How Yahoo Derailed Tumblr

I don't use Tumblr for porn, but it sure loves to suggest it to me. Why would I want to see hentai if I only follow work safe anime blogs?

Why did Yahoo even buy Tumblr for anyway? Its like, when Amazon or google buys something, there’s usually a pretty clear strategy in place. The Tumblr acquisition was just so random. Were they hoping to snatch up the next Facebook of Twitter? Hell most sites don’t even list Tumblr as a share option!

According to some anime=porn. Yeah, I don't get it either.

Probably because for a long time the size limit was 512kb, then it was 1mb, and in the past 6 months or so they made it 2mb.

They have a 100MB per day upload limit for videos from what I've seen. For much of the type of content tumblr creates/reposts endlessly (ie: TV/film clips) it's a better format but since most already save everything as a GIF it's a cycle that can't easy be broken.

The tumblr staff were already great at derailing themselves before the yahoo buyout, but that PDF comment is next level

gifs are ingrained into the site culture because until like 1-2 years ago the sites video player barely functioned
edit- actually you know what it mightve been a bit longer than that now. where does the time go.

Imagine opening a PDF file which quickly flashes a URL to Tumblr, which then opens up your default web browser to a Tumblr feed

Here's my review of Yahoo's corporate strategy:

Everything this company touches has turned to absolute shit. WHo the knows how Yahoo Sports and Finance are still decent under that umbrella.

Tumblr has fallen out of the top 100 list of free iOS apps in the U.S. as of the beginning of June, according to data from AppAnnie, an app analytics service. Research firm eMarketer projects that “the gap [in users] between Tumblr and its competitors will widen through 2020.”

As a daily consumer of tumblr and user of the app, this has nothing to do with yahoo and everything to do with the App being complete shit that barely works sometimes.

On one occasion, an executive overseeing Karp and his division perplexed employees by saying he thought Tumblr had the potential to "create the next generation PDF," according to multiple sources.

did this person have a head injury and just blurt out a bunch of random words?

Adobe Reader.

you did good, Dennis.

was just thinking the other day that I haven't opened tumblr in months. It used to be a site I would visit many times daily. Mostly stopped using is because they stopped innovating, and I was getting better content on different platforms.

I draw silly little comics. So according to this topic I should create a Tumblr if I want to try and get some more exposure?

They definitely did not.
Yup but half of the community in there are hazardous and incredibly stupid to the porn community. So if a person doesn't like what a artist is drawing they do a false report and since the report is automated the artist's tumblr can be taken down. A way for an artist to connect, express and communicate with fans, gone because of a retarded asshat.
It's frustrating seeing that happen.

Not to mention it can directly impact the artist's livelihood as well. If they produce art for a living or for extra income, the loss of that audience reduces traffic to the artist's website, stores, patreon pages, etc... I've seen it happen. Always fretting it will happen to me.

Honestly, if you want exposure, you should basically be on every major social media platform.

This is basically the answer.

As long people keep using it for porn I'm a happy dog. Didn't think I would like tumblr but man does it provide a lot of interesting pictures and videos I did find through other means ... yahoo don't fuck this up.

What use does tumblr have actually besides porn. People use Instagram as a picture blog and imgur for picture links. They use Twitter for blog like communication

It sounds like mismanagement on Yahoo's part, but I haven't actually seen it affect Tumblr itself. The site seems just fine, I haven't seen anything that would correlate with the app version being less popular.

Marissa is cashing in no matter what. She will probably write a book too. Meg White is more my type of a CEO, hardballs and ice cold as steel.

I guess because many artists are scouted through their Tumblr portfolio, you can make a portfolio in PDF, therefore Tumblr is the next generation PDF????

???? Hell if I know.
