Hi Gaf,

The PS3 at my parent's place got YLOD. I am trying to get the xbox 360 to work with Netflix I am having no luck.

I haven't used the xbox 360 in a couple of years. Downloaded the most recent update, created a new xbox live account, downloaded the netflix app.

It just goes to a black screen and that's it. I can press the xbox button to shut off and that's about it.

What the fuck is going on?

I want to get this to work so my parents can watch Netflix.

Try restarting it, a black screen shouldn't be appearing.

If that doesn't work, do you have a standalone blu ray player?

A bunch of them have Netflix apps already.

Try this. After that, delete and download the netflix app again.

Delete everything Netflix related off the HDD. Then redownload. There might be an older Netflix save interfering.

I've had like 5 or 6 calls in to my shop today about people getting black screens loading Xbox 360 apps. My understanding is it's an Xbox Live problem...if you disconnect from the 'net, and it's an offline game, it loads fine. In Netflix's case, you'll probably just have to wait it out.

It didn't work.

I click on netflix after cleared system cache and it just gives me a black screen.

If I press the xbox button I can press stuff but if I want to return to xbox home it freezes.

This. I had this problem. It was a corrupted download. I deleted Netflix completely from the hard drive and then re-installed.

No specific Netflix complaints, but game discs that worked perfectly fine before today (and still have the problem on multiple consoles, but only when online!), and a multitude of dashboard apps just giving black screens.

I suspect it's trying to check for software updates and hanging at that point because of how Xbox Live is (or isn't) responding.

I quickly checked reddit and it seems some people have same problem I have with other apps etc. hopefully it gets resolved.

Was going to post about a similar problem when I found this on Xbox Live Status page:

It’s come to our attention that some of you are seeing a black screen when attempting to launch games and applications. Hang in there, Xbox members, we’re on it! Thanks for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. We’ll update you again as soon as we have more information.

So it's not just the apps. I, for one, can't even launch a game. Not from the disc, not from the HDD. The console just does not launch anything and goes to a black screen every time I try to do anything.

After disconnecting from the network and doing a reboot, it seems some games launch just fine, however.

Back when Netflix first started on Xbox360, you needed to sync both the Netflix on 360 & Netflix on PC at the same time to get it to work.

I guess they changed this since?
