How would you make Demon's/Dark Souls better?

Improve checkpoint placement. I don't want more, I just don't want to take an elevator up or down when trying to beat a boss. Anor Londo is shit for that.

There's another bonfire just after the 2 archers that's closer to O&S (you can probably get to the boss room in 30 seconds).

Balance the weapons and armors making everything viable and thus improving the pvp aspect.

I haven't played dark souls in a long time so idk if it's still super imbalanced tbh.

Same game, kawaii aesthetics.

Don't make sequels!!!!!
Make a new spiritual successor every time. Although I love the idea of Dark Souls II I'm kinda worried it's gonna loose a lot of its personality and not be as good. And the accessible comment I just don't get. How is this game not accessible? Why? Because its not Skyrim with a mini map, is that the accessibility waiting for it? Maybe work on the frame rate, maybe work on the game mechanics, but to change it all to make it accessible that you would ruin it. That would suck.

I would just have made some other game Something Souls and change some major dynamic, while still keeping it the same.

Demon's Souls is damn near perfect in my opinion.

How would I fix Dark Souls?
I'd finish the game. I would scrap all areas post Anor Londo and come up with new concepts.

I'd make the same game. With better level design.

It's essentially a spiritual successor anyways. It's using the name due to popularity, the only reason Dark Souls wasn't Demon's Souls 2 is because of the rights Sony had. King's Field games aren't really connected, and they go up to 4. They said Dark Souls 2 will be all new world and stuff.

Better netcode.
Easier to co-op with friends.
Better framerate.
Less dungeons that feel like horrible slogs (Blighttown, Izalith, Tomb, etc)

There is nothing wrong with Blighttown as a dungeon design wise. It's the framerate that needs to be fixed. I think it's pretty awesome how you can see the whole place from high up and stuff. There are lots of hidden items all over the place too.

Unreal Engine 3

If that get's it running at a more stable framerate, then so be it.

I haven't gotten too far into Dark Souls, but Demon's Souls is one of those games for which I can't really think of any improvements. It's one of the most "complete" games I've seen this gen and its only real flaw in my eyes are its bad optimization and somewhat ugly graphics engine (despite superb art direction).

Class Bonuses: If you play like your class, you get nice bonuses, like for a wizard, you'd get more powerful spells the farther apart int and str are. Or a Barbarian gets a big defense bonus when not wearing armor.

Remove caps on stat bonuses with weapons.

Make stats have more of an effect on gameplay. Higher strength makes swing speed of heavy weapons faster. Higher dex adds combo moves with light weapons. Spell's range and area increase as int increases.

Better AI, clear up the menu so it's easily understood what each stat does, don't let interns design the second half of the game, better performance would make them amazing. Also, no cheap shots at all. Tough but fair describe the games for the most part but stuff like the Capra demon door and the Bed of Chaos are lame ways to die that don't feel like the player's fault.

Oh, and don't remove access to console level features like party mode because that shit is horrible.

Improve hit detection so that the game is more consistent with its own rules. I hate being screwed over by random attacks going through physical objects.

More random, less pattern based non boss enemies.

More punishment for blocking and parrying, perhaps add a grab or guard break function?

Do not make it more accessible / understandable (in terms of story).

I'd like them to go back to the hub world structure of Demon's Souls. Dark's "open" world is a chore to traverse.

Also actually explain all of the different systems in the game, like tendancy/covenants.

Less grinding (had this problem in Dark but not in Demon's). Looking back, soul farming exploits actually made the game bearable.

Just give us a way to do co-op with our friends... I understand why the system is like it is, in order to facilitate co-op with strangers, but the amount of hoops you have to jump through to play with friends (organizing where to summon, staying within a few levels of each other) is insane. I mean, half of us are doing this any way, so just give us what we want.

Fuck Lost Izaleth and Bed of Chaos.

Give the babbies their precious easy mode to keep them playing. Say after 5 attempts, offer a yes/no choice to bork the boss, but have a big penalty attached like no loot.

Non-shitty framerate (shouldn't be an issue on PC).

DO NOT USE GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE!

I don't think you've given this any thought. How is using savestates not cheating?

Because there is no thought to be given. Its not cheating, unless you have your own definition of cheating or something.

I didn't want to do a level over if I lose to a boss so I just save right before one and just keep reloading until I learned how to beat the boss...on my own.

The game. Is using a Gameshark not cheating?

I didn't use a Gameshark. I didn't even know Gameshark stuff exist anymore.

The game is not a person.

What is the purpose of a single player game?

It's to beat the challenge laid down by the game developers (or, I guess for some games, to experience the story or whatever). If you use savestates, you're making up your own rules, and you're no longer playing the game that the developers designed. I guess there's nothing wrong with doing whatever you want to the game if you own it, but Esura can't actually say he beat Mega Man 2.

I couldn't care less about what the developer intended. I play games how I want to. And I did beat Mega Man 2 without the assistance of anything but a savestate.

Do away with the weak bonfire checkpoint system and return to the glory of Demon's Souls where you had to fight through the whole level to the boss and only by defeating him did you gain a checkpoint. A true man's game.

I don't know if it's been mentioned but, it should stop trying to be a platformer at times. There were items in the Great Hollow that I would look like and think "How the FUCK am I supposed to get that?" Turns out I had to jump and lose half of my health or more. The sprinting jump was awkward too.

I'd like better menus. Scrolling through your shit sucks.

I'd also like a no-HUD option, or at least the ability to get rid of the four squares showing what you have "equipped". Maybe only flash them for a second when you switch.

I'd like to be able to invite my friend for co-op.

I don't know if it needs better coding or better servers, but sometimes online is janky. I've been backstabbed by a guy in FRONT of me.

I'd like there to be enemies that roam, that can find you, maybe? Enemies all seem to stick to their spawn point, standing there forever, until you aggro them. Let 'em roam. And maybe a few special ones that can be anywhere, constantly traversing the levels, need to run away from early on. Oh yeah.

And that idea of weapons & armor changing appearance as they level up is awesome.

But yeah, fix the damn menu system. Feels like every damn time I want to select something I end up scrolling past it and then backing up to select it.

Oh come on. How does this series have grinding? Stats don't mean shit. Just upgrade equipment and your good. Souls from running through a zone once and the boss are more then enough. Honest I find myself holding my level back just so I don't join a new level bracket (since higher level invaders usually have more tricks).

I would like to see a better character building system. Something were if you actually want to excel in one area you have to make sacrifices to another. I know that's how the current system is suppose to work, but it really doesn't thanks to insane scaling on weapons from int/faith. It's really easy to build a character that's good at almost everything.

There needs to be MUCH higher stat requirements for equipment (35+).
Magic and elemental weapons should be situation rather then just flat out better for the vast majority of the game.

I'm sure FROM didn't intend anybody to just sprint past most of the enemies and beat Dark Souls in less than hour. I'm fairly sure that wasn't their intended way for a person to play the game. I don't think that that person is a cheater. There are other arguments as to why using a save state could be cheating, but you seem to have the right attitude, in my mind. Play it your way.

IIRC in the art book they released the Black Kights were actually supposed to roam the world and you would encounter them randomly.

How is it not cheating? What kind of definition of cheating do you have? Using savestates is literally exactly the same as using a cheat device, like a Gameshark, to alter the game so you can make it easier (or unlosable).

Part of the challenge of each boss encounter is that if you fail, you have to repeat the level. That is part of the stakes. What you're doing is arbitrarily deciding that that isn't a valid form of challenge, and then modifying the game so you can circumvent it (which is actually kind of relevant to the discussion about the Souls series here, I guess). It is literally exactly like loading up a Game Genie and using an infinite lives code.

I couldn't care less about what the developer intended. I play games how I want to. And I did beat Mega Man 2 without the assistance of anything but a savestate.

So there is no such thing as cheating? If someone uses an infinite life code, can they really say they beat Mega Man 2? If you don't have a problem with cheating, it's fine to admit that you weren't able to beat the game and that you had to cheat to do so, but don't be dishonest about it.

The people who did those speedruns didn't use outside programs to modify the game, though.
