How much does a lemon cost in your country?

We grow like 90percent of all our produce here in aus.

Yeah and the quality is so poor here in australia compared to other countries such as japan and many places in south east asia (partly due to more nutrients in the soil content and abundant rain) yet most people do not know any better and pay so much for poor quality and poor variety produce. We need a revolution in agriculture/horticulture here that is based on sustainability flavour and nutrition rather than purely yield and profits.

Fixed.

Who the hell sells lemons based on the quantity? It always based on weight.

BTW i have no idea because we grow our own lemons (which are fantastic).

Pretty much all fruits and vegetables are sold by quantity in Japan. Strawberries, potatoes, oranges, carrots, and lemons.

In China I don't see them too often, but when I do, they usually sell for around or above a dollar US. Saw avocados one time and those were selling for like 10 dollars US for one.

I've been thinking really hard on this and I think I have never paid for a lemon in my life - so I wouldn't know how much they cost here. There's always a bunch of them around. We seem to get fresh lemons from someone, be it the neighbours, family or colleagues at work every other week. Loads of people here have their own gardens where they grow lemons, apples, oranges and stuff.

I'm from Malta by the way.

I buy lemons almost every week. I don't pay much attention to the specific price from week to week, but they are generally about 50¢-70¢ each. Michigan here, we do not grown lemons in this area.

Funny you ask, there were no lemons left yesterday at the grocery store I go to, thought it was strange.

It really is. There are no circumstances, outside of the grocer/lemon industry whereby I can imagine 'How much does a lemon cost in someone else's country' becomes a thought you would have

I assure you, gaf has had loads of extremely weird threads. This is about as weird as the thoughts you get while in the shower.

Do you not think about how much video games cost in other countries?

or do you come from America? where your prices are better than ours :(

I think lemons are pretty reasonably priced right now. Something like 3 for a $1 around these parts.

Limes however are high. Almost a $1 apiece. I don't know if there's a shortage or what but bars are asking if you want a lime wedge now for drinks (Mexican beers for example) that would typically have them.

I had the same experience. I ordered a round of gin and tonics and no limes to be seen in any of the four drinks. When I asked for the limes, the bartender looked annoyed.

Not sure if there is a shortage. I recently paid $1 a lime at the store. Seems steep

Just check out Lemonparty.org for all of the latest lemon prices around the world.
I used to get sqeezed on all my citrus until The Internet showed me Lemonparty.org.

Lemons have gone up, I don't know exactly how the commodities markets work or even if they determine the price of lemons across the globe. A drought in California coupled with the Mexican drug cartel's affecting lime production and distribution:

About 50,000 acres of citrus representing $3 billion in economic activity are vulnerable to inadequate water supply, according to the trade group [California Citrus Mutual].

Michoacan is Mexico's top lime producer and that's who we get most of our limes from. For the past two months, the violence between drug cartels in Michoacan has wreaked havoc on the lemon and lime industry with some cartels, stealing up to $250,000 worth of limes. Which directly affects trade and prompts restaurants to cut back.

I can get lemons for 29 cents in my neighborhood. I think Safeway has em for 50 cents right now tho.

I don't have many claims to fame, but I have what is generally referred to as 'the best lemon tree in the world' right in my backyard. So nothing.

I also happen to be in Melbourne, OP, so happy to share some amazing lemons with you. I have way, way too many to handle.

10 lemons for free with a year round lemon tree. I pick them every few weeks for a recipe or two. I live in Southern California, where my neighbors seem to over water. Otherwise, I'm not really sure what the prices of lemons are in stores.

£399.99, but it'll be £349.99 from June

honestly though, about 3 for £1? We don't buy fresh that often unless we need rind for a recipe - we just have those plastic lemons in the fridge for juice.

Curious.

I've just been to the super market in Melbourne, Australia, and 3 lemons costs $2 (aud)

That's about $1.90 US for 3 lemons.

Given that for the last few months it's usually been 80 cents for a single lemon, this price seems very good to me.

I'm curious as to what others pay for lemons from their super markets?

I'm also reminded of the Australian banana crisis a few years back, a kilo of bananas was fairly commonly seen for around $15+.

During this time I remember not having had a banana for a few months and watching a star craft tournament in south america... banananas piled high on a table.

Less than a dollar a piece. I buy fucking boatloads of those things. Still got great teeth though I am not sure how hahahaha.

Free, for me :) I just walk into my back yard and pick one off my tree.

The lemons in my back yard are incredibly tasty. Best lemonade lemons ever.
