How to stop swearing so much?

Start swearing like Ned Flanders from the Simpsons. You can now swear as much as you like and nobody will be offended by it.

Two birds killed with one stone

Pretend there are little kids within hearing distance that will pick up your swearing.

Will someone think of the children?!

There's no such thing as "swearing", they're just words, which is proven when you try to use so-called substitutes. When you say "fudge" in frustration when there is no fudge present, you've now made a swear word.

Words aren't bad, ideas are bad. Words aren't bad, context is bad.

I've picked up a habit of swearing too much the past years.

I swear so much I started swearing in other languages. My native tongue is Croatian but I swear in English, Russian and Italian IRL lol.

How do I reduce it? Word substitutions? Bite my tongue?

Try mindful breathing. Brings you back to the moment and more control of your habits

I have a friend who I play Pokemon Go with, and his swearing is embarrassing as hell. We show up to 10-20 player raids where families bring their kids and he drops F-bombs with no hesitation at all......over the smallest of matters. "Articuno jumped out of the fucking pokeball, what a piece of shit!"

It's weird, since he's actually a waiter/bartender so he is definitely able to control his language in that context.......but when he is outside of work he gives zero fucks.

Become friends with people who hate swearing.

Seriously, a girl I hang out with is like that. It made me watch my tongue more and I swear less now.

I managed to swear a bit less just by finding substitute words that sound cute/funny.

With "heck" going around with memes these days, i decided to replace "fuck" with it and it actually feels nice
"I want to heck you like an animal"

IÂ’m the only person I know who doesnÂ’t liberally swear. It comes off pretty crass.

People who swear regularly mainly just piss me off because they never know how to stop when they are in the mall or at Disney with me and thereÂ’s little kids right behind them

But I donÂ’t care much when itÂ’s just around me, and IÂ’ll drop one if itÂ’s right. That way they at least still have meaning when I use them

When you curse you just correct yourself on the spot and replace the swear word with a non swear word. Over the course of months you'll be able to control it.

I majored in profanity in Jr High and High School and have enjoyed many years saying the most vile things with out restraint. It wasn't until I got a job in education that I had to learn to curb it. It did take months before I could control it.

Sometimes when talking, you can open the tap and let whatever fly. And sometimes you should be able to filter it in various degrees including a setting that just scrubs out swear words. It requires a small delay before speaking as the words must detour through the brain on their way from the gut.

Shit, I don't see a problem, unless you do it in public.

Fuck, I swear when I lose games, while fucking driving, while watching TV. And I swear in Spanish and English. Especially in Spanish.

If I knew more languages, I would probably add those insults to my vocabulary.

I have a friend like this its like there's no conception of mindfulness whatsoever. Unaware of context and his surroundings

My advice is to just chill out and think before talking for a bit

I hardly ever swear. I wasn't even raised that way, because my parents do swear when in an informal setting, especially my mom, lol.
The only thing that you might hear me say if I am upset is "ScheiĂźe". (German is my native language by the way . ;)) ScheiĂźe is not really considered a swear word in German though, I guess. If the weather is terrible no one will flinch if you call it "ScheiĂźwetter" Or if someone tells you of the bad luck they had and you respond sympathetically: "Oh, das ist natĂĽrlich ScheiĂźe... :("

I swear quite often (I blame my time on the Navy where swearing is just another word), but I can still avoid doing it when it is inappropriate to swear. Just takes some self control.

The people I've met that can't stop swearing think it makes them edgy or cool, when in reality, they sound corny and try-hard. Hopefully you are not the same, OP.

Swearing just reminds me of kids that just discovered swearing and keep doing it as social acceptance among their friends.
