But I would say plenty.

Haha i love when people do that.

I had a friend from the states who was convinced that american beer was as strong as canadian beer. When he came up to visit a few months ago, he flipped out when he saw that we had a regular 40 of "Labatt Blue" at 10.5% at a freaking grocery store. Smirnoff ice's are 7.5% in canada, they're 4.5% in the states.
canadian beer is measured by volume while american is measured by weight.

our shit is stronger

Even over 4 hours it will kill most men.
20 shots will kill the average person.
A normal bottle of vodka has around 40 shots.
A normal person can metabolize around 1 drink per hour.
Once again, do the math.
Bullshit.

I had drunk that much since I had ÂŁ20 with me, and since ANY cocktail was ÂŁ2 in that club I kept on having Double JD and Coke. My friend later bought me 2 shots of something else, though I can't remember what they were.

I do mostly drink whiskey neat though, but for that particular night I chose not to (thankfully).

Damn, I thought a cool forum like NeoGAF would have badass MFs who can actually drink considering that most of us are geeks.

*shrug* lightweights. Been on a drinking binge the last week and a half ranging from a few quiet beers (4 pints?) to damn close to a bottle of smirnoff. But that's just this week because the great beer festival is in Malta! YAY!

Favourite week of the year. And tonight is the last chance. So tomorrow, sober!

Also, never had a hangover this week, and I only puke last friday because after shitloads of vodka I mixed it with some cheap shit wine and just couldn't handle it any more. Still, got up next day and I felt fine.

I'm such a manly man.

I struggled with alcohol abuse in the past, due to an undiagnosed anxiety disorder, and it almost took my life at least five times. I'll spare you the stories, but I'll say that having 20 shots over the span of 2-3 hours will kill someone; fortunately, I'm still here.

As far as what was a regular night for me, I'd have three or four Long Island Ice Teas and be pretty well buzzed for the whole night. Or I'd buy a pint of Belvedere and walk around drinking straight from the bottle.

Nowadays, just two Manhattans is be enough for me. I don't like beer.

Edit: Stop drinking shitty vodka people!

Heaps, 6-8 to get tipsy 10-15 get a bit loud anything extra and i become a party animal but i dont become a complete dick or anything, i make everyones time better................... :lol

after very little research i reached the conclusion that such a topic can never really provide any useful answer because of the differences in countries.

For example while america has piss weak beer and comes in like 20cl bottles they have bigger shots of 45ml.

Us macho Europeans usually refer to a pint (50cl) when we say a beer and it's usually 5%+ in alcohol content (and doesn't taste like piss). However we tend to have smaller shot sizes ranging from 25ml to 40ml. That being said it is more commonplace to find stronger spirits in Europe.

Finally, I am from Malta and I've had the great pleasure of visiting quite a few countries in my drinking days (i.e. these days), and it seems that as a general rule we're usually the heaviest drinkers. I have seen that Bulgarians and Czechs are incredibly strong (much more than myself and anyone else I know) when it comes to downing alcohol. UK is pretty weak assed when compared to us and so is Spain.

I am saying this cos we basically have one place with a large concentration of bars and clubs and shitloads of tourists (mostly europeans learning English as a foreign language) all hang out in this area, and very very few can handle what us natives can.

Finally I'd like to say that we don't have a mandatory closing time for bars like the UK but clubs and bars playing loud music are shut down at 4am.

I'll get tipsy with about 4-6 drinks but I can stomach around 20+ before I pass out. Propably even more since that was about a year ago and I've been drinking a bit more since then because I found a couple of drinking buddies.

I've only skimmed the first two pages, but some of the claims I've read seem a little... far-fetched. Being able to chug a fifth of vodka? Save perhaps a couple of four hundred pound Russians, I have trouble believing anyone can do that and not have to hit the sink (or the emergency room) right afterwards.

You guys really should come to scotland

I dunno, i've actually found that i can drink more now (28) then when i was 20. I do drink on a more frequent basis (though not to the point of being drunk) so i think my tolerance to alcohol has increased.

you have a point to the proportion of how often you drink to how much you can handle, but I feel I tend to drink more and stay more abrubt and "with it" in a social event, party, etc...then if I am chilling at a house or something...
for What its worth...I'm almost 27...

I don't know my threshold either. I've only gone over it once in my life... I'm a pussy (can I say that?) when it comes to drinking. I dispise the taste of the alcohol & my stomach turns inside out every time making me wanna throw it up. When I explain it to people, they try mixing it with coca cola which is just a waste of good soda to me (and it kinda goes against my religious beliefs to waste cola :lol )

When I party, I just drink 2-3 cider bottles (.5 litres each, 4.5% alcohol or so). I wouldn't even drink that much if I didn't feel like an outsider :P One might think there's issues with alcohol in the family but no. I just never hanged with those crowds as a teenager so I never learned to like coffee, beer & alcohol in general. It all tastes like shit to me :lol

I used to drink around 60cl~75cl of Vodka on occasion during my first year of uni when we stayed in, which used to get me totally wankered. But now when I go out I normally keep to the limit of 8~ double vodka Redbulls. Or if I am drinking beer 9~11 pints depending on how much I have eaten during the day.

I am deffo going to cut down on my drinking when I finish uni though. :lol

Yeah, those bars don't hand out full strength drinks all night, especially to drunk patrons who couldn't tell if the drink was weak because they "drink so much the liquor, a 'double' doesn't even phase them".

Now, I am by no means someone who ever drinks Alcohol.

I only ever drink wine or whatever on special occasions.

At my cousins wedding a couple of months ago, one of my cousins challenged me to a drinking match. Now, i thought why not, I don't really like weddings, and it will make time go quicker. Another thing, before this, I have never been drunk. Anyhoo, my cousin brings a bottle of home made vodka (wedding is in Poland, Vodka country as far as I know ;x). The Vodka was 70% or something.

So yeah, I start drinking shots of it, not bad.. 5 or 6 shots in, nothing yet. 12 shots in, I'm pissed. I phone up my girlfriend and talk to her mum, start talking about random shit. I managed to get to 20 shots, when my mum saw that I looked completely out of it.
Managed to throw up 5 times, there was a 5 hour period during that day I do not remember at all.

So yeah, never doing that again.

So you do have a mandatory closing time at 4am?! And there is no mandatory closing time for bars and clubs in the UK, there are plenty of bars here that shut at 5, 6, 7am, if you are in a dockside city (Edinburgh or Liverpool for example) you can find bars that don't OPEN until 4 or 5am, and stay open until the afternoon. It is all up to the local licensing authority what times places can be granted licenses until. It is also possible for a venue (dance music club for example) to have an on-trade license till 2am, but an entertainments license until 6am, meaning the bar shuts up shop early but can still sell non-alcoholic energy drinks etc..

Many restaurants in Scotland carry both an on and an off trade license, and certainly there are plenty of places you can roll into at 4am, have a pizza and a beer, then take a bottle of spirits home with you.

There really is no one rule for the UK at all.

As for the UK being rubbish drinkers? Go to Scotland. I have seen highlanders polish off a litre of whisky in like 2 hours, straight, no problems. Whilst I was a kid drinking way too much at uni, I could easily drink half a bottle of gin (a standard UK bottle is 70cl, a large bottle is 1L. Anything bigger than that is generally only carried in specialist stores, or will contain something approximating paint stripper) before going out, and that would be in about 2 hours. Then on a night out i'd probably drink at least the same again in 4 hours.

Just last weekend I drank 3L of 8% organic cider, 1 bottle (75cl) of champagne (probably 12 or 13%), and a 70cl of Absolut and mixer starting at 8 and falling into my tent 12 hours later, and I was relatively ok the next day. It's not superhuman, it just happens sometimes. I've drunk plenty more in my life before. Also i've been in situations and drunk 5 pints and been absolutely off my tits, and other times i've had 5 pints and barely felt anything.

I am 6ft1 and 20stone but i can drink way less than when i was lighter at uni.

Oh and for all the people calling bullshit about drinking bottles of vodka in an hour, the Polish and former soviet states would like to talk to you. Jesus those guys can drink straight spirits.

Yes, anyone who's ever drunk Buckfast knows it has magical properties unlike any other alcoholic beverage in existence.

For anyone who's never experienced the joy of slamming this sickly syrup in their gob, it's like drinking red wine which has had so much sugar put in you can stand a spoon in it, and then added a few grams of amphetamine. It's mentalness in a bottle.

Surprising how little most people here can drink. I think you need years of self-destructive behaviour to really build up a tolerance. Good trick for people who have real trouble drinking small amounts and getting drunk: eat a very fatty food before you start drinking. The fat slows absorption and the cholesterol makes you liver more able to handle the stuff.

As for my drinking, I don't drink as much now. I can probably finish a 26 of rye over a night, but I'd be hammered. There was a time I'd chug a mickey of vodka before going to the bar, since there wasn't opportunity for a big predrink.

My biggest night of drinking was in my last year of high school. A friend and I each drank a bottle of Smirnoff in about an hour to get ready to go to a club. At the club, I drank nine rum and cokes. I then came back at the end of the night and split a bottle of Smirnoff with a buddy. Total alcohol intake: 48 shots at 40% alcohol over about 6 hours.

Some people can drink ridiculous amounts. Most of the male partiers in university crash at about a 26, in my experience, though some can power through. I saw someone chug a 26 once and still be good to go for the bar. Damn impressive.

Um, not exactly, they still remain open and can serve alcohol, they just have to lower the music. Now I'm not saying I experienced it all, but getting a drink after midnight was hard for me from bars and pubs.

Also, don't take it as an offence that you aren't heavy drinkers. I'm just saying that traditionally here people tend to be very very heavy drinkers (atleast the people I hang out with)

Is buzzed the American term for tipsy?
We use both where I'm from, with no rhyme or reason. Black Americans especially have a multitude of phrases for varying degrees of drunkeness.

Graduated college recently so I still have my drinking form, on a good night (goo food, etc) I could pull a 12 pack (or 1 normal bottle of vodka) over the night (7 to like 3).

Do you spend link $90?

Alot more than I used to. I've been drinking alot lately so my tolerance is quite high. I'm also lucky in that only wine and tequila tends to give me hangovers. I can drink vodka all night and be fine the next day.

Not much, 20 cl of vodka over ~5 hours is enough for me.

I partied with a guy a few times who regularly drank 1 L of vodka in that same period of time. He was on the edge of becoming a fullblown alcoholic back then, though.

If I want to get solid drunk but not be fucked the next day, I'll drink 2-3 bourbon/cokes followed by a shot of jaegar and 1-2 beers.

I don't really try and push it anymore. A lot depends on whether I've eaten recently, the alcohol content of the drinks (most of the ale I like is in the 8-9% territory) and how quickly I'm drinking.

I just like the tast of alcholoic beverages. I avoid getting drunk, which isn't hard to do.

Of course these days I'm stuck w/ Labatt Blue de-alcholized pilsner due to the pain meds I'm on. Fucking sucks.

I once drank 0.5 liter of pirtu (edit: spiritus fortis). I don't know the english word for it. It's 90-100% pure alcohol, that's usually used to clean wounds or medical instruments.

At a rock festival 13 years ago, I drank 10 beers, 1.5 liter of 15% homemade wine, and 0.75 liter of 40% Black Death vodka, during one day. :D

i guess we have to clarify first if that means until i am totally shitfaced or i am so drunk that i have to vomit.

since i haven't thrown up in the last one or two years, my personal record is drinking for two days straight without an interruption. while i can't rememeber how much it was in the end, i can remember that me and my friend drank 20 beer within 3 hours, causing him to run around only wearing his unterpants in the middle of the day.

those poor moms with their little children must have been shocked ^^ it was no beautiful sight :lol

i guess usually 8 is a fine number.

I will get buzzed on two to three drinks, hangover on five to six, and drunk on seven+ typically. I'll be sick to my stomach around seven so I tend to slow down around there.

Although my numbers are a tad off since i started drinking late in life.
