How to pronounce Ubisoft: Youbisoft or Oobisoft?

You-be-soft. It frustrates me when people say it the other way.

yep. after moving to America, people convinced me that oohbesoft was right and I started saying it that way for a while, until I heard that the name was derived from the word ubiquitous.

it's youbesoft.

Boobiesoft - 'cos I roll immature like that.

I've always said you-b-soft. Never thought about it, probably never will again.

Fuck you guys. #teamsoftU
If they wanted to pronounce it youbisoft they would've spelled it that way. They don't make the rules on how to pronounce the word. I've always pronounced it with a soft U and that's the only way to pronounce it.

It's funny. There are different origin stories of the name from the people who founded the company. There's a video where Yves says that it comes from ubiquity, and that's how it should be pronounced. I can't remember which video though.

I always said oo-bisoft cause that's phonetically correct. Turns out it's not the actual pronunciation, though.

"A Ubisoft Production" - at the start of their games.

not "An Ubisoft Production"

That's when I realised I'd been saying it wrong for years. You-be-soft from that day forward.

I guess if you wanted to see it phonetically then would be 'you-be' but you are basically just pronouncing the U as you you any other word same as ubiquitous

I've been calling them Oobisoft for years, and that's how it shall remain, all evidence to the contrary.

Phew glad this isn't going to be another gif issue (although that was fun because justice prevailed :P)

"you-bee-soft" here too

I'm aware of that, still wikipedia and probably history will retain the Union thing, since they come from that region.
I wouldn't be surprised if, knowing Ancel, it was told as a joke or even if it was really the true reason (he's capable of both), but I guess we'll never know and that's how most "legends" like these are created to stay.

-If it comes from ubiquitous, the english word, then it's "you".
-If it comes from the french word "ubiquité", that could be translated as ubiquitous in english, then it's a french , and there is no english equivalent for this phoneme.
-Since the company is french, I would bet on the french .

in french can be found in words such as "tu" (you) and "rue" (street). It's the same as the german "u" in "über".

I've been wondering this for awhile. In Japan they pronounce it like U.B.I. Soft.

So French-GAF, is it actually Oobisoft?

It think you people have us all on ignore because it's been answered at least a half a dozen times including first post.

It's neither youbisoft nor oobisoft. This sound doesn't exist in English and is proably the hardest vowel to pronounce for native English speakers so just stop already, I've been trying to have my wife say it properly for 6 years to no avail.

It's pronounced exactly like "ü" in German.
