How was your online experience with Bloodborne ?

Mediocre. Bloodstains rarely worked, and I only ever got invaded once. I managed to get summoned a few times and that worked fine, but I might have been over-leveled as it took a while to happen.

Messages work fine but I find that I prefer the very obvious text on the ground in Dark Souls. I missed a few important messages because the grey blotch on the ground isn't always noticeable.

If there's one good thing about dark souls 2 it's that the online worked great. I always had tons of trouble in DaS1 especially on PC, and I had to play demon's souls offline because of other reasons.

I've been able to summon a couple of times, and have been invaded in the Nightmare Frontier, but I have also had quite a few failed summon attempts too, which has cost me a few insight.

It has kind of been a blessing in disguise as I've managed to beat the bosses I was trying to summon help for on my own, which is infinitely more satisfying.

It does seem like From have gone backwards with the introduction of the bell in place of summoning signs. I've had much more joy summoning in the Souls games, although they weren't perfect either.

I didn't even know you could change from local or world. Is that a setting in the game? Which one is default?

Local is default I think. You can change it in the network setting in the game's menu.

Mentioning this again for people who can't get shit to work:

Have you put your PS4 into a DMZ or opened the required ports in your router? Your PS4 has to show a NAT type of 2 or 1 for the best connection.

Port number required to connect to PSN:
■TCP: 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480, 5223, 8080
■UDP: 3478, 3479, 3658

Port number required to connect Bloodborne’s online servers:
■TCP: 18671, 20443
■UDP:9305, 9306

I have my PS4 in a DMZ and never got connection errors or anything. Very quick summons too. Can find someone or be found by someone almost everywhere.

Terrible, huge step back from dark souls 2 where you could usually instantly find someone to invade. Load times plus awful matchmaking ruins what could otherwise be great pvp currently. Hopefully the upcoming pactch will help

Awful. Was having trouble with Father G, used 6 insight on the damn reckoning bell. Not once did I have anyone join my game to assist. 2 times i had immediate disconnects from the network and was promted to restart. Huge disapointment.

I was able to summon friends reliably and got invaded quite a few times in the late game, but keep in mind that it takes a long time to sort of find the PvP stuff in this game.

Not as easy as Dark Souls 2 but still about as good (if not better) as the original Dark Souls, where you could easily go 10 or 15 minutes trying to summon friends and not seeing their sign because you were put in a different "lobby" or whatever.

Mine has worked great! If you are trying to match up with a friend make sure to ring the small bell first it goes soooo much faster. Also if it is taking a while we usually change the password and then we get matched. It can take a while sometimes but hopefully the new patch will help.

Very disappointing. The poor mp system is the only thing stopping Bloodborne from being my favorite game of all time.
The bell system is ok (when it actually works) for story mode, but like Destiny, you should be able to easily set up a 3 man fire team for the chalice dungeons. It's also annoying that I couldn't help friends struggling on a boss because my level was too high.

Mines was fine. Played through half the game with a friend helping him beat bosses. Then on my NG+ I was able got find help on boss fights after two mins of searching each time

i think the co ops ok had two people summoned to help with blood starved beast

though a little laggy not too bad overall (only a little into the game though)

Have the same problem with every multiplayer game ever and so do 90% of the people i played destiny with but no one can seem to explain what the fuck this means
Getting to the point where ps4 and xbone should both have software to do it

i did manage to get my ps4 to NAT 2 but have no idea what the fuck i did and cant believe i didnt break something

the only thing that really works are the user messages. 90% bloodstains don't do anything. ive only tried to join a game once and it took quite some time to connect but was stable when it did.

You need to check your modem/router configuration and look for its DMZ settings (stands for Demilitarized Zone). By putting something in a DMZ you will open all ports for the device. No firewall in between your console and the internet.

Mine was alright.

Public co-op I've helped some people out and had some people come into my game. A couple of times no matches were found when I rang the bell looking for help but, other than that just random joining seemed fine.

Friends stuff...we use the password and it works but, sometimes it takes up to 5 minutes to find each other. The system in Demon's Souls was far superior IMO.

The chalice dungeon co-op is useless. You can only summon someone who has already beat the same levels you have in your specific instance. Beyond that they still get removed after you beat the boss. It's not a big deal insight wise but, it sucks because you have to do the re-matching thing again for every level.

PvP has been good actually. I've invaded a couple times almost immediately and everyone who has invaded me was not an idiot and we had fair, enjoyable fights. I like the PvP system much more than previous iterations. It's basically off until you ask for it to be on, except for a couple of areas.

First time I got invaded in what was clearly a PvP area it was with 2 people and I thought "finally!". Took down one and couldn't take out the other. As I ran back to collect my souls, the surviving invader came back...down the same path...opened with the same move...then I realized these were NPCs :(

I eventually did get invaded for real later on and that's when I found out you get a message and you also see the player's name above the health bar.

Apart from PvP I've also co-op'ed, helping people fight bosses I just beat. I've only been summoned a few times.

Pretty bad. Tried helping friends with co-op, didn't work often. Tried getting summoned, took forever in most cases. Then I went and played Dark Souls 2 and was amazed that I was getting summone the instant I put down my summoning sign. Granted, almost all the souls games(except DS 2) had multiplayer issues right off the bat. You'd think by now they'd have a system that works day 1.

Beat virtually the entire game in co-op, once we got it down (ring the Small Resonance first, be near the latern, same password etc.) we rarely had troubles. Was far from perfect but it was awesome!

PVP on the other hand, had some cool moments but 20ish blood vials a person made them drag on sometimes, with invaders running to the cpu enemies just waiting - did have some fun 2 vs 1 scenarios though!

Took forever to get coop working for me. I found by having a more complex password the time it takes to match is reduced.

Someone will almost always invade in the game as soon as my coop friend got in. I pretended to be afk once and had my coop friend hide behind a corridor, then the invader came and tried to backstab me which got him into a very terrible position. It was hilarious and it was a quick swift death for the invader.

I don't use it because it doesn't work. I had one good run with a friend for an hour, but then gave up on it. It's too much trouble to get it to actually work.

Played through every area that was co-op enabled with a friend, beating it for each of us. We died a fair share too. Fought a couple invaders, messages work fine as usual. Phantoms were bugged for the first day or two of release I think but are fine now.

i sat in front of the 2nd boss door for nearly 30 minutes and no one came. I have a feeling this will basically be just a single player game, no invasions, no one summons me and no one gets summoned. they shouldve just done it the way it works in demon's souls. why fix whats not broken?

1 Invasion in about 100-120 hours
1 succesfull co-op invite

tried about 3-4 times to invade someone with no luck so i just decided to no try anymore

I tried summoning for help at one of the bosses, but I kept getting error messages that said the summoning failed and each time I would lose a point of insight even though no one came into my game. After losing 5 insight for nothing I just gave up trying to summon. I haven't been invaded yet nor have I tried to invade. The summon sign system was much better imo.

Maybe your level was too high or too low to find someone. Or there wasn't anyone suitable to your level in your region if you have set your network to local.
Or your router/modem isn't properly configured.

I have a feeling that the majority of problems here are on the user side, since everything works just fine for me (apart from bloodstains not working occasionally which must be fixed on From's end).

Kinda terrible, to be honest.

I never summoned but when I got summoned by others it took 10-15 minutes between instances and I had to waste resources on helping them succeed since nothing respawns.

I got invaded twice. Tried to invade several times in both Nightmares and never found anyone.

Covenants are there in name only - they basically exist to give you a quest reward and then swiftly forgotten about.

Amazing game, worst online in the series.

shit.
dark souls 2 scholar of the first sin's online is a gift from god compared to bb's.

man bloodborn was so disapointing in a lot of aspects... :/

hahahah good one

I haven't tried to connect with anyone specifically, but I've had no problems connecting to random people after setting my connection to worldwide. Helped half a dozen people beat BSB and closer to a dozen to beat DbP. Also summoned help for the SoY incredibly quickly. So no complaints so far, though that might change when I try to coop some chalice dungeons

Thanks for your contribution.

my contribution was over your quote
online is 100% flawless in DS2 on the same platform. Takes seconds to join any game, all bloodstains are working 100% of the time, invasion is flawless, etc etc. what more do you want ? Clearly not a "user side" problem.

every online aspect of BB is a complete mess.
along with the very limited content and half-implemented features (beasthood, wtf) Im guessing FROM had to rush that one out, which is a shame.

I was solely speaking of the technical sides of things, not of specific ingame content or features and what-not.

Thanks again.

This is the truth.

We were talking past each other.

I have mine set to DMZ and NAT type 2 and still have problems. It definitely helps, but it seems like after a few summoning/invading sessions it just stops working until I exit the game or switch the region a few times. I've even been kicked from the game trying to invade, like the matchmaking just gave up and I apparently lost connection to the Bloodborne server.

Non-existent. I was never invaded once in two complete playthroughs and I don't do co-op.

You can't get invaded if you never do co-op. Getting invaded requires to call for help first.

That's strange. I did a dozen co-op sessions in a row to help people out at C

. The only thing I can really complain about is the bad performance sometimes when being summoned by another player.

It was fine for me. Getting summoned to help someone else never takes more than 30 seconds, and my friends and I have all been able to connect just fine. I've been invaded at least once every time I go into a nightmare area as well. Guess I'm just lucky.

I'd like to give a huge shoutout to the people who left a note at the EXACT spot to move forward to reach the
Abandoned Old Workshop
. Y'all the real MVP.
As far as notes go, they've been very helpful.

What about the people who leave notes right where an item is on edge of a cliff so you can't pick it up without inching forward for 5 min.?

I've been summoned to fight Vicar Amelia and BSB, but I have waited for too long in some cases, which is actually even worse if I try to invade others.

Bloodstains don't work properly most of the time either.

In general my experience has been quite bad. I haven't had to wait that long to be able to use the online features of DSII despite all the complains about Soul Memory, while in Bloodborne everything seems to be more problematic.

My online experience was....nearly non-existant. I was only invaded 2 times in the entire first playthrough, both in
Nightmare of Mensis
because it auto-enables invasions as soon as you enter the zone. That's how it should have been everywhere, IMO. I Co-op'd a lot of people through a few bosses on NG+, just for fun since I love jolly Co-op, but nobody ever summoned me near the entrances of levels, I always just had to hang by the boss doors which was kinda a bummer. In the Souls games I loved blazing through the levels and helping people find secrets. Seems like less of a market for that sort of thing here.

The Online component and lack of build variety were honestly my only 2 complaints with Bloodborne. Everything else was absolutely top notch.

Theres a clear problem with whatever servers From is using for BB.

When you first start the game you can be invaded pretty much instantly in mergos middle. After that invasions and being invaded takes forever. Its almost as if the game loses its connection to the servers and doesn't let the player know, finally reconnecting them 5-10 minutes later at which point they'll start getting fairly consistent pvp action again. Or perhaps the game has a unnecessarily long invasion cool down. Weirdest thing about it is that completely closing the app and reopening causes the invasions to come faster.

As mentioned already forwarding the correct ports seems to help a small bit in connecting, but bugs like this still persist.

I do alot of invading at mergos middle but the fact that this is the only spot to reliably get any is very disappointing. I feel the bell maiden mechanic has severly gimped random invasions, and its effect is only compounded by the fact that are only 2 very late game areas they can happen in. I do realize it isnt a souls game and I shouldnt expect invasions to be a big part of the game, but the way theyve gone about it is still very disappointing. There should be at least 4 or 5 areas where Maidens naturally spawn imo.

Pvp is the most fun for me in the whole series due to the fast speed. Fighting 2v1 or 3v1 id extremely exhilarating and not near impossible like the other games. 20 Vials and 30% health reduction is no big deal if you know how to bait parries and time the heal parry, which isnt all that difficult after a bit of practice. Also the regain mechanic in pvp really ups the tension when health/vials get low.

Co-op seems to work near flawlessly for me, at least when looking to help another. Cant speak on beckoning.

Tldr: fix the matchmaking process and add bell maidens to a few more areas. When it works consistently its great.
