How to erase all data from a GBA game?

Ok, GAF. I need to wipe out all save files from a GBA game, and that game is Sword of Mana. It lacks an option to delete saved data, but I have a vague memory of a combination of buttons you can hold at the startup of a game to erase all saved data.

Does anyone know this combination of buttons, or an alternate way? Crushing it with an hammer isn't an option, even if the game does deserve it.

It varies from game to game, and not all games have this feature.

It's also sometimes available as a selection in the options screen.

Back in the days of the SNES, if I wanted to wipe a cart I'd just flick it on and off really fast for five minutes. That usually did the trick.

Yeah, you can't actually delete files from that particular game. Save over them, but not delete; sorry!

Skygor_II on the GameSnot forums offers this sound advice.

Done, but it didn't help. :/ I even pulled it out while saving.

I see. Oh well, thanks anyway.

On that note, I'd love to know how I can delete all data from Advance Wars & Advance Wars: Black Hole Rising.

As caveman as it sounds, you could always resort to using a large magnet as a last ditch effort if none of the above tricks work.

For Advance Wars 1, press and hold the L button, right on the D-pad, and Select while switching the power on. You can let go of the buttons when you see the "Delete Save Data?" screen. Not sure about Advance Wars 2.
